  1. But I expect you would have said the same thing for Man City and Arsenal before we beat them both. Will enjoy returning to this post when we beat Liverpool.
  2. Awful game. I am only glad I don’t have to support Everton week in week out playing rubbish, thuggish, football like that. We got better once the subs came on but we still haven’t cracked how to break down these teams defending in depth. Very glad Diaby didn’t get a broken - or very badly damaged - leg from that tackle. How the ref ended up booking 4 of our players and only 1 of theirs I have no idea. (Apart from the general fact he was useless.) Positives were Moreno ruling the left wing and a good performance by Lenglet, who seems to be the current Villatalk whipping boy judging by the pre-match thread (having taken over the role from Torres). Thought we defended well apart from a short period towards the end of the first half when we might have conceded but for Martinez - another star performer today. Not very happy with 1 point - we really should have been able to get all 3 - but it’s better than nothing. A game best forgotten.
  3. Definitely giving the match thread a miss today. The readiness of you guys to write the team off is shocking.
  4. Three first teamers is an awful lot to integrate quickly into a team that’s is already quite hit and miss and a bit chaotic. Will be fun to watch but it will be quite an achievement if things settle down before March/April.
  5. I don’t really think Newcastle have a serious hope of getting a CL spot. Would rather they had taken points off City tbf.
  6. The really exciting thing is that level of expectation could be very oppressive for the players but in fact they seem to love it and respond well.
  7. Same issues as with Burnley really, even though we scored three. We missed a lot of good chances which would have killed the game off and we do need to get our scoring boots on a bit more against these ultra-defensive sides.
  8. Wacko, can’t wait to see Man C and Liverpool playing the low block against us. That will be the ultimate compliment.
  9. We controlled the game pretty much throughout and scored when it mattered. Not too much energy expended, not too many injuries. Shame about the yellow cards, no idea what the ref was on but otherwise mission accomplished. As our current Home Secretary quipped*, the place is a sh*th*le and we are well out of there.
  10. So Dion Dublin is definitely off my Xmas card list. He’s been yearning for Middlesbrough to win all match, the disloyal twunk.
  11. MATTY CASH?????? BUT I HAVE BEEN RELIABLY INFORMED BY ALL THE EXPERTS HERE HE IS NO GOOD!
  12. I’m very worried about the number of yellow cards we are picking up.
  13. Good to get Duran off. He’s not up to it yet. Not so sure about Bailey, although that may always have been the plan’
  14. Ah, I see we have entered our “revert to panicky defending” phase.
  15. Hmm. So that was a penalty and a second booking for Jones. Missing VAR already.
  16. Doesn’t sound like you happy now, even though we won
  17. Last 6 games is won 3 drawn 2 lost 1 so not playing well don’t seem too bad a thing.
  18. Understandably? I think the pessimism is beyond comprehension.
  19. That’s a bit cautious. I would go for Bruce - never been better than under him!
  20. I’ve often thought this thread should be renamed “Ratings and Overreactions” and tonight it has truly earned that name. Some posts here literally take the breath away. I look forward to someone opening a Relegation Thread tomorrow.
  21. Love this site. We are 2-0 up yet somehow we have been “poor”!!
  22. That has been a fantastic 45 minutes of Emery ball played to near perfection.
