  1. Maybe the club are trying to bury bad news.

In all seriousness, I still quite like Baker, if he has a sustained run in the team without injuries he could do a job. Many hopped Clark gone last season, I still think Baker is a more natural centre back.

  2. Having looked at the stats and clips of Veretout and Gueye they look miles better in the middle and better balanced than Delph and Westwood/Sanchez. I think they can open up more formations as Delph and Westwood struggled when they we went 2 in the middle. They open up the double pivot, even a flat 4. We haven't had that since Petrov and Milner really.

  3. Yes Hendrie was better than Delph.

no Hendrie :o Guy was a very good player and some of people never acknowledge that for some reason because of his attitude

I went for pure centre mids I'm not sure Hendrie was one more a ACM like Merson who I never put either and would piss over Delph.

    Platt was too really.

Not really he was box to box.

  5. Pretty much Lex. If a striker spends 90 minutes doing nothing else but touches the ball 5 times and scores a hattrick were they shit or did they do their job?

Did their job IMO. We were fine with Bent until he stopped scoring goals, that's when it became a problem and we wanted rid.

I think you answered your own point then.

  6. He isn't even in the top 3 CM's I've seen leave Villa, Barry, Milner and Sid were all far better players than him.

for me he wasnt even as good as a player of Hitzlsperger

IMO he was better than Hitz, not that that's anything to boast about.

  7. Apart from a few years in the 90s when it was United, its always and probably always be Liverpool, I hate that club to the core.

West Ham however are up there. Having them shites running the club and somehow getting an almost free stadium and wanky fans puts them in the top 6 definitely.

  8. I'm fairly confident that he'd deliver as much as Benteke did in terms of goals if he's our leading forward this season, he won't have the same level of impact on a game for us, but I'm sure he will be scoring around the 12 goal mark in the league.

In the short term he's a good signing for us, the only thing I'd be cautious about is the structure of the deal. Anything more than £5m is too much, and the contract length shouldn't be more than a couple of years.

I agree I think he would do ok short term. I wouldn't offer him a deal past that though even if he was a success.

  9. I'm not really interested in what Carragher says, I'm not interested in what Benteke does at Liverpool. He's there player now and we have to move on. We were only ever a stepping stone for him anyway and but for that injury he might have left a year ago.

Yeah if we spend the money wisely improve I really don't care either.

  10. Go away with your positivity guys. Until we sign some more quality including a striker, which you have to admit as days go on looks less an less likely. We are yet again firm relegation candidates.

It'll have to be a huge turn around for Lerner to spend 40-50 million, even if it is from transfers. He has always had money, just refused to spend it!!

Apart from the 90m of his own he put into the club in the MON days..

We could end up with Austin, Huddlestone and Tom Carroll (loan).

If that was it in this window what would you think?

    Naff

It means nothing if you don't invest in a team for 5 years and battle relegation year after year and cut more and more after a failed gamble.

  11. We now have 5/6 positions covered in the team in my opinion ready for the season. That still leaves 5 or 6 more needed to make an impression on the league. It's not impossible.

GK - Guzan  (I think Bunn will be decent cover so fair enough signing)

    RB -

    CB - Richards

    CB - Clark

    LB - Amavi

RM -       (possibly Bacuna if he steps up but I still think we can do better)

    CM -

    CM - Gueye

    LM - Sinclair

STR -      (one of these slots will probably taken by Gil or Grealish but we still need two new strikers)

    STR -

The empty positions are what I'd be going after. A lot to do but I think we could still have a strong team this season.

I would still prefer a centre back and use Richards as a right back...but that might not be the plan.
