  1. By the way, we were 2 - 1 up at hawthorns with a whole second half to play with Carew and Gabby up front.....why didn't we put the game to bed with half an hour to go?

Conversely, we were 2-1 up at Villa Park vs WBA with 40 minutes to play without Carew.. Why didn't we put the game to bed with half an hour to go?

this just proves that looking at statistics and making an assumption on the whole outlook of the team is pretty much POINTLESS and a MEGA FAIL!

we all do it, and this is just on aspect of why football is the most talked about sport in the world. A simple game with so many variables and statistics which we think we can predict by some basic analysis.

I love it. Everyones a player, ever managers a fan, every fan is a manager.

  2. Yeah we are coping well without him, but I still think we miss him in terms of we can only play one way now. Carew is very good at holding up the ball and I think then, we don't have to rely on our pace and counter attacking power.

So we miss this imaginary thing called a 'plan b'

Plan A has got us 27 points from 12, which is title winning form....I'll stick with that, thanks.

no there is no plan A and plan B, it's about being a dynamic 11 where you can craft many different opportunities in many different ways. We cannot hold the ball up well at all at the moment, and if we do, it's Gabby that is doing it, who is the main player you want running onto the ball.

  3. BBC Sport article

    What do you think peeps?

I think it's fari play. Everyone knows United have more room to whine and moan than any other club. I think rafa has "selected" his facts pretty well to make his point. I think Ferguson will brush the comments off and just sets up a massive clash against them later on in the season.

  4. Captain's duties in a football team:

    ref - Heads or tails?

    captain -Heads.

ref - Heads it is. Kick off or chose ends?

captain - We'll attack the North Stand in the first half.

    ref - Okay.

Capello was right when he said he couldnt understand why English people put such importance on who wears the armband. Personally I think its because we are a cricket playing nation and the captain in cricket essentially means you are the manager of the team, and for some reason we give the captain in football equal weighting. On the pitch the captain has no specific duties. The ref might look to him to tell one of his own players to calm down but natural leaders do that anyway, you dont need an armband to show your team mates you can do that, they already know.

I very strongily disagree with you.

The captain very much has a role on the pitch, a captain is the one who sets the tone, who leads and when the chips are down either by force or by example forces those around him to raise their game in a way someone stood on the sidelines can't.

Think of the way Keane used to inspire his Man Utd side, of the way Viera would fight for the team and inspire those around him to fight, look at the way Gallas sat on the turf at Birmingham and Arsenal's season collapsed around them. Look at Terry playing for England in Germany last month.

    The captains role is vital.

Couldn't agree more. Keane in the tunnel with Viera after his comments on Neville was exactly what you wanted from him at that point. Protecting "his" flock from the outside.

Also I know from playing cricket if my captain starts getting pumped, tearing after balls through the in-field or giving a bit of banter to the batsmen, we all seem to follow and work together.

Captains are there to unite people on the pitch. If the team is losing grip on the 50/50's I think a good crunching tackle by the captain soon sorts that out. There is a lot more to a captain than just it's status. For example you wouldn't make Nicky Shorey captain would you? it would be Friedel, Barry, Reo-Coker or Laursen, maybe Davies. But mostly you look for someone who can fit the role of Captain. Therefore it must have a purpose.

  5. Does anyone give a rats ass anymore?

I dont listen to Radio 1/BRMB/Heart FM so I dont even know what X Factor sounds like (nor do I want to know)

Christmas songs should be banned - in fact Christmas should be banned.

    Bahfuckinghumbug

Only if we could ban all religon....I'd happily give up Christmas for that!

  6. I don't get the whole appeal of Jeff Buckley. I don't think he was particularly talented at all. Very very overrated IMO.

His voice was amazing and to me a talented musician as well, just like his father. His music isn't to everyones taste. But to say he wasn't 'talented at all' is uttely ridiulous. I suppose Lewis Hamilton is "alright" and Chris Hoy is "pretty good"

  7. Jeff Buckley should be number one, but doubt anyone will buy it becuase as much as he deserved it, he isn't that well known in comparison with X Factor winners.

