  1. If Paul McGrath was asked to train harder and refused due to he knew his body, would he have been a disgrace?

Yes but you are the one presuming this thing about their physical limit. Collins was 27 at the time.

My point is more about Dunne, but being 27 doesn't mean he doesn't have limits. What ever was introduced and how it was introduced last time didn't work. Hopefully it has a more positive effect under Garde.

Being a professional athlete is about going past that limit, to be the best you can. It's no good after a few months saying it's too hard, its not good enough.

  2. He doesn't really put himself about nearly as much as Fellaini though. A decent cross into the box and he's useful but his ability to use his size and his hold up play all over the pitch seems pretty poor.

  3. I hope he gives a number of squad players a game. We don't need to be in this competition any more - it's an unwelcome distraction, where injuries and suspensions can occur, and little real chance of winning anything - and the new manager could do with seeing a few players he won't have seen on telly. I don't even care if he picks N'Zogbia for this game.

While I agree to a certain extent, it can't hurt someone else having a go at how they would set the team choosing from the best players we have available for the game. It is a shot for nothing on playing the right system.

  4. The word 'artisan' when describing anything home-made (and expensive)

"We source our delicious sour dough bread from a local artisan bakery'

I'd add 'street food' and to a certain extent 'craft beer' to that as well.

both originally meant something, now they are just use to peddle crap or charge more for it.

  5. After a busy summer I've been stepping up my job hunt again. Revised my CV which sort of worked as I've had a few recruitment agencies get in touch, but that has just been frustrating as the roles have been pretty much the same as what I earn now with no better prospects. Each time the recruiters have seemed surprised I've not been interested in the roles they've had.

Today I got offered an interview for a job I forgot I applied for. Its been a little while since I applied and didn't think I stood a chance when I saw the advert but went for it anyway, so it's a bit of a result I've got this far. I've got a week and a bit to work out how I'm going to go about standing out in the interview as well as not showing some of my inexperience in certain aspects.

  6. This please Timothy, and stop your messing.

That can't be far off our best team, with Ayew being pretty good at tracking back to not make it too attacking. In theory the interlinking between Gil, Ayew and Grealish should threaten any defence and the chance to supply Gestede should get us GAGGing for more.

God knows what he's going to come up with though.

  7. On that note. I wonder if you brought your kid to the pub and they wanted a Becks non-alcoholic, it'd surely be perfectly legal to give them one? It'd be weird and they'd probably hate it, but in theory it could be done? (unless a publican can tell me otherwise)

You would be subject to the same restrictions as if you bought them a pint. Non-alcoholic beer is classed as beer for the purposes of the law (they can have up to 0.05% ABV and still call themselves 'non-alcoholic').

Yes it's over 18's only for non alcoholic beer.

Apparently Erdingers non alcoholic beer is quite nice. Personally though I don't find the appeal and not tried any. Quite happy with a soft drink if need be. I can't say that happens too much though, especially as I've not had a car for a couple of years.

  8. Stoke are a far superior team, avoiding defeat today would be a good result

If Stoke are a far superior team than us, then we are as good as down anyway.

of course they are, league tables don't lie, they have been ahead us for years. We are a bottom 5 team and have been for a while. We are only in the prem because there have been 3 really really shit teams in previous seasons. We are not even a 40 point a season team and won't be this season either

That's the point they aren't 'far superior' the difference between us and Stoke isn't that much. The only difference is a good run of games. I think it's only 13/14 where Stoke weren't really looking over there shoulder at all during a season.

I'm not denying the position we are in. They've been the better team for a while, and this season remains to be seen but far superior is ridiculous, and as I say if they are far superior(this season, not today) we will be relegated.

  9. For various reasons I shouldn't be going today but couldn't resist. On the train now and will get into town just after 6.

Not sure what the weather is like up there but it will be interesting to see how the ref handles the first 10 minutes.

  10. I always find dating a nightmare. I go through spells of trying and likewise the girls I like aren't interested and I'm not interested in the ones that like me. I usually just get really pissed off for various reasons and sack it of for a while.

Getting by with the odd one night stand and a few short lived things, it's been a while since I've been in a proper relationship. I met someone two months ago and for now things seem to be going very well. Still early days but from my experience, while its no good not doing anything about it, don't try too hard and something will come up.

While things are going good at the moment, I'm fully expecting to update this thread having monumentally cocked up or she turns out to be a little crazy :D

Nearly had that monumental cock up in record time, as she's been a bit worried & done a pregnancy test today :o

    Thankfully it was negative.

  12. Got my ticket today. I'm not guaranteed I can go though, it depends on whether I can finish work early Tuesday and start late Wednesday. I'm coming from Bath so will have to stop at parents as I have no way of getting back on the night.

  13. I worked on a bar where a Saturday night regular sometimes poured a glass of red wine into his pint of cider. I've never been tempted to see if he is onto something.

He should have complained about short measures on the cider. emoji6.png

I thought I actually wrote glass in there as well:D You never got away with being short anyway, it had to be brimming to pass without comment.

  14. Word Gets Around by the Stereophonics.

Never be another album like it.

Apart from what ever shit they followed it up with... Sorry I know I upset at least one person here. Stereophonics are at least in the running for the worst band ever though.

I quite liked Word gets around when it came out, but had a couple of mates that never stopped playing it, which ruined it for me.

There aren't many bands from that came out of that era that I have regularly listened to since, apart from SFA. Though I do go back in occasionally for albums & songs that I loved at the time.

Cast are playing in Bath in November so tempted to go see that.

  15. I've started seeing a vet, and it's mostly excellent, I get huge amounts of cute animal photos. But she has 3-4 cases a day of people taking in malnourished animals because they've not been fed properly. Not just anyone should be allowed pets.

My girlfriend works for an animal charity and the main part of her job is regarding re-homing dogs. So I completely agree with you, and from stories of some of the homes she has visited, it should go for children also.

  16. I had it when I was 12. It was shite then. Apparently the older you get it the worse it is, which I guess is why mums used to have chickenpox parties to get their kids infected if one had it.

Actually I don't know if chickenpox parties were a real thing or if I made it up.

45 now and never had it  ... my kids both caught it a few years back so I kinda expected to get the dreaded Shingles but it never materialised   .... but yeah I've heard it can be bad

I don't think you can get shingles without having had chicken pox previously and I'm not sure you can you get shingles from Chicken pox? I know it works the other way round though because when I was about 13 I got shingles and gave my Nan chicken pox as she'd never had it before. I'm certainly no doctor so could be wrong though.
