  1. I haven't voted yet, still thinking it's not an easy choice. I'm leaning towards petrov but my worry is that he's usually dead on his feet after 65 minutes and it can't be very inspiring watching someone tread water for the last quarter of games. That said I think we're sometimes guilty of overestimating the importance of the captain in this country, partly as a consequence of the blood and thunder nature of the game i guess. It is important but not as critical as it is in Cricket or Rugby where the captain has a formal role that can decide the result of the match.
  2. The livetext on AVTV is hilarious, it's got a certain feeling of North Korea about it
  3. I think you're ok for now but the next time you make a transfer you're obliged to take a Villa player out
  4. Agree about Suarez but worry is he might miss a few games at start due to Copa America still going on
  5. Hoping for another top ten finish after 7th last year and 5th year before. Giving up on my self imposed no Villa players rule - Given at £5m looks immense value
  6. This has been done every month for over 6 months, it's nothing new? Exactly the only realistic way of getting trend data over time is to ask the same question, which is what Gringo has done.
  7. I can't see N'Zogbia going to Liverpool as he and Carroll allegedly had a fist fight or three in training at Newcastle and appear to absolutely hate each other. Liverpool have signed a talented player in Carroll but they need to keep his head right as reports suggest he's more than a bit of a headcase. Signing a player Carroll despises wouldn't appear to be a good way of getting a decent return on the massive £35m fee
  8. There was a time when clubs had too much power over players but the pendulum has swung way, way too far in the other direction. I think football may be about to catch a cold and the main reason is the detachment between the fans and the disloyal, money grabbing players and their nefarious agents. Downing owes this club, end of and if he had a shred of decency he'd be honour bound to repay the debt he owes AVFC. I work in London and do some pro bono work with charities that are doing some genuinely brilliant work in improving some of the most deprived parts of the City. When we approach players who grew up in these areas to make relatively small contributions most are just not interested and the player's clubs say a lot of them aren't even arsed to help out with the club's own activities (visiting the local hospitals etc). They'd rather spunk their salaries on another sports car they'll only drive a few times or another piece of shit bling jewellery. They make me sick.
  9. the under 21s depress me with how abysmal they are. im worried that 2 of our so called starlets, cant get into the team. Well I can understand why The Fonz isn't in the team, there are better players in front of him who have done more than him at Premiership level but why Marc isn't in the team I can't understand! A bloke at work follows Burnley and he says Delfuenso was useless for them
  10. McCarthy was absolute toilet with Sunderland
  11. I'm assuming and hoping that the Mirror's Sanchez Flores story with no direct quotes is just lazy made up bollocks
  12. I don't give a monkeys that he used to manage Birmingham City, now they're not in the same league as us they're completely irrelevant to me. I just don't think he's any good, the Blues suffered an absolute and complete collapse after the Carling Cup victory, this would worry me greatly. Also they played some of the worst football the Premier League has ever seen. I still really, really hope this doesn't happen. I've been a Lerner loyalist and even if he does appoint McLeish he'll still have more in the credit column than the debit column but I have to say that this insistence on Premier league experience just strikes me as naive at best. There are managers on the continent with no Premier League experience who would clearly be better bets than McLeish. That said if the unfortunate does happen tomorrow, it's a new chapter and we have to get behind him 100%, if we don't I think a really poor season is guaranteed.
  13. Well that itself would be bizarre and so far has managed to cause more bad press. Well soon we'll know, some of the reports today esp the one in the Guardian give evidence to my theory, I hope I'm right And McLeish walking was all part of this plan?? Even if him walking was no coincedence, your saying that they are all going to act out a potential interview just to prove their dominance over fans? The club enquired over the availability of Martinez...So dont be surprised that they are willing to interview McLeish.. Yes I'm putting it out there as a theory, your (sic) disagreeing with this, it's just a theory that deserves some consideration
  14. Well that itself would be bizarre and so far has managed to cause more bad press. Well soon we'll know, some of the reports today esp the one in the Guardian give evidence to my theory, I hope I'm right
  15. After what happened to Maclaren and how it was reported I think the board have issued this statement to demonstrate that they are in charge of the football club. I think he'll get an interview but won't get appointed, hope I'm right
  16. I think we'll interview him I don't think we'll appoint him I think this statement is an attempt to show the rest of the world that the board are in charge rather than the 'Lord of the Flies' supporters populating the forums That said if we do appoint McLeish I'll be bitterly disappointed, he'd be a rubbish appointment, his Blues team played the worst football in the league for the last two seasons
  17. Ladies and gentlemen we have a WINNER!!! The prize for the most ungrateful, pig-**** ignorant, over the top, factually bereft reaction goes to..... C V Byrne. The prize? A season ticket at another club of your choice. My treat. We don't need idiots like you near this football club. **** off newbie. Loads of you new **** crawling about the place these days. Jesus you've made 6000 posts well done son 6000x bollocks = an awful lot of bollocks
  18. This cannot be true Rikjaard wants to come here and we're considering the manager who has played the worst football in the last 2 years of the Premier League, cannot be true surely
  19. If we do appoint McLeish do you think Jonathan Fear will reconstitute Villa Fans Combined lol
  20. Jesus **** wept this simply can't be true, McLeish has got the Blues relegated twice and his team have played the worst football in the league for the last 2 seasons. This can't be true there are several mangers out there who are available right now who are light years ahead of him.
  21. If someone puts their head above the parapet and posts 'in the know' stuff on an internet forum they deserve praise when they get it right and stick when they get it wrong. Mysteryman is good but not infallible, I remember when he said a deal for Distin was done and dusted.
  22. Dave Whelan is the biggest tool in football and Wigan are a nothing club. I went to a game there against Millwall the season before they came up and there less than 6 thousand in the ground. Suddenly when they got promoted 12 thousand glory hunters crawled out of the woodwork I hope we send them down next year so I can watch the price fixing little knob cry his eyes out and see a far more deserving club enter the Premier League
  23. Well let's get Ardiles in then Diego
