  1. now look here you, there's no call for that kind of optimism and reasoning on an Aston Villa message board
  2. I applaud the testicular fortitude of Mr McLeish, that is for sure. He knows an awful lot of hate is coming his way from a never ending parade of idiocy, yet he's still prepared to manage our fine club. I dont particularly rate him as a manager, but he's bery much impressed me as a person from his time at SHA to present
  3. SSN reporting talks will be held within 24 hours It's ok, we were talking to Rafa last week and then 2 hours later they changed their minds.
  4. look, when was the last **** time TalkShite got anything right? They're abysmal. Their source always appears to be retarded national jounalists or SSN. Pathetic.
  5. *cough* Talksports source is probably Moxley ffs
  6. Incidentally, I spoke to my grandad yesterday - he attended a school reunion on saturday and one of his friends' son is a Villa solicitor (his name is Dennis if that's remotely helpful) and he passed on that Hughes was at VP on Wednesday last week and his appointment will be announced this week some time, and that we first contacted Hughes 2 weeks before Houllier left. I was sceptical, but thought I'd post it anyway. Feel free to lump all your money on Hughes or lampoon me, whatever.
  7. I dont care that McLeish is tainted blue - if he'd led them to two top 8 finishes and a trophy win then Im sure we'd all let it slide... My problem is that a) he hasnt led them to said top 8 finishes, and his teams play dull, lifeless, unambitious football. The three 'big' teams he's managed - Scotland, Rangers and Blues - have all played a dour 4-5-1 with admitted defensive solidity, but seem to bypass midfield completely. The fact that the inbred fans down the road are delighted that the manager who has won them their first (and last) trophy in a generation has quit just a few months later should tell you everything. No thank you.
  8. btw, Im loving McClaren screaming "I wasnt ever contacted and I never contacted them. I've not been rejected, I havent, I havent I HAVENT"
  9. yeah, I must say the Whelan does often have a moan about clubs taking his players etc in public but he was nothing but complimentary. Obviously doesnt want to lose his manager, although I think saying he's going to be at one of the top 6 clubs in the world is a little extreme. If it is going to be him, just get it done quickly - we need some players and some certainty.
  10. yeah, was just about to post that. "Aston Villa supporters - your club has behaved superbly" "If every club behaved like Aston Villa, football would be much nicer"
  11. a little underwhelming, but I can sort of see the logic behind it. Make sure you pack N'Zogbia and Rodallega in your suitcase Roberto, ta.
  12. I have this feeling that McClaren is the kind of guy who interviews very well - says the right things etc
  13. I voted for Carlo. It's the kind of appointment that could change the club - in a similar way to Chelsea signing Gullit in the mid 90s. It took them continental, made them a bigger name, and then a few years later... Football is different now, sure, but profile is still huge. Ancelotti can/would change that upwardly. There is a flip side, which is obviously that if a bigger job comes up in 12/18 months and he's nigh on transformed us then he'd be off quicker than Downing's agent can say "how much?!?!", but I think the positive elements to his appointment outweigh this.
  14. Ancelotti doesnt have a "cant manage in the PL for 12 months clause" - he accepted a lower pay-off instead
  15. McClaren's faux-Brummie accent might be worth his appointment alone... Sadly, the fact the guy appears to be an utter clown outweighs it. I have ran 4 new games on the bible that is Football Manager, and he's gotten the job each time :-(
  16. have a feeling it will be Benitez, nothing to base it on - just a hunch
  17. Dear Mr Holloway; are we still a half-arsed club? We've just signed a player for an amount of money that could probably buy your entire club. Up yours. Regards, me
  18. Gabby looks absolutely wasted out on the left flank - only touched the ball about 4 times. That Heskey miss from 3 yards is going to be costly
