It's the ceiling - he has a bit of everything about him, including great physical attributes, and if you can develop a player like that, you're laughing.

Yup don’t see why people can see this with Duran. Different players of course but both have great physical attributes which is well and truly needed for the premier league .

Absolutely, but you have to take recent form into account. We've been very good since the start of 2023, but that isn't what's going to get us over the finish line. We need to get back to more consistent performances. Honestly, I think we've been fortunate on the road a few times this season.

I think we’ve also been unfortunate (no penalty vs Everton) the fortunate bit levels out imo the scum 6 teams get the majority of decisions in their favour.

We’re not getting close to Liverpool or Man City - especially with Doku and De Bruyne back now.

Arsenal are better than us but look fragile. Spurs are as good as us and have Maddison coming back.

If you had a gun to my head, I’d say we’ll finish 5th. I don’t think we’ll make the top 4.

Cue the, ‘Oh my god you’re such a bed wetter’ posts.

We have a chance of making the top 4 but 5th would be an excellent season regardless.

The signing didn't really make sense last year and still doesn't really IMO. He needs to be playing more but he is clearly at the moment not as good as Watkins and we only play one up front.

A season-long loan at a decent championship club would test his development. I wouldn't read too much into JPA. Yes they both from the same city in Columbia but not sure how much they have in common as Angel is probably old enough to be his dad.

I think you will struggle with the type of business we do going forward.

I trust him but it's very interesting that Emery would be focusing our limited resources on this player.

Interesting but unsurprising this is classic Unai Emery & Monchi

What an assist!! Thought he was rubbish boro/philogene lovers ?

Can see why we’re after him he isn’t the typical run at defences and flashy skill gets the crowd on the edge of their seat type player . Don’t get me wrong bags of technical ability but he’s also tidy in possession and good positionally a system player.

My Boro supporting mate reckons he’s nowhere near the level of Ramsey or Archer. He reckons he’s only playing at the moment because of the number of injuries they have.

But developed physically better than them and has only started to flourish in the last 6 months I suppose you could call him a late bloomer compared to Archer and Ramsey it’s often good player with a smaller build like Ramsey and Archer look amazing at championship level but average in the premier league.

Is Dublin bad now? I lived there 12 years, never had a problem

I mean there’s nice areas and rough areas certain areas in Dublin have always been bad. It’s a bit like saying I lived in Birmingham for 12 years with no hassle having never step foot in Handsworth 🤣.

  9. A quote from the boro forum

I've been one of Rogers' biggest fans since we signed him so while I'm not surprised that he's attracting interest from the likes of Aston Villa, I'm surprised that it's so early into his development as he needs far more experience in the Championship before he's ready to make that sort of move. It's only in the past 6 weeks or so that things have clicked for him so he needs to focus on his development and ignore unhelpful distractions like this. I'd like to think it's nothing that a new contract couldn't solve.

He's only 6 months into a 4 year deal so he can't exactly kick up a fuss if we reject Villa's offers. There's no sensible logic in cashing out early when you know you've signed a player with brilliant potential and they're developing well. We're in a strong position so we need to take advantage of it. I'm imagining any temptation to sell Rogers will come down to whether the offer gets to a high level where Scott thinks he could make the funds go a long way with targets linked up in priority positions who we could otherwise miss the boat on. We're a bit overloaded with wide players and #10's so it's an area that we're well prepared to sell a player. Whereas we're light in areas like strike and have long-term targets like Cresswell at CB who we can't currently afford.

In terms of the price for selling Rogers, Ramsey had a good 3 months with us that was interrupted by his recurring muscle injuries before being sold to Burnley for £12 millions. Rogers doesn't have any recurring injury concerns and has far more potential than Ramsey so I don't see any reason why we can't demand that fee as an absolute minimum. Rogers is a unique profile with his size, power, mobility and technical ability so is a far more niche profile to develop into a top quality Premier League player and even England international, especially compared to someone like Ramsey or any other typical young winger like him. Add in the January premium then you could easily demand more than what they sold Ramsey for. The supposed offers of £4 million and £6 million are derisory so I hope Scott tells them to either get serious with their offers or stop trying to unsettle our player.

Agreed.  It feels like any signing would be a bonus rather than a necessity.  We could use a couple of extra options from the bench (who might in turn stake a claim for a starting spot) but a couple of players returning from injury / hitting form might give us those options anyway.  More to the point - if we don't sign anyone I will believe it is because (a) the manager is relatively happy with the players available and (b) the recruitment team thoroughly assessed the options available and concluded that better business could be done in the summer.  It is so refreshing to believe that we have a really competent recuitment team making considered decisions that are fully aligned with our coaches and manager.

Yes we’re already planning 2-3 years ahed now and not reacting to situations, we are happy to spend on a ready made player like we did with Pau & Diaby in the summer but also clever enough to wait for potential bargains like Tielemans and the rumours that we are in talks with Hermoso it’s just sensible business all round.

Can see it being pitched more towards the international market so I’m sure with Heck & Edens and now Comcast connections someone will pick it up … Prince William and George being fans poss along with Tom Hanks will attract attention from a US Network I’m sure. Also wouldn’t discount the Martinez influence in Argentina.

Maybe the uk market will be harder sell and will perhaps be direct to viewer purchase. As Heck said he is looking beyond the UK For growth and what better way than this.

I think our best bet is to target growth in fans beyond the UK the UK is to heavily influenced by the media a team like Villa isn’t supposed to be popular or competitive by their standards. I think fans outside the UK won’t be as heavily influenced in to who to like.

All these players arent in good form and he can barely get sub minutes. Either he isnt very good or Arteta hasnt a clue

I think it’s quite obvious Arteta hasn’t a clue look at the money he’s spent and keeps on spending he stumbled across Saliba (Emery signing) if it wasn’t for injures he I don’t think he would have been in Arteta’s plans. The goalkeeper position has been a shambles sold 2 good keepers in Leno & Martinez for worse. Declan Rice for Xhaka? No improvement . The amount of money he’s thrown at it in comparison to what Emery or any team since is staggering. It doesn’t surprise he has no idea what to do with ESR but saying that I don’t think it’s a signing we should be making that ship sailed long ago we shouldn’t be taking a chance on reviving a career that never really took off in the first place.

Yep I feel he will be replacing Bailey as the punching bag

I think people need to get a grip and accept people from different backgrounds and cultures express themselves differently. He came on and was a whisker away from scoring the winner.  He wasn’t signed as a ready made starter we signed him to develop him.

  14. Our youth crop and English/European football youth players in general are surrounded by professionals from a young age their expectations are managed and presented realistically also. Duran didn’t have that luxury during his development. His temperament and body language isn’t a big worry he looks like a nightmare to play against he got in Mykolenko’s head from the minute he hit the pitch. He definitely has some growing up to do but I think everyone is reading into it a bit to much.
