  1. I try to only post fact based stuff, and I try to keep a balance between positivity and reality ( which is certainly not very positive).

In doing so a Page or 2 ago I pointed out that even for the over 80’s the evidence is that 8-9/10 will recover.

However, having read a few things about the relatively low number of deaths I can’t help but point a couple of things out....

.........by the time this is”over” tens of thousands of people in this Country will have died a bitter and painful death after a bitter and painful illness. Probably hundreds of thousands more will have suffered greatly - anyone who has had genuine ‘flu knows it is a vile and awful illness, and can last weeks. This will be far worse for many. For many who “only” get ill with this virus there will be significant pain and suffering......and it won’t just be old or infirm people. They might have more chance of dying but they don’t have more chance of getting sick.

And along with those illnesses will be the fear of infecting the people you care about. There will be the doubt and uncertainty as to how long, and how bad, it will get for you. There will be feelings of powerlessness, and helplessness.

And all over the country care workers, doctors, nurses, and many others, are living in daily fear about these things happening to them.

I know it’s a forum, and everyone doesn’t feel the same way. I always try to respect the views of others.

But please could people stop and think about some of what I’ve said here - and about the fact that we have people reading the site who are experiencing what I’ve described, before Posting about similarities with ‘flu, low overall death rates, and the rest ?

  2. This thread suggests the severity of the situation hasn’t fully hit home to some ( including the Premier League).

Its similar to people posting the latest number of deaths and getting reactions of surprise, when actually the numbers are at present fairly predictable.

The disease is being tackled, but to misquote Churchill, “ this is not the End, nor the beginning of the End, nor even the End of the beginning”.

There will be no football for months. I wonder when the last person will come to this conclusion...maybe only when it’s formally announced ?

150,000+ people die every single day that is well over 100 people every single minute, The vast majority of them (2/3) will be age related.

40,000 mostly old people dying as a result of this over 3 months is about the same amount of people that that will have died of "old age" by the time you wake up in the morning after going to bed tonight

Whilst there is some legitimacy to your post I’d suggest perhaps saying it was “ clearing out” ( in the earlier post) people is an unfortunate turn of phrase if you don’t mind me saying...just trying to be helpful 🙂

It does seem a really random virus. It's supposed to be a killer of the elderly but there's been stories of really old folks getting over it.

I hope you don’t mind but I will kind of correct what you’ve said there, just in case there’s anyone reading who is unduly alarmed by it....

...The best evidence at present is that it may kill around 15% of those aged over 80 who catch it.

So even for people aged over 80, between 8/10 and  9/10 who get it ‘will’ recover.

For those between 70 and 80 the figures suggest 92/100 who get it will recover, and

For those in their 60’s it’s expected 97/100 will recover.

So really, it is NOT a “killer of the elderly” in as much as they are more at risk.

Anyone with an elderly relative who gets the virus can still be reasonably confident of recovery.

The statistics are still showing the ‘average’ death is an 82 year old male with other health issues.

There are and always will be outliers, the media picks up on them as they want the ‘interest’ and novelty.

367 deaths today, the only one we’ve heard of is this poor boy. The reason, he’s different from the norm.

    Exactly right.

Each to their own, but my advice is ignore anything that makes headlines like that.

We could easily see between 400 and 7/800 deaths a day for a month or so, there will be bound to be all sorts in there.

Beyond all of the other challenges, the mandatory requirement for paramedics to be on standby makes the possibility of football resuming seemingly impossible.

Theres no way anyone can justify diverting even one ambulance or one paramedic away from more pressing issues for a football match, let alone the full remaining schedule.

    This season is finished.

Has been for ages. Absolutely no question. They can tag it onto the start of the next one, next year, if they want.

  7. I think we will look back with horror and see we were teetering on the edge of an absolute catastrophe.

And we won’t be “ looking back” on it for a long time yet.

Neither of which will stop a certain percentage saying it was a fuss about nothing.

  8. That reminds me of a couple of deranged barbers I used to know would break into people’s houses, sit the occupant in a chair, get behind them , pull out razors and scissors, then ask if they’d “ been away yet this year ? “.

    Terrifying.

  9. If I may plug this as I am currently genuinely listening to it.

    Its by my Son.

He wrote all the words and music, played every instrument, did the vocals and designed the album.

But the bugger won’t promote it or perform it.

    I think it’s great, but it’s possible I’m biased.

His heroes are Pink Floyd, in particular Roger Waters, so, if anyone has a spare hour, please have a listen.

If I can send him even one positive comment it would be nice.

( it’s pretty miserable though, as people who know Roger would expect😂)

...he doesn’t know I’ve done this..

Please help me to be understanding of Grealish’s behaviour over the weekend. At the moment I can’t think of what he did as anything but unforgivable but maybe you can present the other side of the argument.

Not being funny at all but you posted just as I’m off.....apologies but hope my Pots over the last three pages explain my position even if you disagree 👍

Under what circumstances would driving while under the influence be understandable?

    Hypothetically of course

Well there’s many reasons why it would be understandable from different peoples perspective, (*)but I’m not saying it is anyway. I’m saying selling the player isn’t appropriate.

example..... you’ve just had a pint, your ma has a heart attack, you live miles from anywhere, you’ve no phone. Not saying I’d drive, but I’d understand someone who did.

(Although I don’t understand anyone drinking, whether driving or not.)

Because he was a drink driver.

I think your question is actually more relevant for you. If you’re happy having a convicted drink driver playing for your side, where would you draw the line?

Good question. But I could equally bat it back and say where would you ? ( and I did ask first 😂😂).

Because if you’d sack him for drunk driving, what about reckless driving, what about 12 penalty points for speeding, what about driving a dangerous and unroadworthy car, or driving with no insurance ? To name but a few.

  13. I’m afraid having spent my entire working life in law enforcement I can’t get my head around the lack of separation some have between punishing someone for a crime ( which is appropriate) and sacking them/ pillorying them/ disowning them or whatever ( which is subjective)

I can say there would be an awful lot of untouchable people in many walks of life, including on here, if that was the norm, as criminal offences ( including serious ones) are committed every day by huge numbers of people. And those offences that one person finds unforgivable, another finds understandable.

Again there is maybe the difference. I never respected him as a person in the first place. How could I, I know next to nothing about him ?

I admire him as a footballer, I praise him as a footballer, I love him as a footballer.
I think as soon as fans ( whether of film stars, musicians, footballers or whatever) step outside of that and into creating some artificial extra connection to their heroes there’s trouble in store.

    Read what I said.

If he was drink driving, I'd want him sold.

It's not even the drink driving. Nobody is a saint. But in this context? And this timeline?

There are thousands of fans who are dead, on the front line, aren't able to see their parents/grandparents/siblings, worried if their family will survive, and he, a multi-million just has to sit on his arse and play FIFA for a few months? And he can't do it without going round his mates, disobeying government orders?

This is all based on rumour.

If he just snuck out and went to his mates', I am **** off with him but stripping him of the captaincy and a heavy fine will suffice.

Why would you sell him if he was convicted of drink driving ? What other offences would lead to selling players in your view ?
