what 'objective stats' is he the highest rated out of interest? passing accuracy % for example he is the lowest rated of the CMs.

not trying to be difficult here. he's had a good season, but not spectacular IMO

Through balls, keypasses, expected assists. dribbles, fouls won

Defensively he is the one who fouls the most, but he is also one of the few who realises its better to take the foul (and the card) than let the opponent get past. (Vs United I was so happy when I saw Chuk tried to do it, somehow not managing it and won the ball, but still tried).

Mcginn has his flaws, but if we are to set on places to improve our team we should not look to sell Mcginn unless we get some ridiculous offer.

i'd say a fair few would debate that. he's had a good season, sure, but wouldn't say he's been the standout.

FYI - the below are the villatalk MOTM awards per player for league games this season. there have been good performances from all players this season and not really sure anyone has particularly stood out and the MOTM awards being shared around backs that up.

    bailey x2

    ramsey x2

    ghaz

    mcginn x3

    emi x4

    cash

    mings

    marv x2

    luiz x2

    buendia x2

If we look at all objective stats he is our highest rated player by quite a clear margin.

I am not saying Mcginn has been a god this season, but he has quite clearly been our best player so far. Hopefully that changes and we dont need anyone to standout.

Just baffled that the scottish player of the year isnt deemed good enough by some of our fanbase when he has been one of the few who at least performed above average until now.

They can also drag you down if they're simply not good enough as they're a weak link in the team.

McGinn, for me, is clearly one of the weakest members of the first team and is moving towards being a squad rotation option. I can't see a team putting in a bid that'd really tempt us as I don't think they'd see the value in it but I'd snatch someone's hand off at say 35m.

McGinn has clearly been our best player this season. That cant even be up for debate

Collymore says alot of weird things, but he is spot on when it comes to Mcginn

That would be some orchestration. "Score a goal, but make sure that Carney is standing near you when you do, so that he is the one celebrating with you.

If you score a goal and Carney isn't standing nearby, you're fired"

I am a sucker for conspiracy theories as well😎

Where else can he celebrate a goal on the pitch with the likes of Philippe Coutinho? Villa is the best place for you Carney. Look at JJ. It's only a matter of time before you get there too.

Was it intentional that Coutinho celebrated his goal with him first?

Perhaps Gerrard told Coutinho to do that? 😏

  6. In the 3 central midfielder roles we have Sanson, Chuk, Ramsey, Luiz,, McGinn, Nakamba at the moment. Only Nakamba is suited for the DM position if we are being honest.

I really like Luiz, but of the ones we have I actually can see the reasoning behind selling him to generate some money and get a DM in.

After seing yesterday, if we get a proper DM in who can run the midfield we can run a midfield of Ramsey - new DM - Chuk with Buendia and Coutinho infront of them. That would let us do what Gerrard wants in attack with the click clack plays. However would also leave us vulnurable for counters...

From what i see he is intelligent enough to write a statement like that in a foreign language and not come off like a knob. And that bodes well. Unless of course he just used Google translate.  Looking forward to seeing him in a Villa kit. And yes ,

Gerrard will know more than anyone else how easy it is to feel anger towards Paellardyce

He is a bloody genius if he gets google translate to come out with that.

I think he’s worth £15m if I’m honest, but I’ve always had a soft spot for Anwar.

I also think he is worth £15m. He scored 10 goals last season in PL.

However, I still cant fathom why Everton would want him. I thought they were ambitious to get Europe? His playstyle does not suit a Europe pushing team in PL. I think El Ghazi would be perfect for Serie A, where he can get a bit more space and time on the ball. He is a great player, but I dont think he is a good fit for Villa anymore. Still love the guy and wish him all the best. Model professional guy, who I feel have a bit underappreciated by some of our fanbase.

  9. If Gerrard believes he is the correct one, I say go for it!

More hesitant on Digne than Coutinho, but tbh it also sends a clear signal for others that we are the real deal. Which can help future convincing future signings. Does Digne become an success? I hope so, but I can also see many reasons for this to be risky.

Still, at the moment I am all in on the train. Lets roll with this shit, its no matter what we disagree on an exciting time to be a Villa fan!

I’ve seen him quite a few times for our u18s and u23s and he just looks a great talent. He plays with such a mature head for someone of 16 years old. The risk is great, yes but you could say that about any young player. He’s so calm and composed and he reads the game so well for someone so young. The press reported that when Feeney was at Fleetwood Town that Man United wanted and he has captained England at under 16 level

Just hopes he manages to get rid of the same lapse of concentration at times similar to the one Mings has. He looks the real deal, but occasionally does not pay attention to his surroundings. Only 16 thou, so I do not hold it against him :D

The modern full back doesn't really play crosses. The full back is usually playing the ball inside is what most are doing now like Cancelo or Kimmich

TAA is probably the exception as he is a brilliant crosser

Not sure if Kimmich is an example since its a few years since he played back (he took the Lahm path and is playing DM).

Regarding crosses I think its difficult to compare Cancelo and TAA, since they play in two different systems. Pep wants his full backs to cut inside towards the penalty box while the wide forwards keeps the width. Klopp wants it the opposite with full backs keeping the width..

Having seen so far what Gerrard wants tactically, we should probably aim at someone who have some capability to cross, since our full backs keeps the with while the forwards go more centrally. Targett and Cash do attempt quite a few crosses, they are just... how can I say it. Pretty sub-optimal!

Still trust that Gerrard and Lange/whoever supports this get it right!

  12. To be clear I have not written off Traore, he is just very frustrating to watch with his decisionmaking and inconsistency. (also delightful when he is on fire, like the WBA goal). He produced 7 goals and 7 assist last season which I would say is pretty good!

We do, hes playing L2 footy. PL a massive step up. Just give the kid some time

Its a massive step up, but i.e Dele Alli stepped up directly from League One to PL. Its hard, but not unthinkable.

I don't really understand the frustration.

Last season he scored or assisted one in every three games.

He was lethal for Lyon on the right side and is for me, our best option there by a mile currently.

I think the frustration is how high the highs are, but its so inconsistent.

He is Messi and sunday league player at the same time.

If he had proper decisionmaking he would be world class in my opinion

I don't know, but I do know his situation in Barca is more complicated than 'not getting a start in the worst Barca team for 20 years'. I believe their mess of finances and his massive wages have a lot to do with it. He's clearly being forced out and for understandable reasons when you look at the money.

Could be something the lines of what we had with Bent.

Couldnt play him because of certain clauses that meant either a pay rise or big pay out
