Hes a very solid PL left back, just because he doesn't suit the way Gerrard wants the full backs to play it doesn't mean that he has suddenly become a bad player. Very sensible signing by them, which is annoying

    Correct. Very unlike Newcastle.

Burn is also a sensible signing.

I was expecting signings like Balotelli and George Weah's cousin

How about Phil King against Inter Milan?

Probably the only game I missed that season so would be nice to go back and score the winning penalty.

Ray Houghtons goal in normal time in the same game had Villa Park absolutely rocking.

Pagliuca was sick of him at that stage. He lobbed him at the World Cup a few months earlier.

I know its obvious but we would never have signed this guy had Gerrard not been charge. People always talk about how great players dont necessarily become great managers but this is one of the huge advantages.

One of the biggest coups in Villa's history this.

The biggest without question I would say.

Huge statement. Lets hope it works out

  4. Of the players linked so far I'd love to see us make a move for Doig from Hibs.

Looks a really promising left back and Targett really needs some more competition.

I personally think if we sign Doig now he'll be first choice at the start of next season

  5. He's almost certainly played his last game for us given the way we've progressed.

As others have said though I really hope he has a great career.

The likes of Rotherham should they get promoted, or any lower Championship team would really suit him.

We have grit that was certainly lacking. We looked rutterless under Deano without Grealish.

Still can’t shake the fact that someone said SG has Lego hair. He absolutely does.

Unfortunately was pipped to first place in the Ballon d'Or Lego Hair award by Mikel Arteta.

Danny Murphy cast the deciding vote and couldn't live with himself if he gave it to a Villan.

Paul McGrath was joint 26th in 1993 according to Wikipedia at a time when there was just the Ballon D'Or.

25 lads should hold their heads in shame knowing they placed above the real winner

Only seen the 4:30 min clip Sky showed on Youtube. I'm trying to work out if someone has died???? That didn't look too comfortable for Gerrard or Puslow. Puslow looked like he'd been crying, Gerrard looked pretty nervous. I hope it ended better.

Thought he looked and sounded nervous too but that can't be a bad thing.

It's a massive opportunity and he seems desperate to succeed.

I hope and think he will too

He looks like that Paul Hollywood bloke off the baking show.

Can see there being a few issues to sort out around the backroom team.

Mind you, Noel Fielding as set piece coach couldn't be any worse than what we have currently

Given the overwhelming against Gerrard being manager across a lot of the Villa fan base, I cant see how you think he is going to build a connection with Villa fans.  Only McLeish has received more backlash in recent decades being linked and we saw how that went when he did become our manager.

To be fair to McLeish (and I'm no fan of his as a manager) he came in at a completely different time and wasn't backed by the board at all.

Any manager taking the job now has a bigger budget than we've ever been able to offer a manager before so there would be no excuse for failure.

Just hope that whoever it is that takes it is given a fair chance by our support and I genuinely think they will be.

No they aren't are main rivals. And no he wouldn't be as unpopular as McLeish.

If any due dillegence has been done. Im sure Houlliers time at villa would crop up.

I do feel there's still a bit of needle between the two clubs. The motd pundits rarely have much good to say about villa for example.

Fair point. I suppose it would be on him to win over the doubters.

Still not convinced he'd take it but if he did we'd forget any previous rivalry quick enough if he started getting decent results.

I think Saunders was out of work though.

I don't see Gerrard leaving rangers to walk into a club where a proportion of the fan base won't give him a chance.

I see your point but I think even people on here who are dead against the idea of him becoming manager would support him if he got the job.

Granted he might not be given as much time as a Villa hero but I don't think there'd be an element of hatred like when McLeish got the job.

I could be wrong but it's not as if Liverpool are our main rivals (or Rangers for that matter 😃)
