  1. And fans have just as much right to criticise the moaners who will always find something to moan about. If people can't see that this is a work in progress & is not going to be plain sailing every week then there is no hope for them.
  2. Agree with most of this although I'd say Baccuna is also a better defender than Lowton. Thought Baccuna struggled in midfield against Liverpool but will give him the benefit of the doubt given it was his first start. If ha could match the performances he's shown at RB in midfield then we'll have some player on our hands. Baccuna, Benteke & Guzan are the 1st 3 names on the team sheet for me. Add Delph to that when he's back.
  3. Oh teacher LOOK! LOOK! that nasty Butterfingers is not complying to guidelines ROFL
  4. as I think I've had cause to mention before, stupid comments like this appear to be specifically against the posting guidelines of this site. Why not have a look at them some time. More importantly, perhaps, they break the rule of trying not to say stupid things. Do you mean like picking petty faults such as goal celebrations against Man City because you've got nothing else to moan about? LOl Couldn't resist could you? Don't smile mate-Your face might crack
  5. Well the doom & gloom brigade are conspicuous in their absence tonight. This time last year, there were moans & groans about the defence "Lambert can't defend" etc, etc. Credit to the defence this season, they have stepped up to the challenge. Top half of the table tonight boys- Who would have settled for that this time last year? Dare we hope for any higher? The development & progress is continuing. How many sides have beaten Cardiff this season by 2 clear goals? Not every game is going to be edge of seat stuff & sometimes, a result like this that is ground out is more satisfying than tippy, tappy 1/2 touch football-Welcome to the Premier League. Just to add we had at least 5 1st choice players out, changed the formation & got 3 points.
  6. "Did we have a plan"? Fu##in priceless Did we have a plan though ? - I always thought Baker coming in for Clark was key, Lambert dispensed totally with Ireland \ Bent - and we knew what we had to do.......win games !!!!!! draws wouldn't be enough. Did we have a plan ? or did the best team + tactics present itself ?. Weiman IMO should have been dropped a few games back (much like Clark last season) - so perhaps the best combination will present itself again. Whilst I haven't been taken with Kozak - Benteke came to life when he came on today .....
  7. Tottenham have just spent £80 million & they're scraping 1-0 wins playing shit football What do you expect or demand for a £15mil investment?
  8. There's another stat for you to add to the collection then
  9. Has Lambert snubbed you for an interview at some point?
  10. I do hate it when people post stuff like this. The whole basis of this site is that people support Villa, otherwise, they would be wasting their time posting here. However irritating or bonkers you find their ideas, everyone is expressing their views as a fan, so comments like this are quite out of place and offensive. Offensive in what way? Every post of his is a pop at Lambert but he half heartedly backs him but he hasn't got the backbone to actually come out and say he wants him gone which I'd actually give him more credit for. This a site where the only thing that unites all posters is the fact that they support Aston Villa. If you can't see how telling someone to support another club when they disagree with you is inappropriate and offensive, I'm not sure I can help any further. But if you demand top notch football & top 6 finishes every year (& by the way you & your ilk continually moan, only this seems acceptable to you) then Aston Villa is clearly not the team for you. Genuine Villa fans know that the above has been the rarity, not the norm & as you never provide benchmarks to justify your moans, you are either naive or are moaning for moanings sake. I think someone skipped the posts with actual facts. Oh well. You keep cheering bottom half finishes and survival. Nobody is cheering & the thread is full of facts & stats from both sides of the argument(most of them pointless) Anybody with half a brain ought to be able to work out that you can't sell all your best players, slash your wage bill & give your manager a shoestring budget & still expect top half finishes.

  12. When you consider we had the likes of Young, Downing, Walker & an on fire Bent under Houllier, you would expect the results to be better. Last season was a real low & a massive gamble that worked largely because of Wigans cup run. There was a clear remit to get rid of the troublemakers & high earners & replace them with young, hungry players on much lower wages. We scraped through. The squad is a year older & wiser and has some healthy additions. We WILL finish higher this season than we did under AM
  13. We did actually beat Liverpool but in general I agree with your point Fair play- I forgot about that one Put another way, from the same set of home fixtures last season, 0 points. Think Spurs was a lot closer this time around & Everton certainly knew they'd been in a game on Saturday
  14. People should be aware that last season, we didn't beat a top 8 side. We clearly struggle against the better teams. With the exception of Newcastle, all our home games have been against teams from last seasons (& probably this seasons) top 7. On paper, 3 points was to be expected & anything else a bonus. If we had drawn against Newcastle & taken points from 2 of the other sides, maybe the home points tally wouldn't look so bad. I thought we did well against Everton on Saturday & created chances, more so than against Liverpool or Spurs - Or even Newcastle. Maybe the next few games will give a truer indication of where we are in terms of progress? Around 12th is a definite improvement on last season.
