Tough one to call squad wise, which means Dean will go strong as nobody wants to be the guy who turns up to Chelsea starting Bogarde, Chukweumeka and Archer only to find Rudiger, Kante and Lukaku on the opposing team sheet.

I'd only be resting Martinez and Konsa (as Axel can't play v United). With Bailey, Ramsey  and one of WatkIngs on the bench

                  Steer

    Cash Tuanzebe Mings Young

             Luiz Sanson

    Traore.  Buendia. AEG

                  Watkins

Bench: Sinisalo, Bogarde, Hause, Chuk (if fit), Nakamba, Bailey, Ings, Archer, Ramsey

The other Ramsey coming in to the bench if Chuk isn't fit.

    Which Chuk to chuck

Spending will slowly cease up which is absolutely fine by me.

We are investing heavily into youth and sooner or later they will eventually need game time and prove that they are good enough. I still think that system is still 2-3 years away from working.

I was hoping for 1/2 first team players to keep us improving till then.

You should be happy then - we got 3...

  3. My gut is that we have dropped a clanger by not securing another CM. Overall window felt pretty good, I just would have thought we could have pulled 30-40 out of the bag to get someone and still be a low net spend.

What I don’t know is how much they believe in Sanson, and just how much the kids are going to push on. Chuk Rock seemed overwhelmed the other day.

Time will tell. I can’t buy into all this negativity though. We won’t be going down. Tread water for a season - quite possibly. Still expect us to kick on a little though.

I do think we simply have so much coming on tap from the youth in the next two years that there may be a view to pause on the spending and wait and see. I can buy into it. Someone like a Winkels feels like where we should have landed to me.

  4. Damned shame with this lingering injury. But still have hope here. Basically we can’t make any conclusions yet. He needs some real competitive minutes.

    Hopefully he’ll get them soon.

  5. Good window so far. I agree we need another mid. Would be fine with Witzel - someone still at the top of their game until our clearly amazing youth prospects come through.

I think we can get by with rotating a few of the youngsters in, but it delays our progress a year.

That said, I think it's crazy to say this has been a poor window...

Conor shouldn't be counted at all, He's got no future here.

Makes it 4 senior midfielders and 2 youngings.

    Hardly stacked.

And we’re just one Jedi Temple episode away from losing the younglings too.

he'd be a 'head turner' signing, but I'd rather we get someone who is an out and out 6.

Makes me wonder why we've got such a fantastic recruitment team in (including the man that found Kate, Mahrez and Ndidi) and we've basically just gone out and bought what a bloke down the pub would've said.  Ings, Tuanzebe, Young and JWP are great signings, but we've almost definitley paid a premium on all of them and most of them have alreay peaked - I would've much preferred a better balance of established and ones with a heigher ceiling.

I think IF we sign JWP Smith will be right up against it, he's bought 'ready made' players and we've invested heavily. Another 11th or even 10th just won't be deemed good enough with this squad and the money spent.

Oh and we still don't have a great number 6 nor a starting left winger.

You just wonder with their stats based approach. Success in the PL must be weighted far higher. At the end of the day everyone always quotes the overseas players that came over for peanuts and make it, but there's so many that fail.

Would you rather pay 25mm for a player that has a 50% chance of being our guy. Or pay 50mm for a player that is close to 100% certainty. It's not as straight up as picking the cheaper option.

Our midfield deficiencies have been clear for all to see over the last 24 months. People expressing concern on the topic isn’t short termist, nor is it overly pessimistic, it’s realistic.

We’ve just lost to a team that will almost certainly be relegated. A team that, once again, exposed our weaknesses in midfield. As much as you’re annoyed by the ‘overreaction’ on here, I get slightly annoyed by the posters telling people who are accurately criticising the squads failures, that they’re overreacting.

Whether you want to accept it or not, we’ve been very much a one man team for the last 3 years. I’d argue Grealish is the only reason we came up and then stopped up. He’s not here anymore and I apologise if I’m expressing slight concern that we haven’t improved as a team with our transfer dealings to date.

Be my guest though. If you want to ignore the ‘couple of data points’ and pretend we’re a more balanced and improved squad from last year, that’s fine too.

I agree we need a new midfielder, 100%. That's the weakest spot on the pitch.

My point was more that just because we lost the first game, doesn't mean we need to be all doom and gloom about the season. I think we're a much better side than how we played in the first 60 minutes of the game. Somehow our preseason preparation was awful, and looks like we're going to need a game or two to get up to speed. The first 2/3 of the game felt like the 2 pre season games that should have been on our schedule but somehow weren't.

I'm still massively positive about the signings we've made, and think there's more to come. We're just being coy, and letting the market know we don't need to spend the money sitting in our pockets...

Excellent. I’ve been looking at that book for awhile and then saw you brought it up. The universe is telling me to read it lol.

Anyone investing even a single quid in the markets in their pension should read that book!
