  1. Has felt strange this season not going to lie. Last season we were the chasers, knowing we had to win most weeks and being optimistic other teams may dropped points to open the door for us whereas this year we are being the hunted which is something we are not used too. If Man Utd were actually a decent team (like the Villa side this time last year) then the opportunity has been there to close the gap over the last few weeks but because they are rubbish the boat has sailed for them.
  2. I’m not completely ruling out Man Utd just yet but believe in 3 weeks time we will have top five wrapped up. Bournemouth away is no gimme as we found out. We will likely fail to beat Arsenal but hopefully they fail to beat Bournemouth and then whilst they play their FA Cup semi final we can beat Bournemouth at home which puts us in a great position. I back Emery to correct the mistakes of the last game against Chelsea so think we beat them this time round (especially if it turns out a win guarantees Champions League at this point).
  3. Hopefully top five will be enough for Champions League and we can just focus on finishing at least 5th which by the looks of it 2 more wins will be enough In terms of top 4, think we will need to pull off a surprise result somewhere. Think Spurs will beat Burnley and Sheff Utd (both will be relegated by then) and I think they win one of the fixtures against the top three (Arsenal or Man City at home) as they do fairly well against the top teams. Think they are more than capable of getting 4 points from Newcastle/Chelsea games.
  4. During the game when watching 9 minute capitulation I did think it was a disgrace and these lot don’t deserve to finish 4th but the reaction afterwards to make it 3-3 and trying to win the game calmed me down after. Still think its unacceptable to be 2-0 up at home to a team in the bottom 6 and going 3-2 behind for a team that’s challenging for the top four. Whether that’s Villa or any of the other top teams. It shouldn’t happen. Time will tell how costly it will turn out to be but we are not out of 4th yet. Plenty of football to be played yet. I expect Forest to take the lead against Spurs and Spurs to come back and win tonight we’ve seen that script enough times this season. If Man Utd were an actual decent team looking to finish the season strong the opportunities have been there for them to close the gap on us but fortunately for us they can’t put a run together. I guess this is the pressure part of the season, teams can drop points randomly and maybe Spurs will drop points unexpectedly too.
  5. Won’t be comfortable for us today but think we will win 2-1. Brentford carry a better attacking threat than Wolves and will cause us more problems. Got a feeling Watkins won’t be in the team today no idea why. Be interesting to see if/where Tielemans plays now that Mcginn is back. Does he go back to the left which allows Bailey and Diaby to play or does he drop Diaby?
  6. I’ve done a fair bit of reading on the Everton/Forest charges recently. One thing I seemed to notice is that both clubs were pre-warned by the Premier League they were likely to have breached PSR before the accounts deadline. I’d imagine if Villa were in danger of breaching PSR there would already be some discussions between the Premier League and the club in terms of what the plan is? Either way we will not find out until January anyway and probably when looking at how the club do business in summer but it was just a thought.
  7. I agree. Champions League is going to be great for us fans, club finances and obviously the exposure the club is going to get but I don't see it as a sliding doors moment where we are going to do what Spurs have done for instance over the last 15 years. Players who want to play Champions League will not sign for Villa on that basis because there is no guarantee we will be up there each year, players will join Villa because they see the club as an exciting project that's on the up. I think Newcastle would have signed the players they did last summer regardless of Champions League or not personally.
  8. Feel disgusting writing this but I think I've had more interest watching Spurs and Man Utd games this mid-week. Last night always felt a bonus to me. Will go have a shower after that!
  9. Enjoyed watching him last night especially first half. Just needs to adjust to the demands of the Premier League fitness wise as you could see he was knackered second half but can see him being a really good player for us next season.
  10. Happy with the position we are in. Do wonder if Spurs result the other night influenced his decision with the line up or whether he was going to do it anyway. Just have to wait for the Brentford game to see whether it was vindicated or not. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar line-up against Arsenal if the Lille score line is close after the first leg. Lille will have a free weekend when we play Arsenal so the away leg is going to be tough. Pretty sure towards the back end of last season Brighton had a fixture pile-up and De Zerbi was resting different players for each game.
  11. Two positives going into this game is at least we are not playing them a few days after they were hit with 115 charges and we already know Mings is going to miss this game!
