Carlos, Cash, Tim, Duran (sadly) and probably a player that will cause some consternation amongst us at VT, whoever that may be, but if I was pushed to guess, maybe JJ.

JJ who? I wouldn't be upset for a second if we can get a decent price.

Surely he was sold to Sheffield with an option to buy. That's not a loan. Nor an obligation.

In finance we'd call what we did a contingent repo.

We needed cash to satisfy FFP, Sheffield needed a striker but knew they couldn't afford the bill if they dropped.

So we sold with an obligation to buy back at a fixed price if they dropped.

And so we monitized 16 million for him, then buy back at slightly less which we now amortize over however many years he signs for. Cant remember what the exact $ buyback number is, say 13:

23/24: we recognize 16 million pure profit on FFP

24/25 (and 3 more seasons): say 3.25 million a year for 4 years of FFP cost

Its all financial engineering, but isn't the whole world these days...

I think our style of play is a cop out.....we are WIP.

He is playing the way he does, with the personnel he's got.

He just finds a way, he thinks he can win, with our squad.....which is remarkable.

I just simply do not, buy the idea, we will concede 5O odd goals in the league, by design and accept it.......sorry, he is more savvy than that.

Do you think, the top 3 have compromised their style, by conceding only 30 odd goals all season, and being in contention with us, with our attacking haul......that will not be lost on Unai.....and that's his challenge, when he says, "I want more".

Yep - perhaps we are addressing different points.
I am basically saying that if you have the best goalkeeper in the world, it will be difficult to adapt when he is not on the team. This is not an excuse but just an admission of reality. We can't afford to run a second-choice goalkeeper anywhere near as good (I only really see Arsenal doing that, albeit both of their keepers are far worse than Emi).

I think you are right.....but I think we have to rely on him, a bit too much.....the fact we do, should illuminate other areas to strengthen.

I get it, it's just hard to say you have, literally, the best player in the world at GK and to not build around that. I understand it makes us massively weaker when he is not on the pitch, but I don't think the answer is to change our style of play in a manner that makes us more resilient when he is not on the pitch.

We'd be nowhere near 4th without him - NOWHERE.

Have you seen the Luiz thread. We're getting there.

Tell me about it... One of our best servants of the last few years has a couple of bad games and he's the devil incarnate.

It's so stupid. When you are at work do you go through periods where you work far harder and everything just clicks and you are rocking it. Then do you have periods the opposite where nothing clicks.

I know I do! Give the guy a break!

Not a fan of Spurs fans either but that's what you get when you've had a relatively successful period and are established as a Big Six team.

I want us to stay humble too but we will become more expectant as a fanbase as we become a top team. Yesterday my moans were more around how we retained the ball than the actual result.

Same. It's ok to be critical of a performance - I said myself that we lose all organization when Emi is not on the pitch - he's the start of almost every attack and he organizes the entire defence. Also said I think we would have won if he stayed on - not because I think he saves the Gallagher shot, because I hate those kinds of discussions (people don't understand the multiverse). But because of his command over the entire game.

The reason Emi is the best keeper in the world is not only because of his shot stopping abilities.

He's our quarterback is the NFL analogy.

But back to your point - it's just what we do as humans. We adjust to a new level and then reset expectations. The hedonic treadmill it's called - it's how people spent more whenever they get more income and are never happy with what they have... it's a very empty existence to not feel grateful for what you do have. I now know that Villa can beat any team in the world - and walking into a game with that mentality is all I could ever ask for after 20 years of crap!

The spurs boo boys will be out in full force at HT I expect.

I enjoy reading their forum. The hate is real.

Saw some of that on our forum yesterday after Chelsea result - I'm going to be disappointed if we start behaving like entitled Spurs fans as we continue to ascend.

look, we are all disappointed especially giving a 2 goal lead away

but having read every post up to now this crap performance and bottle job and dropped points was all Olsens fault

Olsen was awful, he was crap, he doesn't command the area etc etc

we did not concede a 2 goal lead due to Olsen......far from it...but hey ho

    haters always gonna hate

    @ChicagoVillan1983 @bojong @osmark86 @brummybloke @DJ_Villain @sheepyvillian

i'm naming and shaming....put these words together wobble give head...others shit players performances....manager it wrong got

if i get a warning so be it but bloody hell...

oh, and i aint responding to any one of you who put something back at me because i can't be arsed as it will most probably be bollocks

Settle down, brother. Why is everyone getting so stressed out today?

Sucks that we lost a 2 goal lead, but we simply aren't the same side without Emi leading us out from the back and bossing the defence. Let's put it differently - you're having a go because I said we're a much worse side when the best goalkeeper in the entire world isn't playing? Think you need to get checked, mate...

It isn't being negative to say that. If you read the rest of what I said I was happy with a point and loving who we are this season!

No need to get so aggressive buddy. We're acting like Spurs fans...

  9. We will completely run over Bournemouth. Team is up for a this - you don't win a shootout after being 2 goals down until 87 th minute and leave on a low, you leave on a massive high.

Psychologically the way we got through couldn't be better.

I might be wrong but if Arsenal, City and Atletico advance then regardless of what happens on Thursday, 5th spot CL is all but certain.

We won't even need it: nothing to worry about. Villa going to nail 4th and blow this popsicle stand.
