He’ll have some pretty difficult games to begin with. Next 5 are Newcastle, Man U, Brighton, Liverpool and Spurs. If he can create some sort of new manager bounce there — give him the keys to the city.

Plus Man U at Old Trafford in cup before Brighton.

Ten Haag likes to play a possesion based game, Emery counter attacking style with suit up perfectly for it

I hope you are right. Just wish we had an Everton or Wolves at home as one of his first two games. Getting off to a good start seems to be a must now for managers. Just hope there is patience as he is clearly a very good manager.

  3. Man United no mugs now. If Emery starts off with 2 defeats against them, will there be grumblings from the support that he isn’t the man for the job. I am over 50 now and I honestly can’t remember a time when managers are under so much pressure after a few early bad results. Watch this space. Suppose we can always blame McGinn if things don’t go well from the start, even if he isn’t playing.

  4. Totally agree. Even with the Mings assist for Mount, McGinn should have anticipated he was going to make an arse of the clearing header and followed the runner. Also, the free kick, should have guessed Emi was going to move to his right where he could have ran back onto the line and headed it clear. Definitely McGinn’s fault for both goals. If Villa had 10 Ollie Watkins playing outfield, we would be challenging for Europe.
Onviously a tongue in cheek post and I have been calling for McGinn to be taken out the firing line but the criticism of him, when others have been pretty poor also, has been over the top, in my humble opinion.

  5. Good to see SJM captaining Scotland to Group A of Nations League whilst Grealish and co will be farting about in Group B when it comes round again. Italians, French amongst others at Hampden. Estonia and Finland amongst others at Wembley. Well done John. Will see how long we can stay there…..lol

She will get off 100% disgusting and there should bw riots if she does.

100%. We should be out on the streets, in our thousands, smashing up shops, looting, attacking all the emergency services, setting fire to everything. Anything else that I have missed that constitutes a riot, we should be doing. Seems like the only fair and balanced response. Well said.

  7. It’s a conundrum indeed. Bruce, Smith, Gerrard, Clarke, his last 4 managers, clearly love him and it’s not for dressing like a chicken or organising quiz nights and yet the football experts on this forum think he is a dud. He has been the voted Scotland International Player of the Year for the last 3 years in a row. Again, forum members saying Scotland are crap and who is his competition. Robertson, Tierney, McTominay, McGregor all play regularly for clubs operating at a much higher level than Villa and we have other players operating on similar level and McGinn has been the top performer.
I am not blind. He has been very poor for Villa for a while but it’s clear where his best position is now. I wouldn’t be starting him in his current role. Unless SG has bravery to play him in role where he plays for Scotland I can’t see him offering Villa much and it would seem, going by the posts, there are 5 or 6 players better than him in this more forward position. Hopefully he gets a move but, going back to my initial point, SG seems to like him so unlikely he will be moved on.

Maybe it’s something to do with the 3rd class opposition. Ukraine probably have players occupied with something else going on in their country too.

7 players playing tonight beat RB Leipzig in Champions League 1-4 in Germany 2 weeks ago. They seemed focused enough that night.

nobody hates him, we just dont rate him and feel he is out of his depth its a huge difference

He has been a good servant for the club but time to move on, he hasnt improved in the top flight

I really don’t think he is out of his depth. Villa are a bottom half Premiership team. McGinn more than holds his own in international football. He is one of Scotland’s best players playing in a team that has superb record in last 2 years. I fully admit, McGinn has been very poor over last 12 months for Villa and I have no idea why he hasn’t been dropped, rested or whatever. I am not that blinkered to admit that but SJM is a player. Every player evolves and changes. He was always a box to box player for me but clearly, his game has changed. He is absolutely brilliant at supporting front man for Scotland. Rolls defenders, picks passes in or around box and gets shots away. I know Villa fans have love affair with Buendia, I rate him too but really feel McGinn would be more effective than Couthino at the moment. It’s a difficult one because Scotland play slightly different system to Villa. Watkins or Ings seems isolated to me when SG plays one up front. McGinn, when playing for Scotland, doesn’t play as out and out striker but gets beyond the front man often throughout the game and is so effective. Rarely see Couthino or Buendia get ahead of Watkins or Ings. Sometimes systems suit players and McGinn looks a 60 million player for Scotland and a 60 pound player for Villa at the moment. I actually think a move from Villa Park would suit all parties concerned. Different manager would play him in Scotland position, Villa fans would be over the moon to get shot of him and my team would get a percentage of Hibs sell on fee. Everyone is a winner.

You must be on the wind up. You’re taking Craig Gordon over Emi? Armstrong and che Adam’s  got hooked against us last week don’t remember seeing them do anything

Craig Gordon won the Scottish Sports Writer’s Player of Year this year. Has been absolutely outstanding. Emi brilliant keeper too but I wouldn’t swap Gordon.

Not sure if joking or not. But hopefully villa fans don’t have short memories. Happy for Mcginn tonight, but he’s been terrible for us.

Totally agree. I love McGinn but he has been terrible for Villa. Watched virtually every game this season and has been poor in pretty much all of them. I said SG should be taking him out of firing line. Let him have a breather, regain his confidence and maybe he can find his form. What is clear, playing in the position he plays in for Scotland, he thrives.

Im not watching the game but is it that our current manager failing to get the best out of him? or if anything, making him shit

For Scotland, he has a free role playing just off the striker. Appears to revel in this. Has a freedom and not afraid to try things. The chances he creates for us is unreal.

No way, cemented his captaincy now at Villa now and guaranteed starter.

Villa fans will be sickened that Villa player playing superbly against top class opposition.
