  1. Just to counter your well made points, there's no reason why they wouldn't loan him to us in principle, however there are likely more preferable destinations where Madrid are concerned. I'm sure they'd like to see more of him in La Liga to aid his development and integration there, ideally they'd like to see him in a system/style similar to their own to get a better handle on his capabilities, and they'd like him to be playing at as high a level as possible. Now we can certainly offer first team football, but I'm not sure all the stars are likely to align on this one. I'd love to be wrong though!
  2. Another reason we wont be signing 6-7 players is we simply don't have the squad space for that many arrivals, key signings in key areas that can see us to the next window, still in the Premier League, that's the task ahead of the recruitment team. I don't see another left back coming in, Smith will have to do what he can with what we have in some positions. I think Targett will be much better as a wing back, seems to suit his game better, just need him to stay fit, we have Hause as an option and even Guilbert has looked decent there when he's had to fill in, he has options for that position. Smith has said we aren't looking at midfielders, though he could just be blowing smoke there. The main issue with our midfield is we simply haven't had the right balance, whether we have the right players with the right attributes to find that balance is up for debate, but Smith seems to think we do, so unless a really good deal drops in our lap (unlikely but not unknown in January) then I don't think we'll be adding a midfielder either. Smith has said numerous times that he wants another winger so I can certainly see us looking in that area, though it might be someone that can also play up top killing two birds with one stone, as we obviously need another forward even if Samatta goes through as planned. So I'd say another forward and another winger, or a player that can play both roles is most likely, any other positions would depend on outgoings of which I don't expect too many.
  3. From reading that I think it's fair to say he's frustrated, I'm sure everybody is. I think the toys are very much staying in the pram though.
  4. His finishing improves dramatically as the video goes on, looks quick, handy in the air and switched on. A bit of Gabby about him, though I'm not sure that's necessarily a good thing... For the money rumoured looks a decent deal for us.
  5. It could be Cutrone related, he's recently moved to Fiorentina on loan and would likely be using BHX to go back and forth. I'm just guessing of course.
  6. *sigh* You must be a lot of fun at parties. I'll edit the original post for the sake of your sanity, and be sure to have my Shakespeare coursework to you by the end of the week...
  7. I feel violated, they could have been my internet points...
  8. Very true. Actually, thinking about it, maybe we should bring the Easy Crew on board? After all they are always there to make a bad t'ing good! Irie Man!
  9. Most of the preparation for the game is done well in advance, the game plan will be in place days before, the coaches and players may work on that plan the day before a game, but obviously not so intensely they'd be knackered for the next day. Also, depends on when they travel down to Bournemouth. Smith has assistants for a reason and they should be well capable of running any sessions needed while he deals with any transfer stuff, he also has Suso dealing with the finer points of the transfers, so I don't think there will be that much disruption to him or the players really
  10. If we had no numbers we couldn't put out a team, if we don't bother with potential then there's no planning for the future. We needed more experience and another striker, we came up short, but lets not pretend every signing we made was a waste of time. We're three points of safety, it's not like we've done a Fulham. Grealish, Mings and Heaton have all made errors that have lead to us conceding, are they not good enough?
  11. We added plenty of potential, numbers and value to the squad in the summer (not appalling). That potential hasn't fully bore fruit yet, there have been plenty of encouraging performances undermined by too many individual and tactical errors, which are taking longer than we would like to sort out (should be expecting more).
  12. The window didn't close early, but the summer window is much shorter than it used to be, and we had a lot of players to bring in, we were much busier than every other club in the League, we were trying to sign another forward, it went to the end of the window and fell through and Brighton had stolen our plan B, so what are you going to do? Hindsight is a wonderful thing, it's easy to say we should of just got the plan B in and played it safe now. I disagree, it wasn't an 'awful' window in my opinion, it could of been better of course, but we've added plenty who's values have already increased, and some who's value could still yet increase. We'd of liked/expected them to of done better of course, but that is not down to the players alone. I think we should of bought a little more experience in the middle of the pitch but by all accounts Smith got what he wanted and was happy enough at the start of the season. Smith strikes me as the kind of person who likes to takes risks, I don't think the recruitment has been appalling (see above), but I think we should expect more from the players we have bought, 5 months is quite early to write off so many players careers at Villa.
  13. From what I recall the main reason we didn't sign another striker in the summer was time, we simply ran out of it. Money wasn't an issue as such, with Maupay we didn't value him as much as Brentford did and so did not pay the price they were asking (rightly or wrongly). Also, it was believed at the time we were in for a bigger name, although it never came out who that might of been, and we were waiting on what was going to happen there when Brighton jumped in for Maupay and agreed a fee. I don't think the signings of Jota or Konsa had any bearing on why we didn't get another striker. We took a risk and it didn't pay off and that's part of the reason we find ourselves in the situation we are in.
  14. That's only funny if you can convince yourself it's not true...
  15. Speaks English, Prem experience or 'plug-in and play' as Smith likes to say. Seems a very sensible move all in all, I'd just be surprised if we have the squad space now we have Drinkwater.
  16. I'd be fine with this, the guy likes a scrap and he's good on the ball, exactly what we need. I'd be surprised if we got another midfielder in though.
  17. It's going to be a loooooong afternoon if all we are going to do is debate Benteke...
  18. So where are all of these forwards we so desperately need then?!
  19. I've never been his biggest fan. I wouldn't expect anything too eye catching, because that is not his game, but what he does have is experience and we are desperate for some of that in the middle of the pitch, we've been so naive in that area so far this season, position wise we are all over the place at times, he has good awareness, keeps it simple, and most importantly knows how and when to keep the ball. Whether this works out is really down to him, but there's an opportunity there for him to make a big difference for us. From our point of view it's relatively low risk, and in truth beggars can't be choosers in the January market. Are there better players out there with less baggage? Of course. Are we realistically going to sign them for big money this window when are in such desperate need in other areas? Nope. We'll see how he goes, expectations seem pretty low which might work in his favour.
  20. Milan are in plenty of financial bother and I would think Piatek is on very decent wages that they'd happily shift if they aren't going to be playing him. At the same time they wouldn't want to strengthen their rivals, so a loan abroad may well make some sense to them... Not saying I believe it's going to happen, just that it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
