Judging Bruce’s tenure is a tricky subject.
Was his performance here awful? Probably not.
got us to a play off final where we were beaten narrowly based on score, but comprehensively based on performance.
i still believe given the players he had at his disposal we should have stroller to promotion, probably finishing second to wolves who really were a class above.
Smith has clearly shown how to make the best use of the players available, and those that were written off under Bruce, look the decent players the probably always were, and those that were decent look like the quality players they probably always were.
Players are looking fitter, sharper, and more confident - and I can’t help but wonder why that should be the case unless they were being mismanaged?
I get a strong feeling that he is too quick to write off players and as a result cause problems in the dressing room.
Clearly he’s not an awful manager, as Wednesday’s recent up turn in form suggests, but there’s a reason why he doesn’t last very long at any club, and I will not be surprised when the wheels come off there too, and he’s appointed at another club that are looking to get into the play offs.
His philosophy reeks of short-termism, and that isn’t a healthy way to go about things.
I think he puts his own stubborn-ness above what’s good for the club, and hence the mess that was left in defence.
Was he the worst manager we’ve had in recent times? Not by a long shot.
Did we make any progress under his guidance? Not at all
Do I wish him well for the future? Yeah, I actually do.

Unless Sheffield have a purchase clause I don't get loaning him to a promotion rival, there appears to be no real benefit our end, he's not even getting a good run of games there.
Sabotage?

I think Davis's finishing problem is that he's always trying to absolutely leather the ball, it's a bit... Telegraphed at this level, and allows you to get a foot in the way.
He also ALWAYS shoots across the keeper, which is textbook and what you're told as a kid, but on a couple of occasions in the last week, you just want him to hit it hard, high and towards the near post.
Tammy is calm in front of goal, which gives him more time. I think Davis rushes a little.. a bit more composure, which will come with confidence from netting a couple will help him on his way.
That said, if he can't learn how to finish, this will be his level in years to come (no shame in that!!)
Really?
i don’t think I could disagree with this more.
tammy’s strengths are intelligent positioning and an uncanny ability to bundle the ball into the net. Calmness in front of goal is his biggest let down, and the the main reason he’s playing for us rather than being in with any real chance of starting for chelsea

all davis needs to do is add goals to his game.
he's got all the tools and his hold up play is better than tammy "touch of a trampoline" abraham and jimmy "falls over and rolls around kodjia.
He desperately needs take the chances when they come along to bang a few in soon as he won't get the shirt off tammy.
remember this guy transformed us last season with his ability to hold up the ball back to goal. in the prem its crucial to retain possession.
he got a big contract but has he got the desire to make it? I watched a vid on youtube the players were on about their first motors.....most had bag of shit astras for their first car......Davis had a bmw 2 seriescoupe!
I agree with most of your post, but I fail to see the connection between the two bits I’ve highlighted in bold?

Incredible performance
some really intelligent passes too

Honestly, looks a better player than Tammy... and I’m not meaning to be unkind to Tammy.
-
Hourihane could have had 4

Cannot question his attitude, and I love the energy and desire he brings.
poor penalty, but he hit the target at least, and many a top player has missed a penalty.
Has been way off his own usual high standard, and maybe a rest will do him good.
i do think that he needs subbing sometimes, and let someone else have a go upfront...
-
Don’t mean to be too critical, as clearly he has played his own part in a 5 match winning streak.
However, I find him extremely frustrating with his crossing. As others have mentioned he is clearly shot of any confidence as each time he crosses it it’s poor. This then leads to him just laying the ball back instead.
at the moment his crossing is too poor to be a winger, and his control too poor to be a no.10
he needs to be told to just go all out and not be afraid of messing up. Just keep crossing.
-
True, but I still have more faith in him than any of our others so far.
-
Honestly, I think we could do better for whatever stupid price would be quoted.
He just can’t shoot.
And yeah, I know how stupid that sounds given he’s got 22 goals

how many sitters did Tammy miss this match?
The same number he misses every match.
if he could shoot, he’d have 50 goals this season

Mings is too good.
May Southgate is there to watch him?

Just hope we start this one with everyone in their zone and on the same page. Do that and we'll get the win I think. A slow start might prove costly.
I don't know much about Blackburn except for Dack, who can create something from little and will be a threat if we allow him the ball in their final third.
This game falls on my birthday and I have arranged everything so all commitments and celebrating will be done on other days, so that I can enjoy the weekend to myself.
Happy birthday @A’Villan

I like that some people are writing Kalinic off after 6 Championship games
Can’t speak for others, but I’m certainly not writing him off.
All I’m saying is that we’ve won 4 on the bounce, letting in one freak goal in the process.
For me Steer keeps the shirt until he loses it.

I presume it means they sell to the highest bidder but if we match the fee then we getcfirst crack. He seems to like it here anyway, so here’s hoping! He’s settled in very well!
Yh, but what a pointless clause.
If there's more than one offer accepted, he will speak to all parties concerned.
"first crack" don't mean diddly-squat.

We've literally played Steer, Kalinic, Nyland, Moreira, and Bunn this season. We've spent close to 10 million on keepers just this season, and ended up with Steer in goal.
He has been solid, but I think we really should be playing Kalinic if he is seen as our long term #1.
I really think we should be playing whoever is in form, and that the long term number one should be decided by that rather than who we spent a load of cash on.

Leeds don’t frighten me.
