  1. Getting fundamental religious people to understand flaws in the bible is hard and I'll prove it.
  2. Books like Chariots of the Gods are what got me interested in the Bible in the first place and evidence of a highly advanced global ante deluvian civilisation. If the deluge did happen then this would be a legend that is deeply ingrained in the history and legends of the World. That is exactly what we find. Chariots of the **** Gods? Holy shit. I think you may have found someone, in Erich von Danniken, whose "theories" are more ridiculed than creationists. On par at least. Wow! Von Daniken?! Heh, this thread just keeps getting better! Or is it sadder? When people reference Von Daniken "as evidence" the argument is over before it even started.
  3. How do you know it was not taught by Jesus?
  4. Quite, and God and his son Jesus (plus also the Holy Spirit) didn't go to all that trouble creating them in seven days and stuff for this. Watch out. Don't mention a trinity or JulieB and steaknchips will be on to you how there is no scientific proof of a trinity.
  5. Can you please stop justifying crazy christian evangelists by using other crazy christian evangelists as some kind of testamonial.
  6. I think we can all look forward to the time when these three theories are given equal time in our science classrooms across the country, and eventually the world; one third time for Intelligent Design, one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence. —Bobby Henderson

  8. Really?..... it took me about 1 minute to Google "Halloween and the Flood" and I found quite alot of information including the following - Let's keep it polite please - NV It only took me a minute to find the authors are fringe creationists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Genesis_Flood:_The_Biblical_Record_and_Its_Scientific_Implications The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record and its Scientific Implications is a 1961 book by young earth creationists John C. Whitcomb and Henry M. Morris that "produced a stunning renaissance of flood geology,"[1] elevating the hypothesis "to a position of fundamentalist orthodoxy"[2] while both polarizing evangelicals and carrying young-earth creationism "to an ever wider Protestant audience."[3] .............. After opening with the declaration that "the Bible is the infallible Word of God,"[17] Whitcomb's section provides biblical arguments for a universal flood[18] as well as attempting to refute non-geological difficulties with the biblical account.[19] .............. Outside conservative religious circles, The Genesis Flood created "hardly a ripple of recognition."[29] Not surprisingly, it was ignored by mainstream geology journals; less accountably, it also remained unreviewed in any of the dozens of periodicals covered by Book Review Digest. At a talk given to the large Houston Geological Society, Morris was ridiculed by the president in his introduction, and Morris's call for questions at the conclusion produced none, because as one member said, the audience was "too stunned to speak."[30] Whitcomb and Morris "attributed the impasse between themselves and their critics to competing cosmologies."[31] They argued that the term science could refer only to "present and reproducible phenomena" and that contemporary geologists who discussed the history of the earth were thereby operating as non-scientists.[32]
  9. Before you do anything make sure she doesn't have access to knives
  10. Shut up bro. You can't argue with what the Watchtower tells people to think. It's on several websites on teh interweb FFS!
  11. steaknchips, you know all the websites you are referencing to back up your point is like a pro-smoker saying cigarettes don't cause cancer referencing a study on as Phillip Morris website even though that probably doesn't exist because that would be laughed at as idiotic
  12. If people want to belong to a cult/religious organization, I say good luck. If they want to come on VT and spout Watchtower nonsense and expect not to be called on it with derision well...
  13. seriously tho .... even most christians don't believe the bible in same literal way you seemingly do . Especially the stories of Noah etc... And why are Jeehovah witness's (like yourself) so fond of the old testament anyhow?.... Here's a good description of JW. It's from a Christian perspective but describes it's cult-like nature well. The Jehovah's Witnesses are discouraged from looking into Jehovah's Witness history or old Watchtower literature which is replete with contradictions, altered doctrines, and false prophecies. Instead, they are indoctrinated repeatedly against basic Christian doctrines (Trinity, deity of Christ, etc.) and into the notion that they alone are the true servants of God and that all others are either in "Christendom" or simply unbelievers. Primarily, the Jehovah's Witness organization is a mind-control organization that uses its people to pass out literature and send in "donations" to the headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. The Watchtower organization of the Jehovah's Witnesses is a non-Christian organization that uses its people to promulgate false doctrines, and collects "contributions" for distribution of a multitudinous amount of literature, and expand its grip into the lives of its members and their families. It is a non-Christian cult.
