The Randy Lerner thread

Wasn't our lowest gate about 12k v Southampton in the 80s ?

I remember being stood on the holte and it was incredibly sparse

I think if we were a top 4 side playing good football and winning stuff, ground permitting we'd get about 55k per week

I'm not saying that we aren't a big club with the potential to average 40k+ again, just that we never have been a '60k to 70k every game' club.

You're right with your stats, Brommy. I've corrected my previous post on this.

So the council have said 50k limit? Or is that guess work

Current capacity is 42,500

I've seen it stated on several occasions that planning permission was given to provide a 50k total capacity.

I've not seen the actual documents, but if anyonne has I'd be interested to hear if they allow for any variation. From the press reports I've read it's 50k max.

I'm not 100% certain about the North Stand approval, but a dim memory says that permission is there. Don't take that as gospel, though.

Whatever actual modifications are done a.f.a.i.k. the max capacity is still 50k seated (according to what I recall).

I'm interested in the north stand redevelopment and if it goes ahead or not because this will give a real indication as to Lerners plans and longevity as owner of the villa

It could just as easily be indicative as to how long the UK ecomony remains flat or in recession.

I've had it put to me offline that the North Stand plans have not been submitted as yet.

This comes as a bit of a surprise to me as there was quite a bit of activity on this when I was there in 2009.

True, but you could equally argue it's a great time to build as construction prices are about 20% down on 3 or 4 years ago

I don't know if that is true, or whether it would also apply to the specialist construction of football stadia, however even if Randy fancied staying here for the long term, given our 30k average history, it would be a big gamble to expand to 50k at the moment.

It is true, prices have fallen at least 20%

Structural steel- a big component in a new stand has halved in price from about 3 Years back, labour rates are down and groundworkers are fighting for work

The arse has fallen out if the industry particularly outside of London

Well, if Lerner has ditched the plan to rebuild the North Stand that is a massive statement IMO

It could just as easily be indicative as to how long the UK ecomony remains flat or in recession.

...and the circle is complete! :D

Brommy, I see what you're saying but premier league football does not follow the way the world financial meltdown is unravelling

It has it's own climate, and it is generating more cash than ever

Now I'm definitely not sure of that!

I know a few fans who are now financially restricted to an extent that watching football is a luxury that they have stopped or reduced.
