  1. I agree. It is really refreshing to see us being linked with Lambert, Solskjaer and Martinez, any of which I would be happy with. Can you believe it's only one week since AM was sacked! What a difference a week makes. The quality of managers on our apparent shortlist means that unless Randy really f*cks up we can start to enjoy being Villa fans again. C'mon Randy, don't let us down!
  2. Martinez was my first choice for Villa manager, although I would now be surprised if we get him. There is something visceral and organic about the OGS bandwagon which may have a unifying and healing effect at Villa if he were appointed. I think that the counterpoint to OGS is Lambert, a safe pair of hands with an impressive record. I'm sure Randy would like to talk to both RM and PL if he can, and then he will go with his own gut feeling.
  3. The fact that he's identified and talked to a really promising young manager in OGS shows that Randy does indeed have a clue. If he were to appoint OGS and it went well then he can take a lot of credit. If things don't go well then both Randy and the fans will hold their collective hands up and say "at least we gave it a real go!" I've edited this post to say to RL .... BE DECISIVE .... stop being so damned nice!!!!
  4. I'm not a betting man, but I'm backing Randy 100% to make it happen ....103 on facebook OGS.
  5. Both Lambert and OGS are good prospects. I think that if we can get OGS it will raise the media profile of the club, and undo a lot of the damage done by the last woeful appointment. OGS would probably put more bums on seats initially and sell more merchandise, so financially that would be a plus. I'm also guessing that compensation would be less. The next 2/3 seasons under Lambert would be reasonably safe and steady under his management, and imo would move us back into the top half of the Premiership. OGS would definitely be a more risky appointment, but if we don't take that risk and he eventually goes on to bigger and better things, we would kick ourselves for not being brave enough to have tried to get him. This is probably the only time in his career when he is likely to be available to us. Let's live a little and enjoy the excitement and uncertainty that employing Ole would entail. OGS for Villa! UTV!!!!
  6. Always goes for a win, even pulls key defenders off to put more strikers on, we even had 5 in one game!! Never settles for a draw, exciting and reckless at times...but never dull. Likes the passing game. Cheers mate, that would explain the goals conceded and the lack of clean sheets. He's certainly a much more effective manager than our last clown, but on balance I hope he stays at Carrow road and continues to do a good job for you.
  7. WIZ....WIZ....WIZ Just to get your attention .... how would you describe Paul Lamberts style of football?
  8. Given the amount of money VTers have on a certain Norwegian I'd say its pretty pointless. I don't think there's a large number who've risked hard cash!
  9. Mods .... do you think it's time for a poll to be added to this thread to see where VTers are at?
  10. The reason why I think OSG will be appointed is because of the (criteria) words used in PF's statement about the new management search. He used the words "reinvigorate" and "vibrancy," which could probably be applied to Martinez, Rodgers and OSG, and it seems that only OSG out of the three managers wants the job. Lambert could well "reinvigorate" with his man management abilities, but I dont think that anyone would describe either him or his brand of football as "vibrant."
  11. I'm not a betting man but I'm fairly confident that you wont end up with empty pockets.
  12. I found the last season or so under Mon frustrating and boring. For that reason I would rather that we employed a more exciting manager than Lambert, if it's possible.
  13. Molde play their last game before a three week break for the Euros on May 28th. I would think that if and when compensation has been agreed, OSG would sign for Villa on or about June 1st.
  14. That's a very obvious "I would love the job and would take it if it was offered to me."
  15. He's under contract and he's telling the truth that he hasn't had a job offer .... yet! What else could he say?
  16. I don't think it's the hype Richard, I think it's a genuine desire to see some excitement back in our Villa lives again. Lambert is the pragmatists favourite for the job, but I get the impression that even though a return to Mon style football with a bit more tactical nous would be much better than the last two seasons it would still be uninspiring. I think that Villa fans deserve more excitement and entertainment for their considerable investment in AVFC. That's what the clamour for OGS is all about imo.
  17. Lambert has done exceptionally well so far in his career. The downside to his brand of football is that it can take a team so far and yet no further. I think mid table is about right for a PL style team.
  18. You won't get permisson end of, our CEO went public on that last week. Now imo, that will result in two possible scenario's. 1. Lambert will resign. 2. He will comitt to us. But pining your hopes on a Daily Star article, dear oh dear gentleman. Wiz, take the time to read the OSG thread to see who the majority of Villa fans are pinning their hopes on.
  19. I agree, I think he would be a very safe pair of hands but would not bring the "vibrancy" that RL/PF are looking for.
  20. I agree with both B6 and Richard that the standard of candidates is higher this time. Ole would appear to be the least experienced guy on our shortlist. However, Lambert and Rodgers were considered too inexperienced last year and now they have been looked at by a bigger club than us. Ole may be a risky appointment but I get the feeling that if we aren't prepared to take that risk now, any further success by OSG at Molde would attract the attention of bigger clubs than us next season. I guess what I'm trying to say is this .... with hindsight the time to have signed Martinez/Lambert/Rodgers would have been last summer, before they became media darlings. It would have been seen as risky then and a brave or stupid thing to do, but with hindsight it would have benefitted us tremendously. We have the opportunity to get in first with Ole, it may not work out but we should be prepared to take the risk imo. We need some excitement at Villa after a mind numbing two and a half seasons. Ole could be the catalyst that makes it happen! UTV!!!!
  21. It would be good to have a manager who's used to winning at Villa Park! (pinched from Red Cafe  )
  22. It's gotta be quiet, because this is the moment that Randy is sharing his vision with OGS. Shoosh.
  23. I was hoping we could persuade Martinez to take the job, because I wanted to enjoy the experience of going to Villa Park and watching good football. That hasn't happened for at least two and a half seasons. The emergence of OSG as our new "Gaffer" has shocked and excited me at the same time. I'm gobsmacked that Randy has identified OSG as our next manager, but I'm now looking forward to a total breath of fresh air blowing through Villa Park. Randy might well be taking a risk, but it has to be done in order to relaunch the Villa project. UTV!!!!
  24. Get rid of the Solskjaer and it will be fine. Solskjær out! Blimey it didn't take long did it!
