Think people are being harsh on Sidwell who was very good when he was partnered alongside Reo-Coker, for the last about 65 minutes of the match, quiet alongside Petrov though. Sidwell and NRC partnership looks promising.

Oh and Sidwell + NRC = Barry + NRC of 07/08. It's what it reminded me off, they looked comfortable with each other and sorry but we were really exciting in that 2nd half like we were in that season and I do think the fact Reo-Coker wins so much of the ball means that we win the ball higher up. I mean with Coker in the team, he wins alot of the ball in midfield meaning we get the ball quicker out wide and attack 1 on 1. Last year without NRC, the only times we would win the ball back is when they gift us a long ball, or crosses into the box or shots meaning the opponents had time to set-up. NRC wins the ball in midfield meaning it suits our style, he HAS to play IMO!

Three man midfield, Petrov and NRC holding, Sidwell pushing forward, to me that looks nice and balanced. Petrov and NRC are both tacklers, NRC more so, but Petrov can pass better, and Sidwell can do a bit of both and can get forward and shoot. But I'd still prefer 4-4-2 with Petrov and a new midfielder in the centre. I've said for a while, without really being responded too that I don't think Petrov can play in a simple 4-4-2, because he's not the creative midfielder and nor is he the midfielder dominator what teams need. When your below the top 4, I personally beleive you need a midfielder with huge energy or play 4-5-1 / 4-3-3. The midfield you pointed out would balance each other nicely, but I do remember our best football coming in the 07/08 season with N-R-C and Barry in the middle. N-r-c that year made the most tackles in the Prem and as soon as we won the ball, we sprung an attack. Last year with Barry and Petrov in a 4-4-2, it was just pressure on our goal as the only time we won the ball back is if they mis-place a pass or a bad cross, or a shot because we just didn't tackle because Barry and Petrov don't. I think N-R-C and a really creative midfielder who can blooming pass, say Defour would really bring the exciting football back!

I'd disagree, we let them pass it with Petrov because Petrov isn't a destroyer, NRC and Sidwell are constantly getting stuck into their midfielder and giving them no time, that's not Petrovs game.

Petrov being out could be a blessing in disguise...

Guzan, Cuellar, Reo-Coker, Albrighton and even Sidwell in parts have looked very good who aren't usually playing or don't play too well.

We've been excellent this second half. Now I think Petrov is excellent, but as a central midfielder in a 4-4-2. We do seem to have far more energy with Sidwell and N-R-C IMO! Albrighton as cover for Milner is right!
