I suspect this will be one of those mysteries which only makes sense after everything is done and dusted. Like the Usual Suspects. Or perhaps not even then - like Twin Peaks.

I can see us looking to loan Tammy, with a view to a permanent move. That will get around FFP this summer, and Chelsea need to reduce their squad, and it seems is 3th or 4th choice there for a single place. Ditto Axel - esp. as he needs game time. It seems his contract is up next year, but Man Utd have an option for a further year. I think this intent signals departures, and with FFP - some one like El Ghazi leaving could be great. Say we get £15m, that probably puts us up £12m on FFP, given he joined for about £6.5m and on a 4-year deal would have depreciated to about £3 now. Conor might be another £3-5m. Every bit helps!

I can't quite make my mind up if the time this is taking is good or bad with regards Jack staying. I suspect the Kane situation has thrown a spanner in the works, and if Man City are suddenly less keen on him because of the heightened opportunity to get Kane, then that should tell him everything he needs to know about how he would be viewed there - just another player. If there is an agreement that he could leave of £100m - either it's been met or not. I think the cash + player element is easy to dismiss, but if the payment terms are being debated, this could really piss Jack off and make him think we are moving the goal posts. I suspect both sides would want this sorted very quickly because of knock on effects, and the more reliable press comments have suggested this. Can't help but feel we have to know by tomorrow night as it makes such a massive difference to the clubs plans for the completion of the transfer window.

I think it's positive that he's back in with the squad - he is clearly well liked, and loves his work, so that is another pull on the heart strings. It will very much depend on what Jack says, I suspect. If he stays, and comes out with a "I am never going to leave; I am living my dream; this club has so much ambition" in a Totti-esque quote, then it can quieten down and everybody can interpret that to suit themselves. This. Except I do blame him. He would have chosen to become 'just another Man City player' rather than a Villa legend. If he progresses, then he could become a PL and England legend, which may well make up for it for him. But if he moves - does he become the standout PL player for the next 5 years? Or does he become Fabian Delph. Also - kinda can't wait for the Man City home game. I wonder about Matty Cash's first tackle. Context... It appears the first bid we have received is £100m. Unless there is a clause of agreement, we are under no obligation to accept. In my most humble of opinion, this suggests we could be looking at something like £120m is we choose to sell. That is a lot of money. Jack is talismanic, being local and certainly the flavour of the month. He will attracts players. But he does miss a lot of games, and despite him being generally brilliant, it's not like his stats are world class. With £120m, we could add another Buendia type player to play on the left (I have no idea) and Bailey (assuming he is a primary target), and go and get someone like Ward-Prowse. And we'd still have our original summer budget left (less the £40m for Emi). Platt left - I was heartbroken. And we improved the team massively and finished 2nd. One tactic the club could employ would be to say to Jack - we don't want you to leave, so you're not for sale at any price. If you want to leave, then put in a transfer request. This wold put Jack in a really hard position, as he knows it'll massively tarnish his legacy at the club he loves. Plus - I believe that a transfer request would mean he relinquishes certain payments in his contract (not ITK, just a standard clause to breakup a contract if the club chooses to, rather than the player). If he asks to leave - it doesn't change the fee we ask for, though.
