  1. Jokey comment aside, I do think we will be a strong side this season. Doubt we will be automatics contenders at the end, but think we could get into the playoffs this season (last season I said we'd be top half and if things fell nicely for us we'd have an outside chance of playoffs). Having signed Kalas as a CB permanently who has multiple promotions from the Championship and multiple playoff seasons too I believe was a strong start, albeit him and DaSilva aren't additions to last season, just replacing their own departures. Bentley is a very good goalkeeper who lost his way somewhat after a troubling year for him personally Szmodics looked brilliant on Saturday, however that was against a local non league side, tonight will be more revealing (again against a team below the Championship, but still). A central midfielder and another striker and we'd be a team to keep an eye on IMO, though it's thought one of our youth strikers will be involved a lot this season (Chelsea wanted to buy him for £2m in January when he hadn't even kicked a ball for us- has since signed a 4 year deal with another year option) Just a few weeks ago we were the same price as Luton to reach the playoffs! And even being top half was better than even money. Back on the topic of Villa transfers, our ITK reckons we'd have accepted a bid matching the rumoured fee for Mings that's rising to £26.5m, but that's simply his opinion rather than genuine ITKery.
  2. Brownhill is a cracking player. Will be Premier League one day. Central midfielder although has played out on the right for us and as an emergency right back. Personally would say he's the best of our CMs, wouldn't be cheap for anyone looking to buy him.
  3. If you don't make a signing on Wednesday, then.
  4. Reported by Acura Sports News that Webster has been given up on as you won't meet the £30m valuation. Quite who ASN are, I have no idea.
  5. It's only 6. Plenty of time yet. Half our announcements have been at 8pm!
  6. I also put that I'm very optimistic, wasn't talking about Villa though. In seriousness, I was a bit harsh with my "where will Villa finish" vote. Should have gone the next one up.
  7. https://medium.com/ram-blings/profiling-ball-playing-centre-backs-in-the-championship-113d4d085420 A thingy about Championship defenders in general, but look who is top of the "The cream of the crop" section.
  8. Hasn't said anything about who Webster's most likely to go to as far as I've seen. He did say a couple of days ago £30m being a bargaining position not surprising, he also previously said Villa kept coming back in with more offers after £12m and £16m were rejected. Edit- the £20m offer is from Villa.
  9. £7m real number, so if all of Websters clauses had been met he'd have cost us more. Buying Kalas unrelated to Webster, he was already a target. Cundy was signed from Bath and will likely be out on loan. Websters replacement already being approached if our ITK is to be believed and I'm not sure I've ever seen him get something wrong.
  10. Reported transfer of Kelly was £13m rising to £17m ITK person on our forum tells us it's £15m rising to £21m plus a sell on fee. The clauses for the extra £6m are at least partially related to England appearances. As a reference for this persons reliability, he told us Kalas would be signed today. Kalas's signing no indicator of anything to do with Webster as he's been a target since the end of the season. However this same person has also said next signing is likely to be Websters replacement. Whether that's an indicator of an accepted bid from Villa or someone else is the next question as Southampton have been sniffing around also.
  11. My comments when I first posted about him on this thread was that it would take £20m before I'd accept. Yes it's overpaying a bit but he is genuinely quality and among the best CBs in the division, and I can say that without any bias at all. I think WhoScored had him down as something like the 7th best performing player in the Championship last season- although that's taking what someone else posted without fact checking it myself. There's a part of me that believes that if he made the right move and had a good season in the Prem he would be in with an outside shout of making the England squad- not necessarily for a tournament, but a friendly. If it was Bristol City being linked with him as a Premier League side but still had the knowledge from having seen him this season my concern about the price wouldn't be to do with whether he has the ability to step up. But whether he is past his previous injury issues.
  12. Here's a post on our forum from someone who's actually ITK.
  13. I get you may not like Johnson, and without wishing to completely derail the thread... In our League cup run we played a pretty much fully rotated squad in the first 3 games, and our injury issues (9 out for 3+months at the same time) started in November, long before the semi final. We then played a full youth team except Flint and the goalkeeper away at Watford in the FA Cup. Last season we were out the League cup first round and only won 2 FA Cup games, both with rotated sides, as was the game we lost (full Portuguese international for Wolves in a midfield contest against someone with something like 3 appearences for us ever). He absolutely tried to win the League Cup in 2017-18, but once you're at that stage you'd be mad not to. But any other claims are overstatements. Anyway, back on topic, I give it a 34.2% chance if you guys signing someone today.
  14. I wasn't bragging... I didn't even say our goalkeepers performance against you was good, which would kind of be a prerequisite for bragging about his performance. It was widely said on here at the time how well O'Leary had played. So in response to a question about how Butland had played I gave a comparable performance to what I had seen from Butland. Honestly, there's a few of you who seem to try an antagonise and then are confused as to why people hold resentment.
  15. He put in a performance against us at Ashton Gate like our goalkeeper did against you in the second half at Villa Park.
  16. You missed my post after that one then? I have moved on from it.
  17. You are aware how conversations work aren't you?
  18. £3.5m up front, rising to £7m mostly dependant on appearances as I believe he had never completed more than half a season without a big injury until last season. Ruled out goal was by Weimann about 10 minutes in I believe. Tbh the games long in the past now and we didn't deserve to make the playoffs anyway based on the results of the full season (although the Derby home game still gripes. We were as dominant with 10 men as you lot were against us after the penalty, yet lost 2-0).
  19. Best CB in the Championship last season, counting Mings too.
  20. The game where we had a goal incorrectly ruled out at 0-0 and Hourihane dived for a penalty? (After which you guys did dominate, granted) Yes. But he's absolutely in the top few CBs in the Championship. *Waves*
