  1. Yip, always thought SG was going to be a great appointment for Villa after seeing how his Rangers team fared against very good European opposition. Proving to be the case so far. They just look really slick at the moment. Players look to have much more confidence and that is down to the management team.

The way Gerrard sets up the midfield with three specialist midfielders rather than trying to play a No.10 as one of the midfield three, means we're less reliant on wingers tracking back, obviously they will still do it to a degree, but now we've got midfielders who also get back and help the fullbacks.

It's not too dissimilar to how Liverpool set up, Mane and Salah don't have to worry too much about tracking back and their fullbacks can play almost in part as wingers, because of how their midfield is set up.

Totally agree. Rangers and Liverpool, in my eye, set up exactly the same. The two wider men of front three would drop into midfield when required to enforce the press but wouldn’t track back as such. The narrow midfield three were always the protection for the defence. The full backs were like wingers for most of game. Just like you never see Liverpool front three taking up the spaces that Robertson and TAA run into. It seemed such a fluid system for Rangers despite them being up against rubbish most weeks. There is no doubt it works if players buy into it. Liverpool’s tactics never change and nobody appears to be able to stop them.

One of the greatest thing about this appointment is that the whole can't play without Grealish thing has completely vanished.

Totally agree and to be honest, when you see JG at City, he is doing nothing. Receives ball on left hand side, tries to suck defender or two in, then simply passes inside or back the way. Doesn’t move it quickly enough or be dynamic like other City players. Played better when he was more central in Watford game. Back on topic, looks like players are all taking more responsibility under SG rather than relying on an individual to take control of a game.

I'd be interested to know if he's been told to play more attacking incisive passes, or if it's just  result of confidence. He slid more passes into their box behind the backline than I've seen him do in his whole time with us. Some real quality balls in there. Could have had a ridiculous amount of assists today.

Totally agree. They weren’t Hollywood balls either. Just 10-15 yard passes, slid through their defence that Watkins and others should have done better with.

Barisic is supposed to be pretty crap. KWP is right footed, so not the best choice if we're going for overlapping fbs crossing in. Henry is a decent player, but I'm not convinced he's that much better than Targett. If we go for a new LB I think it would have to be someone at a different level to any of our current fbs.

Barisic has never totally convinced me. He is not a rampaging full back like Robertson or Tierney. He gets forward purely because Rangers usually had the ball far up the field most of the time. He was pretty solid defensively. Nothing startling. His main attribute is his wand of a left foot. Fantastic delivery even on the run without taking touch. Croatian international with good number of caps. Maybe there is better out there.

Kamara reminds me of Eze when on the ball. He doesn’t look a defensive midfielder at all.

When opposition has ball, he always just positions himself so that they can’t play simple pass through the lines. Very subtle. When he gets ball, even with opponent round him, seems to have all the time in the world. Don’t think he has given it away all night. He is never going to win you a game on his own, not that type of player but every team needs someone of that ilk on the park. Let the match winners get on with it.

Granted I may be on a high just getting back in from Windsor park but I'm pretty sure the only rangers player we should be looking to sign is Steven Davis.

Fun story. His Northern Ireland song references Steven Gerrard so I had to sing "f*** your lampard, and Stevie Gerrard, but please don't take my Davis away" tonight at full voice. Felt weird.

I feel Davis needs more international experience before he be considered for a Villa Park transfer…..lol.

  8. I have been watching SJM since he was with St.Mirren. Without doubt, that is the best performance I have seen in any jersey that he has had on. Magnificent from start to finish.
