I would be really disappointed if I were a spurs fan after that transfer window, VDV or not.
They have wasted a golden opportunity to sell their club as a Champions League team to attract a higher standard of player but they haven’t added anyone better than their current first 11. They won't get another chance like that for a few more years IMO.
-
heard today that before the Young boys came there was a big ruck in the hotel between some Spurs players , Keane , Lennon and Ekotto were involved but not sure on the full details ..
-
VDV is not that great. I'd rate him at about 10mill so 8mill is a good deal but Harry is joking if he thinks anyone would believe Bayern would consider paying 18million for him.

It'll be Sven, I know it and it'll be the best thing that's ever happened to us. All this moaning of the MON strict English transfer policy... Sven won't stop buying foreigners.
At Man City he bought Elano, Giovanni, Bojinov, Corluka, Isaakson, Bianchi... probably some more in there somewhere...
well if they are the types of signings that you want then it certainly wont be the best thing thats ever happened to us..
Elano, ok he is a good player
Giovanni, SHIT
Bojinov, SICKNOTE
Corluka, Good player
Isaakson, SHIT
Bianchi, SHIT
get the point ?
So,
Elano, Bojinov and Corluka are all good players. Isaakson wasn't a bad signing and was Swedens number 1. Thee was no other goalkeepers about so that I consider a fair signing. Get Bianchi on the end of some of Ashley Youngs crosses and you've got another Santa Cruz-esque player. And Giovanni has an eye for goal, something we've been missing lately. I guess he's no Torres but get him on for the last 15 or so minutes.
Sven spent loads of money in a scatter gun approach at Man City. Some of them came off but most were big flops.
Didn't he sign a couple just from watching you tube clips of them?

I think Klinsman is in the frame, as someone previously mentioned. I know he doesn't fit the club statement about Prem managerial experience, but consider this:
1. timing - Bradley gets a new contract from the US, which goes against conventional wisdom as the USMNT has been trying to get Klinsman for years now. Perhaps JK told them he is taking another job, and Bradley was told no way on the Villa job, and the US really has little choice.
2. New UEFA rules and FA rules on self sustaining and homegrown players - JK is a big proponent of setting up a system to develop young talent to be brought through in a certain style (academy) eventually making it to the first team. This allows Villa, already with a strong academy, to develop in house, homegrown talent that can be signed up on long term contracts at reasonable wages until the players become stars. Then you give them a raise, or sell high and invest.
JK has a plan for this, and I think Randy would be listening closely with the new rules, and Man City changing the game.
Just a thought.
Personally, I think Klinsman is the guy Randy would be after also.
When Randy took over there were rumours that he wanted Klinsman but Doug had put forward O'Neil and the club went with that.
I think he will now be Lerners first choice. He has prem experience as a player so perhaps that shouldn't rule him out.

Just on BBC Transfer Deadline Page
artillery_john-TW14 on 606: "Martin O'Neill is being brought in to replace the outbound David Moyes at Everton. Moyes will make Mikel Arteta his first signing as the new Aston Villa boss."
-
Randy's flights to Europe at this sensitive time give me hope that it will not be MacDonald. It tells me he is trying hard to get someone else. Or else it's me reading wrongly into it
Or he's trying hard to catch the last of the summer sunshine
-
I think Babel is pretty average but it looks like it is West Ham and not Spurs that he is heading to. Probably see Cole go the other way...
-
I was really expecting spurs to get some champions league type players in and really push on but appears they have no money despite charging a billion pounds per season ticket.
I think they are saving their money towards building a stadium and are just going to pocket all this extra cash from the CL this season.
-
We are not signing Moyes.
You guys should have found a better way of spending your bank holiday Monday
-
We won't get one of those players. Keane is possible but unlikely and as for the others, you are dreaming...
-
Well I guess it was all BS.
MacDonald MUST GO NOW.
And let Petrov manage the team for Everton??
-
Yet in the lines above the bold bit he says "us" for City and "them" for Villa.
He has only just moved so he is in transition...
-
The Liverpool fans are going nuts because they wanted Salcido and are getting a 29yo Fulham cast off instead.
I'm liking this home grown rule more and more

very good preformance last night barry man of the match at the ground milner man of the match on sky
You'd be nothing without us! 8)
-
In 7-10 years they will be set up and self fullfilling with fans across the globe. They won't need massive investment anymore to keep ticking along. Much like how Abramovich doesn't put loads of money into Chelsea anymore.
-
Except being government employees, the entirety of their wage is stolen goods...
That bankers you mean?
-
Robinho will move to Besiktas in a 15 million pound plus move from Man City.
Perhaps we should nip in there and buy him with the Milner money
-
Looks like William Gallas is their first real signing of the summer.
I wonder how he will go down with the fans at WHL.
-
NRC won posession loads of times, he's good at that. He also has a tendancy to hold the ball for way too long and run into a dead end losing it again.
It's when he wins the ball and plays simple passes that he is at his best. I think he thinks he is a lot better than he actually is though and trys to do more than he is capable of.
-
Davis is quite small but nimble for a CB. His best spell was when he was mopping up for Laurson charging out of the defence to win headers. They made a good combination but Davis trying to lead the defence (especially when he has been out so long) is atrocious.
-
I think we will conceed more goals.
-
Good news indeed.
I am happy we have rested a few players as well. Bottom line is we all moaned when O'Neil did not use the squad, and with Davies, Beye, Guzan, Warnock, Reo Coker, Downing, Heskey and now Albrighton, we have enough potentional first teamers out there.
I am sure the youngsters will gain a lot from this experience. I would take a scoring draw, but thik we will nick it 2-1
Guzan
Beye, Davies, Clark, Warnock
Albrighton, Reo Coker, Downing, Bannan
Heskey, Weimann
Reo Coker to skipper and be MOTM
Weimann and Downing to score
Hesky to play ok, but miss a sitter
People also moaned when he played a similar side against Moscow away.

McClaren has an excelent record at club level. He is remembered for the Euro qualifying campaign with England though.
I predict he will return from Germany with more experience and credability and will go on to manage a big club in England.
Confirmed: Houllier is the new Villa manager

If we were to bring in Houllier I think it would be more in a director of football type roll with KM staying on as first team coach. I think Houllier has taken a step back from the stress of being a team manager.
