Reported today that he has refused a contract at Man.City as they won't offer him 50k a week - the same figure Middlesbrough baulked at paying at the start of the season. Question is.......would we? Middlesbrough used to steal our players on the back of citing 'ambition' (more money) - how nice it would be for things to be in our favour from now on, huh?

I think, and as Brumiebloke has pointed out, charlton are going to have to be cute during the next few weeks - and Pardew may just decide to begin rebuilding for 'next year in the Chamiponship' now - with the outside hope that he can keep them up. I think if they adopt a policy of keeping everything as it is in the hope of keeping Premiership survival then they are taking one huge risk. As it is any money from selling Bent can be spent on enticing players to a Premiership Club. In 6 months time they may recieve the same money for Bent, but it will have to be spent on enticing players to a Championship Club. Lord knows who they would buy in either instance, but I should think there are loads of decent Championship players that would jump at the chance of playing for Charlton - leaving them in a much better position to come up next season - if they went down. ...and I wouldnt be suprised if Bent has a relegation clause in his contract. I really think we will be getting Distin. ....and no - I wouldnt want MON to spend anything more than he feels he needs to in order to push the club forward - but how many seasons are the likes of Gareth Barry realistically going to hang around for if the signings dont happen pretty quick?

Lancs, I access the Official Site for free, and am able to get 99% of the info I require - latest stories, ticket news etc etc. The only content I am not able to see for free are interviews, footage of games etc. basically, the stuff I think the club have a right to try and make money from...... I thought I would post this as your original post is a tad misleading in suggesting that you have to subscribe to get any sort of info from the OS - this is not the case. Cheers, Digs

Jez - seeing as you think that 99.9% of transfers are not possible, why do you continue to post in the transfer rumours and specualtion thread??? We have lost players we have wanted to keep in the past, yorke, Southgate, Ehiuogu, Boateng..........all left because, once more money is offered, and they are enticed - you just cant keep them. For once, I believe, and I may be proved to be wrong, the boot is on the other foot as we have the money to entice players that our 'rivals' don't want to lose. Would Pardew really turn down 13M to spend on his own players in his quest to keep charlton up?????? really??? Distin WILL go to the highest bidder, and whoever is willing to meet his 50k wage demands. Barton, if he has a clause, will most probably do likewise.....

Hi General - it is excellent to hear you say this. The destruction of the old Trinity Stand was nothing short of criminal IMO, vandalism of the highest order. With that stand went a little piece of our soul, and a large chunk of football heritage. Players used to sign for the club upon seeing the grandeur of the old Trinity Stand, I am sad that you will never have got to see it in its full beauty. If the new regime were able to get anywhere near 're-creating' what we had at the Trinity Stand then I think the Football Club would forever be in your debt. The breathing of life back into the old Holte Hotel, negelected for so many years is an excellent gesture - in many ways its a miracle it is still there. The pulling down of the Old Trinity, and its subsequent replacement sums up the old regime perfectly - I'll let you fill in the gaps! Cheers General K - Hope you have a great New Year

I am interested to find out why so many people think we are going to get Milner in January? They didnt want to sell him to us in August, and since then they have endured an injury list like no other - which got even worse last night with N'Zogbia being stretcherd off. Why would they sell him now?

I am not saying me might not spend say 15mil but on 3, 5mill players for example. I doubt 2, 10mill type players will be coming because clubs don't want to get rid in the middle of the season. The equation is not always so simple. A club may need an injection of cash, a player might be so pissed off at a club that it is better he moved on etc. (Reo-Coker) It will be tricky to get top players, trickier than the summer - but I wouldnt rule anything out TBH
