  1. Wow, this stalking is seriously getting out of hand now!!
  2. So if Martinez is ruled out....who's next to be linked....Coyle maybe?
  3. We don't know that Martinez has been offered the job!! If he's decided to stay at Wigan, doesn't mean he rejected us, he might be 1 of 4/5 people we are speaking to!
  4. We don't/never have attracted top players though...the best way forward for us is to find the top players when they are young and develop them ourselves.
  5. Do you think Mourinho or Alex Ferguson could have done any better at Wigan?? He's had virtually no money to spend and lost some key players....Wigan are probably a League 1 club (size wise), yet he has kept them up TWICE against the odds.
  6. To be fair to Martinez, Wigan did spend a fair bit before he arrived (Rodallega, N'Zogbia...), and he's hardly had a pot to piss in...he's signed 2/3 players from small SPL teams, sold some of their better players and kept Wigan up for 2 years...decent achievement IMO. This is Wigan remember...the smallest club in the Premier League...not Arsenal!!
  7. I'm undecided on Martinez...he'll either prove to be a stroke of genius or a complete flop. I'm willing to give him a chance though...can he do it at a big club?? (Think he only played in lower leagues as a player too, not that it means much)
  8. I was chatting to a Sun reporter earlier and I asked him who the new manager would be...and he just said buy tomorrow's Sun...so I think there's some news shortly!
  9. I really can't think of anyone on a 'meltdown' scale who hasn't (seemingly) been ruled out. Ancelotti is obviously the one - were his comments last week just another scokescreen? Moyes/Benitez - would they be meltdown? Villa-Boas - almost impossible to get him from Porto
  10. If thats the height of our ambition then we are shagged I think he'd be a good long-term appointment...like when Everton got Moyes (only difference is Owen Coyle got a small northern team promoted to the Prem and Moyes didn't!!)
  11. I posted a similar question earlier, fulham have got a better manager now, if Hughes does come to Villa then that makes our expectations less than Fulhams I'm not sure it's the right thread for discussing it, but what makes Jol a better manager than Hughes? Err... Only he has been far more successful than Hughes Oh right, I must have missed that period of Jol's career in managerial terms, what has hughes won? ever? what has been hughes top finish in the league? jol, while no master has won the dutch cup 2 times and finished 5th in the premiership, both things beat anything hughes has done. i cant understand this love in with hughes, an average manager who has never done anything people like david oleary havent done. hughes has been a manager for 11 years, yes thats right, 11 years. he is not some new manager learning his trade. ancelotti has only managed 4 years more than him and has won shed loads of trophies for his clubs. Hughes Wales - got them into top 30 in world rankings, currently ranked about 130! Blackburn - kept them consistantly in the top 8 without spending any money...and often losing best players Man City - Were 5th when they sacked him...sacked too early in my opinion. Majority of his team won FA Cup Fulham - Achieved a top 8 finish in his first season whilst spending very little...whilst we finished 9th having spent £30m in January Jol Spurs - Spent a shit load of money and finished 5th twice...despite being in pole position for 4th in one of his seasons...bottler Ajax - Finished behind Steve McClarens Twente, whilst at a much bigger club...and won the dutch cup (with the biggest team in Holland) I certainly know I would choose Hughes out of the 2!
  12. I wish the Ancelotti stuff hadn't reared it's head again...that means I'll have to get over the disappointment again now!!

  15. Rafa Benitez has been suspiciously quiet in the press lately...
  16. True, he said GH was coming back about a week before he left
  17. I think it's gonna be Rafa now...and I quite like the idea of having a b*****d in our corner, fighting for the Villa cause!
  18. Feck off you blue nose fanny and get a life Judging by that chavvy retarded comment I think you should take your own advice. Someone likes a different manager than the majority and they get abused. Tell me about it!!
  19. Would you be happy with Mcleish? Finished as high as 9th with Brum (unthinkable now), won them their first ever trophy and got them into the UEFA Cup.. Plus, your point doesn't really work because McClaren never got anyone relegated. Only because Wolfsburg had the sense to get rid of him before he managed it :winkold: Fortunately, SHA arn't that bright! Wolfsburg were 12th when he left, they finished 16th (and only saved themselves on the last day), so they didn't actually get any better when he left.
