  1. Completely agree - You can't get an atmosphere going when your spread along the length of the pitch, It was the same last year aswel. My pals a Newcastle fan and he said they put them behind one of the goals so why we get the Steve Bull stand is ridiculous - Fookin thick Yam Yams..
  2. Delighted for Heskey today defiantly born again in the last 2 games. I'm one of the Heskey haters so hold my hands up, maybe Houllier brings the best out the best in him ? My joint MOTM along with Cuellar. I've been pleading for a Cuellar/Collins partnership and today they were great along with L.Young at the back. Warnock still a liability and could have been sent off on another day - Although supplied the ball for the winner so fair play to him. Ashley really finding his feet in his new role and thought his link up play was excellent. Reo-Coker broke there play up well and put his body on the line when needed and helped the forwards during our counter attacks. Albrighton destroyed them 1st half they couldn't cope with him - Faded 2nd half and Houllier right to bring him off. Fair play to Houllier again for noticing how Petrov fades in the final quarter of the game and for bringing on fresher legs for the final minutes. Another goal for Downing - Very pleased to see him getting in the box and on the end of things just wish he would show more aggression in other areas and opposing sides are starting to target him as a weakness when were defending. Maybe my opinions differ to some but as you know being at the game gives a different perspective to what Sky's cameras show.
  3. Hi General, As has been mentioned in other threads our away support over the last few seasons has dwindled quite sufficiently and this was very evident on Monday night at Stoke by the huge number of red seats in our end of the Britannia stadium. I myself have been a member of the away scheme for 7 seasons and attend all but 3/4 away games per season due to work commitments. A few seasons back and even before the new era of yourself,Randy,MON etc our away support was excellent. This is the 2nd season of the 3 ticket return rule and your out for away scheme members and I think this new(ish) rule has contributed to the low turn outs at away games. I know of 2 season tickets holders who have dropped out the scheme this season due to the 3 game rule. Do you think we should go back to the old scheme in order to get the lost supporters back for away games as it's going to get worse before it gets better. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. VTID.
  4. Totally agree with this mate. WTF has happened to our away support this season & the back end of last? OK I know both games have been on the box & both not Saturday afternoon KO's this season, but the away support is dwindling by the game. I've been in the away scheme for about 7 years with my pal & it used to be a mare to try and get an extra ticket for a 3rd mate, now any man & his dog can get one. A friend of mine is a Geordie fan & the support they get away is unbelievable considering there location. He told me they took 7500 to Carlisle for a pre-season friendly this year & last season in the C/Ship took 4000 down to Plymouth - A 14hr 900 mile round trip !! It pains me to see these empty seats at away games especially as we all bill AVFC as one of the biggest clubs in England. Our away support is immense and I think a few of the fans who attend home games only would be SOLD on turning up away if they made the effort to come along & support for a game - I'd put money they would want to go again as we all know who go away it's an addiction & far far better than VP. I know moneys tight but other fans seem to find the funds so IMO it's all about making the effort. As for your player ratings - Very similar to mine. I think the fans who were at the game saw it different as we're not just following Sky's cameras. I'm glad though people are starting to see the obvious lack of concentration & poor tackling/distribution in Richard Dunnes game at the moment. He was woeful at Newcastle and really let Collins down last night. I've mentioned this a few times & been slated. I'd love to see Collins & Cuellar start against Bolton as I don't think they've both started as a CB pairing yet ?
  5. Just got back from the game so completely dejected !! My assessments of the players for what there worth - probably a lot different to what people saw on the T.V. Friedal 8/10. Done what he could but no chance with either goal. Collins 10/10. Immense having to deal all them long balls throws etc. Dunne 5/10. Let Collins down IMO very very average this season I'd drop him for Carlos against Bolton. Warnock 5/10. Jury still out for me. L.Young 7/10. Mr dependable as usual. Downing 7/10. Best game in a Villa shirt for ages. Albrighton 6/10. Tried his hardest but wasn't his day. Petrov 7/10 Steady but looked knackered with 15 mins left. NRC 7/10 If only he could finish. A.Young 7/10 Worked his socks off but would rather him out on the left. Gabby 8/10 Held the ball up, supplied crosses and was strong against 2 big lumps. Heskey 0/10 Don't think he touched the ball when he came on.
  6. It's going to be a really tough game this one - I'd be happy with a draw unless it's on the back of conceding a lead. Looking forward to it though, always a good atmosphere at the Britannia and the bonus of being back by 11 for a midweek away game. COME ON THE VILLA BOYS !!
  7. Hi General, I'm very excited about the appoint of Mr Houllier and would like to thank your good self, Mr Lerner & Mr Faulkner for not letting us down. The media thought we would crumble after the MON fiasco but I firmly believe we as a club kept our heads above deep water during this mini crisis and came out sailing into the sunset a much better and stronger club for it. I believe it's all behind us now and week can continue to build the club into a consistent top 6 side with Mr Houllier steering us in the right direction. Up the Villa General and keep up the good work.
  8. Welcome to AVFC Monsieur Houllier. I've every faith in you and know you'll take great pride in leading our famous club into a new era. I can't wait to get up Stoke Monday now - Bring it on.. *Forgot to add* Ladbrokes owe me £400 thanks to you good self so if you fancy a glass of wine ON ME, I'll be in the Holte Suite before the Bolton game.. :winkold:
  9. Fran I'd rather see GH at Villa park than Sven any day. Sven is a complete tube - Just look at his last job with the Ivory Coast. What a joke of a man he is.
  10. He will be manager. I can't see him accepting a DOF role after what happened with Roy Evans. The General states in his threads we're after a manger not a head coach,DOF or anything else that that the role can be called.
