The sad thing is, one day Jack will regret it.

Not sad for me. This week has been a rollercoaster but somehow I’m at the point where I’m more excited than I have been in 25 years of being a serious Villa fan, and I’m resigned to Jack going. It’s so weird. What a week! Like even more excited than I was when I stayed late on a Friday night at work to see MON arrive and sign at Villa Park, or when we won the League Cup in ‘96. I think outside of MU, MC, Chelsea and Liverpool (who I even think are on a down slope), I think we can be the number 4/5 team within a year or three.

We don’t need links anymore, it’ll just get announced on the OS 😉

THIS is the sign of just how good our recruiting team are! It’s immense really. “Right lads - here’s the fourth highest scorer in the league (not from penalties) in the last two years. You’re welcome.” No news. We’re stealthing the market here…

The resident accountants always come out after a signing. ‘’If we signed him for 15m it would be a great signing but at 25m we’ve been done over’’

Right. When someone mentioned it 4 hours ago as a maybe I was like “no, doesn’t fit the project”. But we can’t have just a bunch of kids: “you can’t win anything with a bunch of kids”.

We bought a 29 year old. There’s a dumb fella just a year younger going for 160 million who is clearly better, but not 160/30 times better!

We’re getting a player that is a top 5 goal scorer over a three year period for this price at the peak of his career. Remember when 27/28 year olds got the most money on transfer fees.

The more I look the more I like this one. It’s good sensible business.

Yeah it maybe BS but if my family member was doing this I would be all over them.  It's hard for us fans but imagine being a die hard Villa fan and your son, brother or whoever was doing this...you support your family member whatever but my brother would be getting a big old beating about now!😂😂😂

Then Jack says “so you don’t want to join the family party in the Maldives for Christmas then”…

  5. Genius move by the club in terms of sweetening the Grealish shock.

I am still surprised - I didn't think he would be the kind of player we went for in terms of age. But what the hell. Top 5 goalscorer over several years, 130 million less than Kane and only a year older. It's not the worst piece of business in the world!

Shall we all just support a top 6 club then?

Supporting your local team used to mean something once.

All these fake fans can just do one! Let them go support a "Top 6 club".

I grew up Villa, they won the European cup the year before I was born, the league the year before that. My Dad had to give up his tickets to the Super Cup Final in '83 because I was being born...

I've seen two League Cups and an Intertoto Cup. Not a lot, still here Villa Til I Die.

Went to Uni in Manchester. Still VTID.

Lived in London for 5 years. Still VTID

Moved to the US 10 years ago. Still VTID.

Paid to watch them on really awful feeds in the US while playing in the Championship. Still VTID.

The ride is what I am here for.

Perhaps when they were chanting "Villa Til I Die" they meant "Villa Til We Sell Jack".

They don't deserve to be Villa fans!

Without Jack playing we averaged 0.94 point per game last season. With 38 games that puts us on 35.72 points , say 36 points. That's relegation or close to it.

Saw it all before with Barry's transfer triggering young,  Milner,  downing and the dismantling of our team.  Players will want to play for us while we have a player like Jack,  without him the likes of ollie , martinez,  mings, will soon want to follow . I'm sorry but that's history repeating itself.

Sad day for us and a sad day for football and the dreams it offers us all.

Jeez - lighten up. Totally different situation now!!!

Time for our fans to stand up and show if we are real or plastic.

I get it’s life changing money and opportunities but so is captaining the club you and your family support and being paid a six figure weekly salary for the pleasure.

Agreed. We all wanted to believe that he planned to take Villa all the way back to the top but as I said before, he’s just a footballer. He’s not a messiah. Playing for the club he supported suited him, till a better offer came along. He is an athlete driven by success. That’s fine but in this case he’s chosen to turn down the chance of being a lifelong legend who would be written to our history books indefinitely.

Instead, long term he’ll be remembered as a player who took us up from the second tier and kept us up in the top tier, got a few England caps then moved on. People will say how gifted he was but others heroes will come along in his place and do similar.

Being a Villa legend came second to instant success for Jack. That’s fine and I wish him well but I expected something more and it hasn’t happened. I’m not angry, I’m disappointed. More than anything disappointed in wasting my time thinking he was the central figure in something unique that we may never see happen again.

Now it’s time to revert to being a normal fan again, cheering on the players we have under contract before one day they move on too. Perhaps Louie Barry might be the true messiah or maybe he’ll be another Jack? Who knows. I’m just not sure I’ll ever get to see a true Villa legend in front of the Holte ever again, unless we become the next Man City that is.

    He’s a VERY NAUGHTY BOY

    Neither did Ashley Young.

We’re a midtable team. For a bit of competition up front, we could do much, much worse than Danny Ings.

No Young does fit completely. No fee, seeing out his last good years on a reasonable contract. Totally different to spunking 50 million on a player that will have close to zero residual value at the end of his contract.
