Of the youth team that won the cup, I expected only Ramsey, Chuk and Kessler to go on and make it at a high level with Barry playing at League 1 level or Champ at best. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ll all be playing elsewhere. Fine, I guess, but would have been nice to see one of them breakthrough.

At least they are all playing at a decent level instead of hanging about here untile their mid 20’s and not playing.

Anthony Taylor is corrupt. He's compromised. Simple as that. The two blatant penalties he doesn't give us versus Sheffield United, then gives two dodgy ones for Plop and that one for Chelsea.

He should never referee at top level ever again.

The corruption  is blatant why isn’t it being called out?

They’ve done very good business judging from that.

Isak and Gordon might not be “bargains” - but have both justified their fee.

Botman and Bruno have surely increased their value. Livramento is also looking like a very shrewd signing, even at that price.

Trippier and Pope are bargains at that price considering the level (until very recently) they’ve both been playing at.

Only shockers on there are Wood (but not sure how much they recouped from Forest? Most of it?) and Tonali (largely out of their hands due to the unforeseeable betting scandal - and could still come good).

Willock isn’t a bad player at all, and would probably be in their first XI. Maybe a slight overpay in isolation, but was instrumental in them getting CL football.

The signings haven’t been poor but it’s all a bit Martin O’Neil ish a premium for English players. Shrewd business is picking up Kamara on a free and Douglas Luiz for 15m.

    isnt he a slum landlord

Yeah It’s a story that surfaced a few years ago isn’t it. It’s likely he invested in property years ago when football wasn’t a multi billion sport and probably advises by financial experts to do so like many it’s also likely and probable that the business is handled by someone else , I don’t think Steve Bruce goes knocking door to door asking for rent 🤣. But this is in no way or form a defence  of Steve the living conditions of some if his tenants were un-excusable.

    How much more?

Would you sign him for £25m at the end of the season?

Makes more sense than when we signed Coutinho when you really take time to think about it logically.

Really good summary. Same as Lee Trundle who was still ripping it up at Ammanford up until last year. Had made his money, was massively overweight and could still destroy defences in the JD Cymru South.

I wondered about the context of the move for Young: his previous loan experiences were at Carlisle (League 2 at the time?) and Ayr (Scottish Championship?). Did he run out of options when his contract at Villa expired, so there were no other offers in the football league in England or Scotland? Or did he think that scoring a bucketload at TNS would secure him a move elsewhere long term? Maybe it's situational and he thought he could be relatively close to family if he went to Oswestry rather than further afield? Do Villa have conversations with these players to help them make their next steps?

The purpose of me asking all of these questions I'll never know the answer to is it goes to show how precarious these younger footballers' career are: he has a couple dozen matches in the lower leagues on loan, doesn't make it and he ends up playing with semi pros in JD Cymru Premier. Maybe you just find your level? Fair play to him for taking this opportunity, mind!

I think the location definitely played it’s part,  commutable close to family, that’s one thing a friend of mine takes into consideration is that the club he plays for is within an hour and a half from home he’s self employed and does odd jobs here and there to supplement his income as long as he’s within a local proximity bouncing about working here and there is possible. I think a ideal scenario for Brad Young would be to end up at somewhere like Solihull Moors eventually. I think the club did well by him and prepared him for level that he was destined to play at.

Sad state of affairs… I miss the Serie A of the 90s and many of those incredible players… the decline has been fairly severe…

It was the Super league at one time. Serie A only have themselves to blame unfortunately, in La liga on the other hand  it’s all Barca and Real Madrid greed at fault.

Despite efforts to improve the league, the standard in the JD Cymru Premier is poor. TNS average something like 3 and a half goals a match this season: same last season.

Keep in mind that Ryan Brobbel is equal top scorer for TNS with Young, a man who failed to make it in the English lower leagues. Hope Young has a higher ceiling.

Yeah it’s a semi pro league and despite that it’s come a long way from muddy pitch and hoofing the ball from one end of the pitch to the other and heading it back , I know quite a few that play at that level at the end of the day the wages aren’t good enough to fully commit time and effort into football most the players I know have a full time job alongside the football  barring players like Dave Edwards who have played at the top level and made their money , young players like Brad Young often struggle with the transition but he’ll just have to stick at it and hopefully he might work his way to playing in at a slightly higher level in the future.

Why does the club put up with this. We pay for his life not his country. Injured all season but magically better for the national team. Its a massive piss take isn't it.

If he's too injured to play for villa then he can't play for his national team. That or he's lying about his injury to Villa.

Emery doesn’t fancy him he’s been available numerous times but hasn’t been selected or even been brought on with a few minutes to spare. Bert has given us more than enough but he isn’t good enough his contract will run out soon , there’s nothing wrong with him going to represent his Country.

Wasn’t he signed on a Bosman after his WBA contract expired?

Yes good business. It’s profit no matter how small and it also proves to other players that may join us that we’ll develop and find you a career in football even if you won’t ever feature for Villa’s first team.

  11. Overreacting in this thread , he was a “baller” “beast” a few weeks ago. He’s a good defender is he better than Konsa or Pau no but a good defender nonetheless. Obviously has flaws but will be fine once Pau & Kamara returns.

I think we need to take a breath. Newcastle just lost back to back games against Luton and Forest.

Man U are great one week and shit the other.

    Spurs have ups and downs.

This is our first real blip and it comes after beating City and arsenal. If we'd got a draw with arsenal, lost to city and then beat Sheffield United and Man United would we all be ok? Same points just different way round.

There's 5 teams fighting for top 4. We are one of them. Torres and Kamara will be back soon and I'm sure we will make at least 1 signing in January.
