I think a moderator (with the power/force) should do a poll on new chants for various players/clubs/other

Then people should vote for which ones they like the most. In order to do this the chant needs to have the tune/hymn whatever so that people know what tune to sing it to.

That would get my vote for Ashley Young, it's awesome.

Once a chant gets the vote (e.g. the Young chant above wins the poll), then it should go into a locked thread where the whole squad is listed and their chant is posted below. That way people on here can read them, listen to the tune and everyone will know it.

Only problem is finding a moderator willing to get all the chants for players together and create polls for it. I wouldn't mind doing it but I am not a moderator. Plus I think I am part of the crew on here who is pretty good at making new chants. I am all in favour of using existing melodies (Lord of the dance, pink floyd - the wall, my old mans a dustman etc), but I think new tracks are the way to go as well.

I hate to say it but Liverpool are pioneers at this. I heard them using "what's that coming over the hill is it a monster" melody to a chant, and I have chatted to my mates villa, United, spurs, wolves fans and they all agree they absolutely love it when they hear something completely new.

It is something that is difficult to achieve but I am sure the key chanters are signed up to this forum and would agree getting some "fresh" chants would be welcomed. I bet we only have about 5-10 chants that are sung regularly. It should be a lot more.

Perhaps it is because I compose music and really passionate about miusic in general but I love to have a good old sing song at the game and I definitely do when it's a boring game.

If you watch Boca Juniors they are going ape shit for 90 minutes singing, chanting and I know it's a different culture but we should be aiming to up the atmosphere and I think chanting is a KEY part of that.

Parents and their kids won't be singing "shit on the city" all the time. But that young chant above is the kind of thing I really would like to belt out.

We really need a new song for Young, our best player and we rarely sing his name and when we do it's the dour 'Ashley Young Ashley Young....' song, Milner needs something other than 'Theres only one Jimmy Milner' aswell, i refuse to sing it. Lets get songs for them both going at Spurs as it's at away games where new songs catch on

Couldn't agree more, if our chants were chefs meals we would be eating Beans on toast every match, we could be pioneers in the chanting world if we could get some of the 90 pages of chants on here onto the stands.

1. Words have to be as easy as possible to pick up and learn (at least the main part of the chant)

2. has to be to a tune many people will recognise

3. Ideally try and fit it to the same rhyming structure as the original tune

4. If not to the original rhyming structure just make it catchy.

I write music and think of chants for fun, some are a bit too complex to sing on the terraces but some I think could work well. Lots of other people on here have come up with great chants but sometimes it's hard to know what tune it is.

If you think of a chant on here, would be good to put the name of the tune you are thinking of or at least a YouTube link to view the tune.

The important thing is we get together and test them out. Tell you what if anyone is going to the home game against Litech on Thursday 25th could try and get tickets in the same area. I am looking for Holte upper ideally, think thats the best place to get these things going.

Nice one mate, shame our fans aren't creative enough to sing any of them. They'd rather sing 'shit on the City' right after we equalise, the right side of the Upper Holte are the main culprits, always singing daft songs or the wrong song at the wrong time.

I got a fair few chants on the go that I have been posting on here and writing down. I generally go with lads that get so into the game they only make a noise when we score. I make music so I like to try and sing along, but always get the "you Pri*k" looks when I start trying something new.

I messaged the general one of my better ones and he said he enjoyed it, so I think it's time we got together to try and publish some chants (the classics) and some new ones, then people can at least make some noise.

It's not "awful" to try and get something new into the stands. I don't know how Liverpool and other clubs manage to get new tunes out at such a volume, but they must be doing something.

something original and unique is what we need. Like you say singing "shit on the city" right after we score, how tepid is that? we might as well just chant "villa, Villa VILLA" for the full 90 minutes.

I don't know how many of you have fans at Blues and Coventry city, but they do think it's pretty funny that whenever they are watching villa they on MOTD all they hear is about 3 chants.

we need something positive and some refreshing changes on the terraces. It's happening on the pitch, in the coaching and management and definitely in the boardroom so why not try something on the terraces.

Unfortunately I haven't got a season ticket but coming into a good job now so next season I will probably be joining you in K5 or K4 but atm I am only going to 4-8 games this season.

perhaps put on here or sending ones round the pub of a chant to try out. if it's pants its pants and we move onto the next one. but if it's good then we should keep it.

the way I try and write chants is to think of a well known tune and adapt the words to they rhyme similarly. if you look back on page 40 I think I posted on to Fleetwood Mac's everywhere. Even my work colleague who supports Sky Blue's began singing it, and the General seemed to like it.

however my greatest achievement was getting warwickshire cricket fans to chant "The only thing your famous for is sauce" to Worcestershire fans...people loved it and it does bring people to smile when you hear a good new chant.

I don't know about people on here but we need more variety in our repetoire. Even spurs are coming up with inventive chants for christ sake. lol

We need to try and put pressure on teams at home in the first 30 minutes. First 10 might be asking a little much as players need to settle down and get hold of the game. But I certainly think at Villa Park they need to really push teams back into their halves regardless of who they are. I also think that the crowd sometimes can be a bit tepid, I for one really do give it my all and yes sometimes I do look like a fool chanting stuff that no one else has any idea (songs etc that I make up) but the point is I am making noise. The away fans should rarely be heard but more often than not they are the ones making the noise.

That said yesterdays game didn't really give us much to cheer about, but I do think for the first 15 minutes the noise level in the ground should be bordering on mental.

I think if Wiki is correct then it is today and if so I would also like to pass on my Birthday wishes to him. I have noticed some really good changes at Villa Park, and I somehow feel more special to Villa as a fan than I did before. I think the progress that has been made has been brilliant and long may it continue. Is there anyway of the fans clubbing together to get him a present? I am sure he has most things but perhaps something unique on behalf of the fans would be apreciated. I would happily chip in towards getting him something.
