Thats an interesting point. Jack said in one interview how they always roomed together when they were younger and they still go on holidays together (with Maddison.) We all know there are office politics in every walk of life. Football is no exception. Southgate is human and he's not going to just pick people purely on performance. He has his favorites and lads that is wary of giving too much exposure.

Thats quite simply untrue. Why the need to make up stuff and be revisionist yourself? People knew Germany are nothing like they have been in the past, however folks are aware that they are usually pretty good at staying in tournaments.

A major contributing factor to the 2 semi's he's reached has been the easy draw. IMO that is the largest factor in his success. By the way he hasn't doubled the amount of times we reached a semi - we did it 66, 90 & 96.

That is a factual statement. But look at the teams they have had to beat to do that. That was why the Germany win was so big - it was the first decent country Southgate has actually beaten in tournament football. Although a pretty poor vintage for Germany. In the past tournaments we have gone out to Brazil, Portugal, Italy, a good German team. Southgate has never come up against a team like that (apart from Croatia at the 2018 WC) and he lost. You can only beat what is put in front of you but I do think he's been lucky with the draws he's had.

I remember the 1st game at Villa Park after Euro '96. We got a penalty and the crowd started singing for Southgate to take it. He smiled and shook his head as he stood if the center circle - so he heard it and felt the love from the Villa fans. (Yorke took it and scored.)