  12. You'd think we'd only won one of our last 6 instead of 4 wins 1 draw 1 loss if we are in questionable form. I wouldn't call our fixture list brutal - Brentford, Bournemouth and Chelsea are all winnable home games. Palace and Brighton are winnable away games. None of our tough games are back to back either so if we do lose there's always the chance for a reaction. I'm confident we will get the wins required for top 5 ourselves (and top 4) but I think Man Utd will make themselves irrelevant on their own anyway. Chelsea (A), Liverpool (H) and Bournemouth (A) - they need 7 points from those games really to even give themselves a chance and I don't see them winning any of them. They barely have any defenders fit!
  13. I don't think they will go down anyway but glad Brentford are probably the last team in the bottom 6 we will play this season. Getting to the time of the year where teams in the relegation battle pick up unexpected wins. Palace will be on the beach when we go to their place.
  14. Oh I’m not saying they will win, I think they will lose that game. But I was just saying they still have in game in hand on us as LondonLax doesn’t think they do. They are going to have 2 games in hand on us soon though thankfully they will be 2 difficult fixtures and will cause some fixture congestion towards the end of the season.
  15. Yes but this game week isn’t finished yet. We will have 7 left after tonight whilst they have 8. In a couple of weeks time the table will show they have 2 games in hand soon for a couple of weeks since they don’t play the weekend we play Arsenal.
  16. Well they do. Since we play tonight it will be back to us playing 31 and Spurs 30.
  17. If I’m looking at the fixtures correctly by the time they play Arsenal we would have already got 2 of the most difficult fixtures out the way so if we can remain 2 points clear/level by the time they play Arsenal then I’m going to start feeling more confident about top 4. Not to mention the 2 difficult game in hands that will have to be re arranged towards the end of the season.
  18. I’ve watched Kudus play against Villa and Spurs in the past few and I have not come away from those games thinking he was good. Probably shines against the poor teams in the division but then again it could be Moyes tactics.
  19. Not surprised he isn't fit for tomorrow. Probably a chance he doesn't make Brentford game the weekend either and is being saved for the Lille game.
  20. I just hope we are not losing 3-0 at HT or get it to 0-0 at HT and then concede two quick goals in our usual 45-60 minute slot. At some point in these away games to the big boys we have to get a result under Emery surely? Not expecting anything here and hope the goal difference doesn't take a hammering but I'd like to see us do what Brighton did last season away to Arsenal (when we were hoping they would lose) and get a surprise win in either this or Arsenal away. Be good to see Spurs fans reaction if we did as they will have this down as an easy Villa loss.
  21. Always thought out of the two home games against Wolves and Brentford that the Brentford would be tougher despite our poor record against Wolves. Brentford will carry a much better attacking threat bar any injuries before hand. Was hoping Mbuemo wouldn't be back just yet.
  22. Think Spurs will drop points today and our point against West Ham a couple of weeks ago will look good.
  23. Obviously want to finish as high as possible but even if people started saying them comments they’d change their tune if it suited their club. Pretty sure Newcastle/Brighton fans were slating us getting excited for the Europa Conference League (De Zerbi even said he didn’t want to qualify for the competition on the pitch last season) yet pretty sure they’d all be excited if they qualified for it this season!
  24. Fully expect Man Utd to beat Sheff Utd at home with their game in hand but always felt this week was a big week in terms of the top 5. Felt they would drop points against Brentford so when Mount scored it was really annoying but thankfully Brentford scored and got the point which they deserved as an absolute minimum. In a way I think the West Ham and Chelsea results last weekend could be a positive for us. After throwing away a 3-1 lead they need to bounce back from that and they are at home against Spurs. Take away the 6-0 loss to Arsenal, West Ham don’t lose at home much. I’m half expecting Spurs to drop points there like we did. Chelsea/Man Utd is a tough one to call. Both are as bad as each other. Again I don’t think Man Utd will win here I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another draw but that Burnley result was bad for Chelsea, especially against 10 men. They will treat this as a big home game I feel. Not expecting anything against Man City but we play Brentford before Man Utd play Liverpool. We can possibly be 13/14 points clear before they head into that game. Can they beat Liverpool twice at OT? I’m not confident they can especially as Liverpool need to keep up with the title race. After this weekend, we will have 6 games left and it will be a case of hoping top 5 is enough for Champions League rather than worrying about Man Utd! I’m excited.
