  1. Hasn't played for Argentina for 3 years. Plenty of GK's ahead of him. Maybe he'll become number one if he's playing regularly? Got about 4 GK's ahead of him atm
  2. I guess we have to assume until we see him play he's world class
  3. I'd take him over no one/ our current no.2/3/4/5 (we like to buy GK's ), 100%. Many I'd have instead of him, disappointed we couldn't get better or didn't spend that 8mill else where. That's my view
  4. You either don't understand or don't believe that a backup GK with less than a year left on his contract is expensive at £7mill. We're not going to get past that so there's no point in having a discussion. Fine he's a great signing and a bargain and can't wait to see him play when we can finally get back into the stadium. For future reference, every player we sign will be better than someone in the squad, so copy and paste what I've put that for every player we sign.
  5. Not at all. You don't need to be an insider in the club to know £8mill spent means £8mill less on the budget. We've got a budget of £Xmill and I don't think we're spending it as well as we could. As fans, we are allowed to have an opinion and just because some of us are not overly happy with every single signing, just because it's a signing, doesn't mean it's wrong.
  6. Which is exactly why I'd prefer to get players who are an upgrade on those positions i.e Aarons, Edouard, Rashica, Martinez etc. There's no definite's they'll blow their competition out the water, but I think we've got a good enough squad to take risk on players like we did on Douglas Luiz, Adama, Gueye, Amavi etc. that could take us to the next level. Our team is good enough now in my opinion we don't need to be like Bournemouth and over pay for average players
  7. Yes, I wouldn't say wait until next season, he probably would have better offers. I'm saying considering Heaton 33 (£8mill), Martinez 27 (Maybe £15mill), Ramsdale 22 (£18mill), Romero with 9 months left on his contract is not a good deal at £8mill. Whilst it's nice to improve the squad as a whole, my concern is by Christmas our starting eleven could easily look like, assuming we buy Wilson (20m), Watkins (28m), Cash (16m), Romero (8m): Heaton Cash/Guilbert Konsa Mings Targett Luiz McGinn Hourihane Watkins Wesley Grealish £72mill spent is a lot for a team that looks not massively better than what we had last season.
  8. Very true, and I hope he comes in and can be as good as he has been for United because he's not a bad GK. Maybe I just really rate Heaton, but I think Heaton will be no.1 next season, which is why I don't like the idea of spending first choice GK money on a potential backup. Personally, I wanted Reina back so be steady until Heaton was back. And focus the rest of the funds on 3-4 quality players (ST, RW,LW, CM). Looks like we'll be similar to last year and spread the costs across improving the squad. We will have a better squad than last season, and I guess it's less of a risk than massively improving the starting XI, but potentially being left short with a few injuries.
  9. The thing is as a fan, you don't have to be happy about every signing, that on the surface, would improve our squad. You don't have to be happy with signing Jota, Lansbury, Nakamba, Samatta, Hause, Hogan, McCormack, Tshibola, Bree, Nyland. Just because they appear to be "better than what we've got", does not mean you have to be happy with them.
  10. Okay Romero is a good back up to Heaton, agreed. Maybe a very good backup. £8mill is not a snip or even a good price for a 33 year old back up GK with 9 months left on his contract, we are overpaying. You'll probably struggle (I may be wrong) to find a team that's spent more than that on a Backup GK in the prem in the last few years. £8mill on a backup GK is not a sign we are focused on other areas at all. Comparatively it's a lot of money for a back up GK, if we were focused on other areas, we'd get a loan or let Steer start the season. In simple terms, Watkins + Romero = Edouard for example (it's obviously not that simple but you get my point). And it's not like complaining we're spending £10mill on a very good player who plays Jack's position, it's like complaining we're spending £80mill on a very good player who plays Jack's position, except we can't just move the other player to another position, so one has to go on the bench.
  11. He is a gigantic improvement on Nyland, agreed. Where people don't understand my opinion is that, yes the players we are signing are better than at least the squad players that we have. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting clear improvement on the starting XI. You're not a bad person for believing there's a lot better options out there.
  12. The idea of the metric is if the best we can do in 6 years is a 39 year old Romero, then somethings gone wrong. Whether that's relegation fodder or Championship. We're not going to be challenging Europe with him, although that's just my opinion
  13. Perhaps not but Arsenal are keen on Raya from Brentford, Martinez wants first team football and Leno is very good. So not out of the question.
  14. Yeah but you're comparing a guy who played 450 prem games to someone who's played 7. Just because there's an example of a player who's played at the top level at 39, doesn't mean everyone will do it
  15. Agreed but you get Martinez, Ramsdale or anyone a bit younger and you don't have to worry about that. We'll be looking for a new no.1 within 2 years.
  16. If he is we'll have failed massively in what we're trying to do as a club
  17. Don't see the point in this at 33, would of rather got someone we could develop under Heaton to eventually take over as no.1. Oh well, hope he does well in his 3 games (assuming Heaton comes back okay)
  18. For me Rashica, Edouard, Aarons and McKinnie (now gone Juve) all very inspiring. Shame if none come off and instead it's Wilson, Watkins Cash. Think they'll do okay but we could be more ambitious. Maybe they're all unrealistic for where we are at now.
  19. I'm surprised there's not been more talk about this! Only realised yesterday that assuming Grealish plays winger, if McGinn or Hourihane gets injured/suspended, our only cover is.... Lansbury
  20. Tammy did well in a free flowing Chelsea team but then was kept out the team by Giroud. Would love to have him back, but think he'll struggle next season. Wanted Maupay last season, you could see from watching him in the Champ he was clinical and most his goals would go in in the Prem. Wouldn't take Pukki and Adams scored less goals than Wesley in double the amount of appearances so didn't do well
  21. Not really, there's just not many good strikers in that league, at least that can make the step up to the Prem.
  22. I love this idea, sign 3 championship players to add to the team that just avoided relegation and we're one good signing off challenging Spurs and Wolves for 6th
  23. It's how far over the line the ball has to be for Hawk-Eye to work for each team, in inches.
  24. Our backroom staff seem to not care about contract length either when it comes to transfer fee's Romero over Ramsdale is a crazy opinion but you're entitled to it so fair enough. And how is this any different to what we've been doing the last few years? Kalinic and Nyland are both international GK's. If anything, we'll be doing the exact same thing we've been doing the last three years.
