John McGinn. I've followed Villa from abroad since I was about 6. I was starstruck by Yorke and I loved Barry. Laursen, when fit, was the perfect centre back. Benteke made me dream again. Grealish is the key and the flair and the face of our club. But this dude is my dude. He is the perfect combination of grit and magic. Amazing team player.

Crazy ref but we now need to find the character and determination to get something from this game. It's a good test on the mental strength of the team. We seem unprepared for the high press and physicality. Weird. Tuanzebe need to be more active moving into space when it's there. Now it's a short pass to a fullback under pressure, then hoofball into nowhere. We're not winning games like this playing long balls to Tammy.

Mings is just an awesome player. Just love the pace he puts into his passes. We struggle a bit when they press higher up the pitch. If we had wingers on form or suited for counter attacking we would have a more effective alternative to the long ball to Abraham. We're quite good when we're allowed time to build an attack through our midfield trio.

We simply don't have the energy or ability for any tactic to work consistently throughout a game. Outplayed and deservedly beat.

Wow. I did not believe they had the determination to return from the dead like that. I mean half the crowd has left and you're three nil down at home. And they keep pushing. They might not be excellent footballers but there is some desire in there. McGinn is just phenomenal. Thought the centre backs were good and Hourihane was running and trying. But I thought actually Whelan came in and changed it for us. MOTM.

Fullbacks are too poor technically and our wingers lack confidence and concentration. No chemistry. We might sneak a point here but it's clear that we're inferior in almost every meaningful footballing way. The fans at VP expect better and better is just not happening, which seem to affect some players badly and the downward spiral is on. I see nothing but a long rebuild ahead.

Absolutely pathetic display so far. As crap as we are at the back, our front three are pissing away any chance of buliding momentum by trying to be fancy instead of building a proper attacking team move. Just lack of intelligence all around. Incredibly disappointing that our team seems so mentally immature and unproffesional. Keep McGinn and Kalinic. Sell the rest of this pile of incompetence.

Just watched the second half. A lot of misplaced passes. We need more composure from our guys if we're going to win games against this kind of energetic huff-and-puff opposition. With and without the ball, our defence is looking like a guy out on his first date. Abraham is our best defender atm.

Dean Smith (and his staff) is putting the pieces together. It may take some time to get it all right, but as long as we're moving in the right direction I'm enjoying the ride. I'm relieved that the people in charge see that our momentum over the next few years is all about building a coherent confident playing style which is enjoyable to play and to watch and not about star players or short term goals. On the whole a very solid game by us. Bring on the next one.

We're quite quite bad but I guess the future is bright. I don't really care about the result, I just want to see a process moving in the right direction. We have too many players that let themselves be dominated by energy and fight. Hunger beats talent if the talent isn't enormous and it isn't in our case. If this was football manager I would: remove Hutton, Elmo, Taylor, Whelan, Adomah, Bjarnason. Get a CB with leadership skills and a cool head and relieve Chester of the armband (looks uncomfortable). Insert youth, Doyle-Hayes, O'Hare, Hepburn-Murphy and Clark. Rage quit after four hours.

I just want some intelligent, world class long term direction with an emphasis on developing an attractive playing philosophy - with a strong mentality and leadership to back it up with. Also, please start utilising our own youth players more often and more effectively.

Clueless going forward. Created nothing. Defence shaky as expected. No leaders on the pitch. No emotion. Bjarnason is not what we need as a holding midfielder. He does not do the defensive part well enough for me. Just occupies a position. And I blame MON for it all.

Ok so Bruce is in charge and must take the responsibility here. But the period of sustained shitness on our part just before their penalty is on the players. Not mentally up for it. Lame, toothless and no grit. Bruce does the team talk, but the guys on the pitch are not 5 years old and need to put their game face on. J*sus what a limp second half.

Sheff Wed with a deserved win here. We were too sloppy, and as per usual no pattern of play. Bruce might be right that they will be better given time, but I don't see this team gaining any sustained momentum with the current lack of playing philosophy. F**k am I fed up with the ridiculous crossing game. Too much shiny individual stuff, way to little team stuff.

Much MUCH better from us, for most of that game we dominated completely. I think there is a point in the possesion-debate in the fact that in our best one hour of that game Brentford was completely out of tune in their passing game, and made simple errors giving the ball straight back. The point being that although a possesion based style might not always produce more chances it can really reduce the effectiveness of the other team having to start cold after a long spell in defense mode. McGinn is a fantastic player and my motm tonight. Maupay wins the a**hole of the evening award.

I don't like the way we 'play 'at all. We insist on some strange launch-it-aimlessly-down-the-pitch tactic, bypassing our midfielders and very often just giving the ball away. Midfielders don't get involved in the play, and when they randomly do there is no pattern or cohesion among them. Players like JDH - who I think has huge potential - will burn out quickly under these conditions. Grealish can change the dynamic completely but that's more down to him driving the play through his natural ability than Bruce changing the instructions. I just don't get what he's trying to do..
