  1. Tiring indeed when belittling our club is the way to support the manager and arguing against the 8th-12th label is apparently not showing support.
  2. My point is that having an average of 8.4 in the way you've calculated it, doesn't necessarily mean you're 8th/9th. Simple maths. For reference, while our average is 8.4, Tottenham's is 9.4 and Everton's is 11.4. This doesn't make these 3 teams 8th, 9th and 11th, get it?
  3. .... but in the history of the Premier League, 8-12th is a fairly accurate average. Seriously? Check your facts. Not this argument again.. 92/93: 2nd 93/94: 10th 94/95: 18th 95/96: 4th 96/97: 5th 97/98: 7th 98/99: 6th 99/00: 6th 00/01: 8th 01/02: 8th 02/03: 16th 03/04: 6th 04/05: 10th 05/06: 16th 06/07: 11th 07/08: 6th 08/09: 6th 09/10: 6th I said "fairly accurate" which, in my opinion, it is. If you average it out properly it will probably give you a result of something like 6th-10th (I haven't worked it out, I'm just guessing). I don't believe this is the correct way to judge the average position, the all time premier league table is a better reflector IMO. Case in point, Chelsea, if you're calculating their average positions during the premier league you'd get 5.17, yet they're clearly not the 5th/6th when it comes to the success they've had during that period.

  5. Truth is, if he's lost the dressing room, there'd be only one way for him and the club. Now, obviously, we don't know if he has, but we can't bury our heads in the sand and not see the indications. If it's true, then I don't see how and why the players would do their best to beat West Brom and Wigan to save him, they simply wouldn't play for him.
  6. Would be a good squad player - however i said that about Steve Sidwell Would back-up Albrighton nicely for cup games, yep.
  7. No shots on goal, 0 chances, totally outplayed and outhustled by sha at Villa Park, thought these days were over.
  8. Same old? We used to regularly get points from games like this one. Agree it's shocking not to have a single shot on goal after going down 2-1 in the 75th minute.
  9. A well deserved point, we fought hard and got a result against this brilliant opponent :?
  10. KMacs choice. Not AVFCs, Heskeys or Houlliers. Erm.. what? Is there anything that's AVFCs choice or fault then?
  11. Unique in being left managerless 5 days before the season. Unique in not having our new manager for an unknown period. Unique in delaying the kit release. How many unique things do we need to understand it's not actually unique at all, it's just the way the club's being run at the moment.
  12. Considering the alternatives, I'm happy with this appointment ( as long as Phil Thompson is not part of it ). Obviously, would have prefered Moyes but he wasn't available and apparently we have actually tried for him, so this is good enough for me. TBF I expected a worse manager to be named, so yea, I voted happy. I have my reservations, but I'll gladly give him my support 100% and wait to see how it goes from here. Good luck to him. UTV!
  13. What did he say about that prick Ginola? If it was suitably derogatory it further endears me to him too. When Houllier was France manager, Ginola gave possession away cheaply which resulted in France conceding a goal and not qualifying for the World Cup (boo hoo, diddums cheating French words removed but I digress...). Houllier called him a criminal in an interview after the match. In the 93rd minute against Bulgaria in 1993. A draw would have been enough for France to qualify for 1994 World Cup.
  14. We can fill 600 pages more with 'I hate Phil Thompson' only
  15. I hate Phil Thompson with a passion, his name should never be in the same sentence with Aston Villa. Still hope this is not true rocket polisher
  16. VdV is certainly a good player, albeit past his best IMO, but when Wenger or Mourinho get rid of players, there is always a good reason why.
  17. Nah, I don't believe any ITKs, you're most likely wrong as well
  18. lol from Luis Fabiano to Ryan Babel in a day?! I know we're in a pretty strange situation ourselves but this is hilarious
  19. lets assume, that we cannot get Moyes, Hughes or Jol. IF not KM who would you take? It's strikes me that some people would be happy with anyone but KM. Name names as your alternative, so we can see how they smell Just like when we can't get Bent or Huntelaar, we settle for Heskey
  20. I'd be happy if all of the Jimmy money go to Everton as a compensation for Moyes and there are no new signings this season. Doubtful though.
  21. The piece was written by RichardCanning. Sorry, missed it.
  22. Totally agree, BOF. I have always thought that in order to break into the top 4 we'd need 2 things to go our way - one of the sky 4 to have a bad season ( according to their standards ), coinciding with Villa overachieving. Let's not kid ourselves - we haven't had a squad good enough for top 4, we've been in the battle because of the good foundations, strong spine and team spirit, not because we've had the class to even be in that fight. We just couldn't overachieve enough to crack the door open, but we were never deserving to be there, based on the quantifiable things - revenue, class, ability to attract players and sponsors, etc. Last summer we lost our captian in Martin Laursen through injury, our previous captain, Barry and a very important defensive player - Bouma. Arguably 3 of the top 5 performers we had until that point. Few thought we'd be able to push on and become even better but we did. IMO this was an extremely overlooked achievement. We did it not because we had bought top class replacements, but through team spirit, blood and guts, not class. Then Man City came and we know what happened. Obviously we can't compete with their spending power and IMO by losing O'Neill we've lost the man who built this squad and who was able to consistently get the best results out of the quality we had. Thus losing the one thing that we've had over our rivals - commitment and team spirit. I understand the man has a lot of flaws, but no one could blame the team for not giving all they had week in week out. Now, the replacement manager will be up for a difficult job to match and exceed Martin's achievements. Not because they wouldn't be good enough ( don't want to get into a fight over who the better manager is ), but because they would need the time to rebuild the squad according to their vision and we don't seem to have the needed funds to do that.
