I have been in my current job for 8 or 9 years now and feel its time for a change, I have looked within the company but there is fook all around at the moment.

Has any one every used them online job sites or uploaded their CV to one and what sort of responses did you get? would it be worth me doing it or are they a waste of time?

just saying as I am pretty much at a loss as how to get out because this was my first permanent job (before that I was just temping) and I only found this through an agency and I wouldnt wanto go back to that whilst I am in a (kind of) secure job.

cheers in advance

What sort of work are you looking for?

I work in IT (or rather, I did until I got laid off a few months ago) so I use them on a daily basis.

You generally won't get any joy from just posting your CV online - you'd need to be pro-active about actually applying for jobs through the job site. At the moment I'm applying for about 20 jobs a week and would typically expect to get one or two calls from that, then only a small fraction of that will actually go anywhere. It's different for every industry though so I can only say from an IT perspective.

As an employer those are the places that serve up the most irrelevant candidates. I suggest you find target companies and repeatedly search their jobs pages, applying only for jobs you are qualified for or have clear experience of and put in a quality covering letter plus re-work the CV each time to fit the job you're applying for. A lot of people hawk round the same CV to hundreds of jobs and you can pretty much gaurantee they go in the bin every time.

at the moment I work in motor insurance so it would probably be something along them lines, only thing is that there is literally no where else for me to go at the place I am at at the moment and the only way to push on and earn some more money is going to be by moving on from there

fook me I have just moved my leg and I have got the worst case of pins and needles in my foot that I have ever had

That was me stabbing a voodoo doll in the leg when you mentioned you work in the motor insurance industry. Legalised robbery.

That has to be the fastest alienation of a message board ever.

Had you said you were a Jehovah's Witness Child Raping Traffic Warden you may have got a better reaction.

I am currently seeking a new challenge and something closer to Brum or Lichfield rather than Redditch and find Jobsite and Totaljobs quite good but I specialise in Health and Safety so finding vacancies and getting calls are easier. I find the job centre plus website quite good too.