  11. Gerrard~~~ Gerrard Houllier ....Gerrard~~~ Gerrard Houllier .................... To the theme of stand up if you love Villa/hate the Blues. I'm up for it - Just gotta give the bloke a chance..
  12. Mr Houlier in England for Carragher's testimonial. Carragher, enjoying his big day at Anfield, almost let the secret out when asked about Houllier’s imminent return to English football. ‘Yes, I’ve heard that,’ he said. ‘And I am very grateful that he was able to make it for the match today.’ Read more: http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/sport/football/article-1309072/Gerard-Houllier-leaves-door-open-Aston-Villa.html#ixzz0ybcx5FxI
  13. That was inevitable with the US connection. The same way every other clubs misfits were linked to us when MON was in charge.. :winkold:
  14. What we all gonna do when this thread becomes locked after the new man is appointed ? I'm gonna be bored sh1tless as this has been my life for the last 2 weeks or so..
  15. On Kevin McDonald if he's first team coach 5. In the event that Aston Villa FC change the structure of their management team and do not call the appointed individual first team manager, Betfair will settle the market on the individual who is responsible for picking the first team. In the event of any ambiguity over the appointment, Betfair may determine using its reasonable discretion how to settle the market based on all the information available to it at the relevant time. I should imagine that might get quite interesting if anyone on betfair stands to lose out big time due to Betfair's 'reasonable discretion'. Mark Davies always used to try and claim that they were nothing more than the vehicle. I emailed Ladbrokes after my 1st post as I've a few quid on with them and this is what I got back in return. Ladbrokes state ; Winnings bets will be paid on the basis AVFC appoint a full time manager. If a DOF is announced and a coach appointed to handle squad selection and 1st team affairs and NO one person is know by the title AVFC 1st team manager all bets will remain valid until a 1st team manager is announced. To me that's confussing because if we appoint a DOF and I've got £50 on say Moyes my bet will remain valid as we haven't got a manager. Does this mean that If we got Moyes in 2 years and during that 2 years my bet remained valid will they pay me out ??
  16. I want Moyes but will gladly accept Houlier as our new manager If thats what Randy and the board decide. If he Is the man then we should all get behind him & the team as we did with Taylor,Dr Jo,Big Ron,B.Little,Gregory,DOL & MON. We are the bloodline of AVFC and many more managers will come and go through our lifetimes. There will always be those that support the manager and those that don't. When MON 1st come to AVFC I was grinning from ear to ear but I had friends who were unsure. likewise I hated DOL as soon as he stepped foot into VP (I didn't give him a chance) but friends loved him (at 1st till they seen the light ) but I still sang DOL C&B army home & away season after season because that's my duty as a Villa fanatic to support my club through thick & thin. One other thing if it is to be Houllier than If he were to bring one of the trophies he one here or in France to VP we'd all be happy. PSG 1 × French League: 1985–86 Liverpool 1 × UEFA Cup: 2000-01 1 × UEFA Super Cup: 2001 1 × FA Cup: 2000-2001 2 × Football League Cup: 2000-2001, 2002-03 1 × FA Community Shield: 2001 Lyon 2 × French League: 2005-06, 2006–07 2 × Champions Trophy: 2005, 2006
  17. I fookin hope so or we aren't taking it seriously.. Reading through the Generals post would suggest we've approached Everton at some stage ? If not then there's just no hope IMO.
  18. That's easy to type, but what do you do if Everton won't even entertain the idea of letting him go? Everyone has a price and Everton are skint. Randy sould flex some muscle like the other sugar daddies do. What if Moyes doesn't want to leave? Then he should firmly dismiss all the speculation. I don't once recall him stating "He will not be leaving Everton for Aston Villa" Surely that question must have been put to him this week when he was made favorite for a day or two ? "I am happy at Everton; I have always said that," Moyes told the club's website. "I am at a really good club and this season we have a really good chance and this is where I will be this season." http://www.setanta.com/africa/Articles/2010/08/11/Huge-boost-for-Toffees/gnid-74525/ I think this was all said before Villa showed serious interest. From what's been said by the General I reckon Everton ave been approached by Randy - Hence the sudden drop in his price at the bookies. What I mean is the speculation has really hotted up this week and Moyes has been for most of the week favorite for the job. He has never mentioned us by name once ie .. " I'm not interested in the VILLA job" I don't think he will come as he's to loyal to Everton but If I were Randy I'd seriously test there resolve and flex some financial muscle. If Moyes sees they've put a price on his head loyalty goes out the window.
  19. Do you think the bookies will pay out If we appoint a DOF ?

  22. General - I appreciate (and think many others will agree) the passion you've showed in your last couple of posts. I think some on here think you and Randy are not bothered anymore, abit like a car you bought brand new, that you washed and polished every week religiously. Now it's 4 year old it's sits dirty and in need of a service on the driveway awaiting it's replacement !! I'd give up a months salary if someone said we had to chip in to get D.Moyes but I know he wont be coming to AVFC as he's to loyal to Everton. However If the media and bookies are right (there very rarely wrong bookies) than I'd be happy to take Gerard Houllier as our new manager - I'm pretty sure most on here would over the others in the (media) running... Curbs,Southgate,Sven and of course our very own KMac who should remain a coach. One final thing General.. please don't appoint a DOF over KMac it will end up in disaster and we'll be back here before Easter discussing this very subject again. All the best Sir and keep you chin up and don't take anything to heart- It's passion. VTID.
  23. Houllier is still 4/1 @ Ladbrokes. Surely that price would have dropped if an announcement was imminent ?
