  1. hang fire until saturday evening fella. we might have turned'em over a couple of times by then in a couple of important egg chasing games. and they're not too much cop at football either. true, although Toohey's is quite nice
  2. not really the place to go into it here fella. Arrogance & superiority & ignorance, mainly. Would develop these thoughts, but not here. not saying this is true of all American citizens, as it plainly isn't, it's just a pervading feeling of the country as a whole. didn't realise my kermit avatar was endorsing the USA  . I apologise profusely. I'll have to quit my job as well, as i can't use any of these American things i'm currently working with like the various Microsoft applications and spss etc  I'll have to stop watching most TV shows as well. Damn it, i'll just have to admit it. America's great, innit  Oh, to expand on the main theme of this thread, if it ain't football related, then beating the USA in the ryder cup for me takes it
  3. USA not football related, just hate the country and all it stands for tbh. is this thread about football though, as you haven't specified. if it's football, i'd go for either germany or argentina .

    Following On...

went for Angel on his own for the everton game. we may need to pack the midfield, so i'd go with JPA on his tod up front with a midfield of veryone else who's left: nobby, lee, gav, davis and whitts. hammer on the bench with CC and Luke. let's not play into their hands and let them win the midfield battle .......
  5. You quite like you're left footed players then Paul
  6. ^^^ isn't that 3 favourites :?
  7. Gareth Barry for me. No, i'm not taking the p*ss. Ever since i saw his debut (away v sheff weds i think some years ago) i could see the guy oozed class, even at 17. And he's been virtaully an ever present since that day, be it at centre half as one of three, left back, centre mid or left mid. And in all honesty, you could count the number of "really bad" games he's had on one hand (although a lot of them may have come this season). I still think he's played Ok this season, certainly better than Tommy Hammer, although he is getting much more stick than the German. perhaps that says more baout the standards he had previously been setting. and he's quicker than people think he is. I'd like to see the stats for Villa players sprinting say 40 yards. I'd say he was much quicker than McCann. Put simply, gareth has the skills to pay the bills, and along with Lee, Nobby & JPA forms the more skillful element of the side.
  8. ^^^ you been on the beers early today Drat? WTF, the sun's shining here, i'll join you. 2-1 Villa
  9. What's Postma got to do with this poll, Brian
  10. 4 people have voted for "who is the better player/defender" that'd be difficult to get on the back of a shirt voted for Kum by Ah, My Lord. Ollie is getting there, but he's made a few mistakes and cannoy yet challenge for macca's crown. If Ollie has another 2 or 3 great seasons for us then he would indeed be challenging for the mantle. But not yet ....
  11. Nah, I'm clever me, would have to be university (universally?) challenged. To be one dimensional for a minute, I voted for the "invisible man". Tommy Hammer has been poor this season, poorer than Barry for me, who had a shocker V WBA but other than that hasn't been THAT bad, although didn't see yesterday's game so can't comment on that.
  12. Ollie for quality over a number of seasons. JPA close second, although I would wait to see how well he comes back from the knee injury TBH
  13. ditto Pete. agree with all of these points, including the Mrs T one. and like Al says, it's difficult to talk about wasted talent without mentioning SVC. Whilst Yorkie DID waste his talent, this was only after winning the treble with the Red Scum, so to a great extent he did also use his talent and realise his potentail up to that point. Wasted it thereafter obviously ......... nobody's mentioned Ansell
  14. maybe Lee instead of Tommy Hammer? wouldn't want to oust Nobby TBH. It's amazing how a player can improve in our eyes without actaully playing for a couple of games! Not many would've had L'il Lee in at the start of the season as first choice, but now ......
  15. yeah, he scares the sh*t out of me
  16. went for no, although SmellP*ss usually pulls something out of the bag if he feels he is under pressure and it will deflect criticism. the wrong reasons for a signing, although something may just happen ....
  17. that's the aussie outback for you. all those bush fires .......... it's been pretty civil on here for a while now
  18. Digressing again Rob, I'm more taken with Rose Magowan. Used to drool over Shannen D as well before they killed her off. Holly Marie Combs doesn't really do it for me. Neither does Leo
  19. one of the best bands of the 80s. too many great songs to mention. If anyone ever watches "Charmed", they nicked the them tune to that from The Smith's. But i won't digress onto that subject, as i'd be salivating all day
  20. my only real gripe with Dazz is that he doesn't score enough goals. In fact, for all of his good work, he doesn't look like scoring a lot of the time. voted for dazz though. If he could add goals to his armoury he would be an absolute gem. He has pace and skill and strength. Just don't think Beattie would work well with JPA. Unless JPA's injury is worse than we are being told, in which case this signing makes more sense
  21. i'd go for the YAK, as he'd be a better partner for JPA. For me, Beattie is OK, but weould be a replacement for JPA, not his partner. For the record however, I think Dazz Vass and Charlton Cole are just as good as the pair of 'em, although Beattie does have an excellent Premiership scoring record. Beattie would work well with Dazz Vass and Cole. Can't think we could afford either of 'em though TBH
  22. agree with Kiddy - this is difficult to say until we've seen Berson play. however, Assuming Berson is as good as some poeple seem to think he is on here, then it would be a case of horses for courses depending upon the opposition, whether home or away etc away against Arse, Utd etc - I would play Berse & Gav Home v Bolton , Palace etc - Berse/Gav & Hammer but at least we have some options. L'il Lee might figure somwehere as well
  23. I'd take the Arse to piss the league once more. Manure to revive to finish 2nd. Liverpool to have a good season. Chelsea and Barcodes to suffer. Some surprises from midtable, us, Noses, Boro, Spurs etc .... Chelsea still top 5 though, but i think mourinho has a tough job on, tougher than Benitez IMO, to get all of his players gelling instantly. It's half a new team he'll be putting out come the first game .......
  24. ^^^ well James, they have got enough players to field 2 first teams that are better than most sides first 11! Prem League wouldn't be too happy though ............
  25. went for between 5th and 8th. With a BIG proviso. Injuries. Our squad is far too thin in key areas. A lot depends on the state of JPA's knee - this worries me greatly. What if we don't get Berson and Gav gets injured/suspended - who's the holding midfieder? what if Ollie or Laursen get a bad injury? If we have a clear run on the injury front I think we've got a good chance of 5th/6th - all the way down to 8th. If we have bad luck with injuries, we're looking at mid table or slightly lower. Don't see us flirting with relegation under this manager though, even with the worst of luck.