Rick Roll is funny to whoever finds it humerous.

AND if we are being honest, the genuine "great tracks" to "Christmas number" ones is pretty low. But again, that is down to personal opinion.

  8. Some of you may have seen the ULTIMATE RICK ROLL on Facebook.

Basically to stop X Factor getting christmas number one again, thousands of people are buying Astley's - Never Gonna Give You Up single on itunes.

If you want to participate please do. Would be awesome to have it number one.

  9. I want my kids to have a good all round education but I think I will find it hard to find a public school that has the sports facilities private schools have and I think it's very important part of an educaiton.

Teaches you to be part of a team more than any other lessons.

Agree Grammar schools are very important for the public system. Every child needs an equal opportunity....to a certain degree.

  10. I think "Where Eagles Dare" would be a great film to remake, a great plot and story with twists and turns.

    Burton: Clive Owen?

    Eastwood: Sutherland? Damon?

I don't think the flow of the story should change much at all from the original, but the action could certainly be beefed up for modern day.

  11. Nice one I'll post mine after the game tonight then! Expect surplus Beatles songs is all I am saying...

The only Beatles album I bought was Magical Mystery tour...check it out, it's bloody immense. Got most of my favourites on.

I am the Walrus being one of them.

On the note of worst cover ever....Oasis covering the above...shocking!

  12. I'll do my list of favourite songs later, I'll need time to compile them. Some of them haven't been released as singles though so do they count or do they HAVE to be singles?

no they can be any song/track/composition.

  13. Hey Largelugs,

Good list, I think I like about 34 of those tunes the rest I haven't heard of or haven't put the name to the tune (am sure I know some of them by ear). Of the 34 I think 10 were in the running for my list.

I haven't had a look where we cross over but I know Johnny Cash - Hurt is in my list.

You a big fan of Doves? me too, then again not sure whether I put any of their tunes in my top 100, if not I will need to. Was listening to Lost Souls and Last Broadcast over the weekend, both brilliant albums. Seasong being one to mind.

  14. I just liek the tone of the lit only a few like Dr. dre I would not actually like but a good one to listen to whilst out on the bike

Yeah Ganster rap isn't to everyones taste. I just love the bassline in Forgot about Dre and I do like the way it tells a story, even though it's pretty ridiculous.

  15. By the way people

    34 Ghostwritter - RJD2

If you have never heard that one and you like chillout/DJ Shadow then you will love this. It's a great track. I used to listen to it every morning.

In the interests of trying something new, I just had a listen to that, and I quite like it - as far as it goes. But I do have this problem with "groove"-based music - from James Brown on through George Clinton and up to current dance-y stuff - I always end up thinking "nice intro - when's the song going to start?". Because that's what it sounds like: unfinished; a rather good backing track waiting for somebody to come and put an actual song onto it. At times it did remind me of some of the funky Stax instrumentals that the likes of Booker T and the MGs used to do, but even they would have had a human drummer and a couple of jazzy organ and guitar solos to give it some life and shape.

But yeah, it's still OK, even if I wouldn't buy stuff like that.

If someone gave it to you on a compilation cd would you listen to it though?

I think equating a tune to whether you would buy it can be a bit of a no brainer especially with that RJD2 track. It's pretty much the only track I like on his album and even I wouldn't buy the album because there is one song in 12 tracks I like.

That is the problem with some artists.

New Radicals - You Only Get What You Give

it's the only track I liked on that album as well, which is why I love bit torret.

  16. Johnny Cash - Hurt

This isn't a tune you will think is "alright". You will either love it.....hate it....or go...it's not as good as the original.

It's a lot different to the original. The video was voted by critics as one of the greatest videos ever. It basically sums up his entire life in a set of lyrics, which I think is why he picked it.

His wife died a few weeks after this video was made, and I think he passed away a couple of months after, most likely of a broken heart. Sounds funny, but that happens a lot more than you think.

And I think this would make an awesome video for someone like McGrath, Adams, Merson, Cantona, Best. Awesome players that had their flaws.
