? Embassassing - why ? For GH perhaps, though I doubt he knows or would be bothered. For those who have answered a simple question - do you currently approve of GH 'No' - what is embarrassing about that ? We haven't scored a goal for nearly a month in the League, and our performances are nothing special. Axe to grind ? - No. I certainly was a huge MON fan and think we won't get someone as good again, and I think Randy bottled it in the very season we needed one more push. So what ? It doesn't mean I won't support or applaud the next guy - if he merits it.

? Which is what exactly ? Is it that he didn't buy enough squad players ? In which case how do you know e was given the go ahead ? Or is it that you don't like the quality - well the Board want LESS spent, so you'd get even poorer quality - how do ou attract better ? How could MON have ? Or is it that our Youths are not all knocking on the door fter all, as MON thought ? I can see why he played the same 12 players myself.

The league is a lot more competitive now and it's a lot harder to build from 6th than it is to build from 16th. I hope Gerard will eventually go further than 6th but I don't think he should be expected to do it this season. The League this Year is nothing like as tough as it has been, it is the year we should be/ should have been kicking on. And it doesn't alter the fact that GH inherted a Top 6 side, so why does he need the time MON had ?

But he was building from 16th !! GH is building from 6th !!

And I don't think the football has been better either.

Pretty clear to me we are going backwards. Of course it may improve, but that will be then and not now. And I certainly don't hold with all this 'season of consolidation' rubbish. From where we were and with the weakness of some of our rivals we should have been challenging top 4 (again) but look nowhere near it. So, 'Non'

Something about the performance, the tactics, the result, along with other events and results, seems to sum up a growing feeling I have that we are back to where we were when O'Dreary left, in many more ways than one. There really was little between the sides, that 5-1 seems like it was from another World.

Appalling. Anyone still think Macdonald would be a good idea ? Remember Randy widely touting him along with many others a couple of weeks ago, now we've ballsed up our easiest opening set of fixtures for years. No spirit, no fire, no tactics, no heart. Like going back 4 years.

Why are so many saying this.??. We only lost 1 player ??? 6th should be the minimum requirement from all fans else the Club have gone backwards and someone should say why.

No conflict in what I said here didnt say it was a conflict - its ironic, you calling people who criticsed mon as "know-alls" but then saying you are glad its kevin (fifteen years of reserve team management at villa) macdonalds last game! you arent a "know-all" though... Those criticising MOn were criticising a manager who brought us consecutive top 6 fineshes, yet they thought he wasn't good enough. I am saying I will be glad to see the back of a guy who has acheived nothing at all in the Premier League. Not his fault, but it will be a good thing when he goes. Again, so I see no irony whatsoever.

Nothing wrong with the players, just the Manager, we will be fine if Houllier is any good.

Fair enough - it just will always piss me off the crap he got from the know it alls on here. But, ok, moving on- at least this is Mcdonalds last game ! We still have some good players, we should improve , lets just hope we scrape this one for now. We will need a bit of luck tho'.

Well we've played 5 of the bottom 9and looked awful, with the same side that fineshed 6th last year. maybe MON wasn't so clueless ?

Young in for Cuellar

I hope the Luke Young fan club are keeping count of how many goals we have conceeded this year from his side of the pitch. Mcdonald should realise MON knew what he was doing when our defence was up there with the best in the country last year and put Cuellar back in.

The appointment is ok. Who cares whether he's here for some games ? What puzzles me is why we areall accepting this season as one of transition. We were almost there last year, and have only lost 1 player. Add to that how crap some thought MON was presumably these people think we should get top 4 this year? So why the sudden outbreak of cries for patience ? And suddenly let the 5 year plan become an 8 year plan ? We have to equal previous years as a minimum else we are going backwards, and at the wrong time. As it happens I see no reason why Houllier can't get us at least 6th, I'm sure MON would have progressed from last year.

Voted Happy. I'll never feel how I felt when MON joined us at the same time as Randy, but I think the Board have done all they can, and got a guy who, to be honest, it is hard to argue against, and from a limited field. (And they saw sense to not appoint Mcdonald). Good Luck Jezza. I doubt he will ever arouse the passionate 'fors' and 'againsts' that Martin did, so it'll be fun to all be on the same side ! (For a bit...)

Why not trust their judgement if they have done all the groundwork ? Sometimes certain partnerships work and others don't. No-one would have appointed Clough on the basis of Leeds had it been his first job would they ? Maybe they've all hit it off in great chemistry with the Liverpool connection of all 3 and the old bootroom philosophty there. Maybe it would work ?

I didn't want MON to go and I definitely didn't want Mcdonald on the basis of a couple of games. But I think some of the reactions to what may happen are over the top. Surely all we can ask for is that the Board do all they can to make a good chioice then we should all accept it ? Whether it's 3 man, Staunton and Mac, Curbishley, or whoever, we are all surely convinced now that a great effort has gone into trying to get it right ? We haven't done a Newcastle and try for populism or messiahism, we haven't simply promoted from within, the Board have done it all properly. Regardless of who it is, we should back them, and regardless of the seir sucess or failure we should accept it's been done the best way given the circumstances.

Can't understand the salivating over Moyes ? He's nothing that special. Anyway, ludicrous to think he would leave to come here - just as daft as when Spuds thought they might get MON. These Clubs are much of a muchness, when Moyes leaves he will go to Scotland or Manchester.

Well at least their criteria appears to rule out Mac and see the need for a Top Class Manager. Thank God ! I for one will be happy with anybody (except Southgate for historical reasons associated with this Club) that they choose given those criteria, don't understand peoples not happy with Sven, or Curbishley, or Houllier, or anyone. They all have good points and bad points, and as long as the Board apply the criteria they've stated that's all we can ask for.
