That Petrov is winning by double the next guy, for me shows what a shambles our team is ATM. My Chelsea mate just FBed me "got a really strong feeling Villa gonna go down this year" and with NRC gone and the flimsiest midfield in the premiership and 31 worth of goals direct or assists from last season gone in Young an Downing I can't rush to dispute him on that.

The words broken and record spring to mind. You're like a broken record commenting on my feelings about Petrov. I've told you what I think and why. How about you and not the usual banal "he's such a great ambassador" When has he influenced games by his captaincy. I mean **** seriously. He never has. Never!

I posted this on another forum. It is the reason I feel the way I do about Petrov mainly. Take is as you like: As an aside because his names been brought up, for me, regardless of his departure, Barry was 10 times the player and 100 times the captain Petrov will ever be. There was that one season where Barry inspired losses into wins or draws(remember the penalty for the 4-4 with Chelsea. Every neutral in the pub in Dublin was willing him to score and cheering when he did) I can honestly say, I don't remember Petrov ever "turning" a game for us in a positive way as captain. I remember to badly the 1-0 against Blackburn then 1-1 which he was responsible for then them getting a man sent off and us losing 2-1 which as I recall was the fault of Petrov letting his man glide past him. So many times he's been an absolute joke in games we've lost. Like a winger in rugby that can't tackle for shit and all the tries get scored on his side because he's such a pushover. I've played football since I was 6 and I'm not an amazing player but I think I know the game well and I've always thought Petrov is a poor poor player in one of thee most important, hardest to play well positions on the pitch in CM. Never thought he was capable in such a integral position but he's been blessed with being paired with some outstanding players as Barry, and Milner and even Reo-Coker when it comes to tackling and he really has and continues to get shown up for his defeciencies when he doesn't have such a player next to him. That's heartfelt. Respond as you will.

People taking friendlies seriously drives me nuts, especially when they are in one of the most humid places on earth and one of the teams has acclimatised for the best part of a month and the other has been there a week. I'm not basing my opinion of Petrov on 2 friendlies. For me, his performances were par for the course.

I've been accused no another thread of being critical of Petrov for his performance in the Chelsea friendly but he was dregs against Blackburn. Astonishingly some people lauded him. Why? Because we won 1-0. Not 3 or 4-0 because Captain Slow stopped the game from flowing. It's got to the stage where we win 1-0 or even draw 1-1 against a woeful Blackburn with Petrov in the side and people use that as ammunition for how wonderful he is. Drives me nuts.

Let's be fair. It all started to go downhill when he got rid of the highlights.

:shock: Hope to god you aren't a talent scout. Who else has there been then? And dont throw out the NRC comment because he can't pass and hasn't been able to pass for years. Petrov played a role for us and played it very well. It was no coincidence that when he came back into the team at the end of last season that we started picking results up again. That we perform better with Petrov in the team is a complete myth and there are stats to prove it.

I doubt any Premier League team would be interested in Petrov on the wages he is on, or if you significantly lowered them

Gosh. It's so far of the mark. I should change it to Mortimer thinks Petrov is great. That would be far more accurate.

Petrov is detrimental to the team as a whole. Slows everything down and cant make a forward pass for toffee. Takes half hour fannying about with the ball then passes back to the CB's. Would be more suited to playing in Italy where you get more time on the ball I have been saying this for several seasons now. Sometimes I think a lot of supporters are on crazy pills they way they go on about Petrov.

Also pre-season results really mean **** all. Surely you've followed football long enough to know this. I have but thanks for the dig. Zhirkov and Bosingwa will not hold down a starin spot this season unless the new coach has plans for them and I know Chelsea are blessed with this depth of talent but friendly or not, I had hoped we would have a go instead of this complete limp dicked approach with a negative approach with the piss poorest of players hanging onto there former glory. We have a knack of reviving players in the doldrums career. Shevchenko got that hattrick in the cup match when he was getting loads of stick at Chelsea. I am so looking forward to another season of Petrov as captain, guaranted starter. We are going to do awesome!!!! Yeah, he is so good!
