  1. Until Ings gets to play more than a handful of games, he's not going to find his scoring form. Look at his career, he scores lots when he's playing every game and doesn't when he is in and out of the team.
  2. It's the difference between teams with technical ability (Spurs) and teams that work hard (Villa). If you have talented players, it's easy to score with limited chances, but workman like teams give up good chances all the time without scoring. We've very little technical ability in our squad, so we give away, and miss, a lot.
  3. Doubt anywhere would give you odds on it. Gerrard's record isn't really any better than Smiths was
  4. Every game McGinn makes at least 2 of those sloppy cross field passes opening our defence. Man's a complete liability
  5. Which should tell us the manager doesn't think he's ready. He's only on the bench because we have no better options for the position he plays, not because he's ready for first team football. If we sign a CDM he will be loaned out next season to get first team experience and prove he has what it takes
  6. Difference is he wouldn't have seen sakas shot until it passed the last defender who was just a few meters in front of him. Saying he should have saved it is massively harsh. Few keepers in the world would have stopped it.
  7. Andy Cole used to score bags of goals let's sign him... Yeah, I don't care what his stats were at Norwich, in his current season at Villa his pressing has been poor and his tackling success even worse. We can afford 1 passenger in some games, but never 2. And both were passengers against Arsenal for large portions of the game.
  8. In a game where you know you are going to have a very small percentage of possession, why play 2 guys in Coutinho and Buendia who offer pretty much nothing off the ball? Massive error in judgement from Gerrard. Couple that with the fact that the team was clearly instructed to sit back and not employ a high press and that's 2 huge errors from Gerrard. Not the first time he has made these mistakes - he needs to start learning if he wants a job beyond Christmas. Positive changes 2nd half, we looked far better with wingers and Ings up top. But still not good enough. McGinn in particular for me gave away possession in dangerous areas multiple times and failed to impose himself on the game. Ramsey was also poor. I still am mystified how neither of them have been rested given the options we have at CM. All in all, for me, Gerrard more than individual players cost us the game. I think he set us up wrong, wrong formation and wrong lineup. Took him way too long to change it.
  9. Chill out? On this form we could still get relegated.
  10. Looks to me like Gerrard has been found out. His tactics don't work in a competitive league and he's either too inexperienced to too afraid to make changes. Big words after Newcastle that changes would be wrung and he made 1 - pathetic. Not nearly as pathetic as the teams performance. Too many players going through the motions because they know they'll get picked regardless.
  11. Ings hit the post so that's at least 1 chance created
  12. Ings looks more dangerous than Watkins but overall we look relatively easy to defend against so far.
  13. I didn't want either of them at the club and I maintain that stance. With the money ploughed into this club over the last few seasons, that we are producing such criminally poor performances and still have no real identity on the pitch is a travesty.
  14. We've conceded 1.6 per game under him, so I strongly disagree
  15. Second game in a row where the opposition forced us to play the way they wanted us to play. From back to front 9n on the bench, there is no intelligence, no leadership, no guile, no clue. A squad of sheep, and a coaching team out of their depth. Martinez - 5 - needs dropping. Making poor decisions every game, sloppy mistakes. Should not have charged off his line when Mings had it covered, poor for their goal and failed to dominate his box. Cash - 5 - gets into good positions going forward but lacks the quality to make the most 9f them. Defensive out of position and fails to chase back often. Chambers - 6 - free kick aside I thought he was ok. Mings - 7 - no big mistake today, but wants to play the ball in bad positions far too often. Digne - 6 - ok McGinn - 5 - not good enough. He's one of our senior 0layers and our vice captain but he's not a leader and makes as many errors as anyone. Luiz - 6 - better first half than second but our midfield is weak right now. Ramsey - 5 - anonymous first half, relatively poor second. Doesn't do enough defensively to play as one of the midfield 3 for me. I'd happily see him and Phil play as the 2 10s. Buendia - 6 - tried hard but lacked quality Coutinho - 5 - failed to get involved and the game passed him by. Watkins - 3 - can't seem to run, can't seem to pass, can't win headers can't control. The ball goes to him and comes right back. Needs dropping. Ings - 6 - held up play ok. Not enough time to make an impact. Bailey - 5 - tried hard but nothing came off. Understandable given how long he's been out. Chuk - 5 - not great, was never going to improve the game. Gerrard - 4 - he's taken a team that was defensively solid and made them a laughing stock. He's playing a style and system that doesn't suit the 0layers he has. Davis would be perfect in this system but he let him leave. I really don't think he knows what to do. Can see us getting pulled into the relegation scrap unless something changes. We're in relegation form 0laying like relegation contenders. Worrying
  16. Really think you've mixed up a few players here... You thought Young played ok? Attempted 16 passes completed 2 with a pass rate of 16% that's ok? Chuk had a completion rate of 78% with a much better progressive pass rate but he was not ok? Similarly McGinn and Luiz: Luiz had a better pass completion, better tackle success, won possession more lost possession less. Neither were good, but of the 2 McGinn was not the better. I do 100% agree on Watkins, he's not strong enough and his first touch is shocking. Ings isn't the answer which is why I feel letting Davis and Archer out 9n loan was a mistake as it leaves us no options. Both are doing very well in the champ and would have offered us something different as Watkins is well and truly off his game. Agree with the Cash assessment too, constantly out of position and lost most of his duels. Interestingly his pass completion was only 50% too which at this level is horrific. He makes big tackles and gets into good positions offensively but lacks the quality to be effective imo. Personally I think Guilbert is the better of the 2.
  17. With performances like that he won't get a full season
  18. Interestingly, I didn't think Cash had a bad game but all Leeds best moments came down his side. Similarly, I didn't think Digne was great, but very little came down his side. Weird one
  19. Id say physically dominated, battered and bruised. But we played into their hands.
  20. Thought Archer looked decent in spots tonight for PNE.
  21. Perspective? 1 or 2 players aside, we looked like a pub team tonight. Nowhere near good enough and not for the first second or 3rd time.
  22. Absolute garbage. We allowed Leeds to dictate the play, and bring us into a physical battle which we do not have the players to do. Fortunately we have a few players with individual quality (Coutinho and Ramsey) but by and large we were poor and at times embarrassingly so. SG setup up poorly to face Leeds and his changes were equally ineffective. Overall, I'm really embarrassed by what I saw. Like watching pub players hitting each other with the occasional nice touch. Pathetic from top to bottom and Newcastle will beat us if we play like that at the weekend as they have better players than Leeds I am very worried for this team after tonight
  23. I'm actually embarrassed to be a villa fan tonight