  15. Remind us again how many goals Gabby's scored this season?
  16. Can Lambert play no other way then without a traditional No. 9 though? The Kozak signing would suggest so. Anybody can field a side on paper without a traditional No 9 my friend-Even you. We could even play a 6 man midfield like Barcelona but I doubt we'll win many games. Please try to understand this: We have no money, we are shopping in bargain basement. At the start of last season we had players like Bannan, Herd, Holman, Lijha & even Delfounseo starting games. You cannot change an entire team overnight. If you look at the signings made from last year, only Benteke & Vlaar started yesterday & only Bacuna, Tonev & Luna from this year. In two summer windows, we've changed around half of the side. With the budget we have, this rebuild is going to take time & I'm not sure how far people expect us to progress with the money available? We have to compete at this level. Looking at Norwich with Holt, I'd say that Lambert prefers this traditional method (as do most managers in the middle to bottom half of the table) Perhaps they are all wrong & you are right?
  17. We can all question decisions & performances. I've no problem with that. The problem I have is that it's constant-Even the Man City win has been reduced to some kind of freak result in which the goal celebrations were insincere & have been seen on MOTD prior to the Man City game. & I'll stick around on the fan forum, criticising the criticisers-If it's all right with you of course.
  18. Because once you support a club, you stick with them? Pretty obvious answer. Well stick with them & get behind them then. Do you think they purposely go out to play badly or to loose? We're no worse than any of the teams around us & better than some. Mid table is an improvement after 3 successive relegation battles-What did people expect? A top 6 finish?
  19. Yes I am-Lets go out & play 1/2 touch football every week & go out & outpass teams like Arsenal & Spurs What about teams like Norwich and Hull? I don't expect us to out play top teams but against Chelsea and Liverpool we kept the ball well at times and tried to play football. This seems to have stopped since then. You're a little defensive. It's ok to not say everything's great all the time. Nothing bad will happen. Norwich & Hull we took 4 points away from home. Lambert took over a side that had been in the relegation scrap for the previous 2 seasons. We're moving in the right direction, the side is improving-It won't happen overnight but lets get behind the lads eh? When you have idiots who find something to complain about even the goalscoring celebrations then you have a problem-My attitude is get behind the team/management, we know they haven't got boatloads of money to compete so lets see where it ends
  20. Remember folks, you can't criticise any aspect of the Lambert regime or it automatically means you want him gone. You criticise all aspects of it you crank-Even down to goalscoring celebrations
  21. Yes I am-Lets go out & play 1/2 touch football every week & go out & outpass teams like Arsenal & Spurs
  22. SACK LAMBERT TOMORROW ISA knows best Even the goalscoring celebrations against Man City were not real according to some of the "experts" on here
  23. Tough call. My feeling is that he was fit last week & has trained with Belgium this week. I would have liked him to have had an easy 20 minutes against Wales in what was the equivalent of a friendly with nothing at stake. Kozac has come in & done a great job for us, not letting us down in the 3 games he's played in. he scored the winner at Norwich & made the winner against Man City. Who'd be a manager? My guess is that Villa will asses Benteke, pass him fit & start him. I'd do the same & suspect he was probably fit before last week but Villa wanted to err on the side of caution by not wishing him to play for Belgium-Again. I'd have done the same. As for idiots thinking Spurs is not winnable-What do they think Man City was? Thank God that our players don't think the same, otherwise there would be no point any of us turning up on Sunday & we could all get the lawns mowed instead.
  24. The Man City game further demonstrates how the team has improved. They withstood pressure from one of the best teams in the world and managed to score 3 goals. Anyone notice the doom & gloom brigade don't highlight the fact that we outplayed Chelsea on their own ground for long periods, were denied a blatent penalty & then lost to a goal scored by a player who shouldn't have been on the pitch?
  25. Of course he isn't & you know it. Which part of his post suggested any such thing? With regards Benteke, Lambert replaced Sylla when Westwood was fit again recently. He's not frightened to make changes like this so I'd expect Benteke to start on Sunday.