  14. Mud slinging is how you describe people disagreeing with your cult's insane interpretation of the bible. The Witnesses are told they will be persecuted when they go door to door teaching their doctrines. They are further told that this is simply the enemy fighting against God's organization because they are in "the truth." So, when someone disagrees with them, they are conditioned to reflect on what the Watchtower has told them. They then feel confirmed in being in God's true organization on earth (like all cults claim). They are strongly encouraged to have friends and acquaintances that are only JW's, thereby keeping outside examination to a minimum. They are told to shun those who leave their group, for in this way there is no way to see why someone has left and no way to find out that they are in error from those who have found the truth in Christ. They are conditioned to shy away from any real biblically knowledgeable person. An example of this is frequently found on the Internet. It is obvious that critical examination of their doctrines is not encouraged by the Watchtower Organization. Typical behaviour of religious people confronted with resistance to the ideas they espouse of which JW are the extreme. 1. Make outrageous claims. 2. Cite confirmation of their outrageous claims written by someone who believes the same outrageous claims. 3. Say things like you have your beliefs and I have mine. 4. Refuse to acknowledge gaping holes in their theories. 5. Accuse non-believers of being disrespectful. 6. Give up and leave. I hope we've given you lots to talk about at your bible study cult meeting.
  15. What is truly Satanic is refusing a child receive a life-saving blood transfusion because of following a translation of the bible by Charles Taze Russell. Jehovah's Witness is a cult and has about as much veracity as believing in Jedi.
  16. It must be wierd following a religious cult that is derided by atheists and other christians for different reasons.
  17. Answers? I could say the pyramids were built by hovercrafts with tractor beams and the evidence of this has been lost over time but it would still be bullshit.
  18. One will suffice. Why does there need to be 1000 websites to explain that contradictions in the bible aren't contradictions? To save undermining the fundamentalist bullshit that get's espoused. Could it be Occam's razor? That the simplest solution is that they are contradictions because it's handed down myth and legend.
  19. There are no contradictions in the bible. Especially not right at the beginning with Genesis 1 and 2 Order of creation Here is the order in the first (Genesis 1), the Priestly tradition: Day 1: Sky, Earth, light Day 2: Water, both in ocean basins and above the sky(!) Day 3: Plants Day 4: Sun, Moon, stars (as calendrical and navigational aids) Day 5: Sea monsters (whales), fish, birds, land animals, creepy-crawlies (reptiles, insects, etc.) Day 6: Humans (apparently both sexes at the same time) Day 7: Nothing (the Gods took the first day off anyone ever did) Note that there are "days," "evenings," and "mornings" before the Sun was created. Here, the Deity is referred to as "Elohim," which is a plural, thus the literal translation, "the Gods." In this tale, the Gods seem satisfied with what they have done, saying after each step that "it was good." The second one (Genesis 2), the Yahwist tradition, goes: Earth and heavens (misty) Adam, the first man (on a desolate Earth) Plants Animals Eve, the first woman (from Adam's rib) How orderly were things created? #1: Step-by-step. The only discrepancy is that there is no Sun or Moon or stars on the first three "days." #2: God fixes things up as he goes. The first man is lonely, and is not satisfied with animals. God finally creates a woman for him. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things) How satisfied with creation was he? #1: God says "it was good" after each of his labors, and rests on the seventh day, evidently very satisfied. #2: God has to fix up his creation as he goes, and he would certainly not be very satisfied with the disobedience of that primordial couple. (funny thing that an omniscient god would forget things)
  20. The bible is literally true and not full of any contradictions.... War or Peace? EXO 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. ROM 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. Who is the father of Joseph? MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli. Who was at the Empty Tomb? Is it: MAT 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. MAR 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. JOH 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. Is Jesus equal to or lesser than? JOH 10:30 I and my Father are one. JOH 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. Which first--beasts or man? GEN 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. GEN 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. GEN 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. How many stalls and horsemen? 1KI 4:26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. 2CH 9:25 And Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. Is it folly to be wise or not? PRO 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ECC 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. 1CO 1:19: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." Human vs. ghostly impregnation ACT 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; MAT 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. The sins of the father ISA 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. DEU 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html
  21. I don't understand why so many non-Jewish people refer to a text that is inherintly Jewish and not that old relatively in the civilised world. That is why I could no longer be a Catholic from the age of 14 as I couldn't believe in a collection of Jewish myths and legend that were foisted on my ancestors purely through the circumstances of history and conquest.
  22. How can we argue with such well grounded "suspicions"...
  23. All religions are brainwashing cults but JW is a particularly insane cult
