  1. That system reminded of the one MON used when he arrived, playing Luke Moore on the left of a forward 4-3-3 line. Moore clearly was not enamoured with this but he did OK until he was injured. Today's player has to be adaptable across the front line. I'm pretty sure Houllier will tweak the formation as we often look light in midfield. Someone will loose out and players will have to be able to make the most of whatever chances they get.
  2. Just on the Fonz — if Kev MacDonald says he is not playing well enough at the moment then I think we should beleive him!
  3. He's certainly the best qualified manager we've ever had!
  4. Houllier is no mug. He won't commit his views to press until he has had time to look around a bit!
  5. He seems to me to be a good appointment, at least better than most that were practically possible at this time. He has a record of success, is a well respected coach and is an intelligent man. He will know what he is letting himself in for and I suspect will be more realistic about the current financial realities of the Premier League. I wish him well.
  6. Without being dramatic about it I think Everton have to be favourites for the game. Against Newcastle we thought we'd walk it, still thought that after they scored and by the time we realised what was happening it was too late. There were signs on Wed of how good Ireland can be, but we need Gabby to be fit. Carew is frightening nobody at the moment and let's not even think about Heskey!
  7. Alan Shearer! God help us! He could do the job with Alan Hansen and then everything would be guaranteed to work out!
  8. He didn't seem desperate at all. A pretty intelligent and sensible guy it seemed to me.
  9. Interesting game with the youngsters. Guzan — really didn't make me feel confident at all Lichaj — OK and no more Davies — looked poor to me, was pulled all over the place and bad in the air. Not sure he has a future with us now. Beye — better than Davies considering he doesn't play much Hogg — workman like Reo Coker — works hard, terrible touch on the bal, gave ball away too much (as normal really) Bannon — everywhere first half, knackered by second, but good performance Albrighton — caused them a lot of problems.
  10. Sven has a track record of winning things. And his management of England suddenly doesn't look that bad. His first year with City was good — he just fell out with the crook that owned the place. In his career he has dealt with clubs that didn't have big money. He might be the sensible short term appointment. Would he be more risky than Bradley? We need somebody quickly and it might have to be a stop-gap!
  11. NRC – great guy but simply not good enough for top 4 !
  12. At his best Carew is a great player to watch. But he's not fit, not mobile and not fit enough regularly enough to get match fit. We do need one or two new forwards to take the pressure off Gabby, but then every premier team needs forwards!
