  1. correct Gringo it is not personally his fault this is the point it is the fault of all economies who followed the same model of loser and loser regulation. All countries in trouble with their banks allowed this to occur under whatever colour. Do you really think if the Tories had been in power they would have done anything different. Over int he states both the Dems and Reps did it. A few months OK, you had Osbourne going around claiming he would reduce public spending by cutting red tape, you don;t hear that any more do you ? less and less regulation only breeds complancey and contempt
  2. Ian is right Gringo, you know and are astutue enough to know that if the government had took more regulations the city would have screamed, the Tories would have decyed the amount of red tape and Labour would have been accused of 'micro managing' the economy they could not win. However now is the time that regulations can be put into place and the bankers can not squeal, I hope the opporuntiy is taken both sides of the atlantic
  3. where about in Great Barr and Amy at 2 and half recognises the badge - Villlaaaa and when we play on TV got her to boo any team that plays in Blue, she gets confused by West Ham and Burnley though as she cheers them !! Sorry to bump ,but just seen your post.. Live now on Newton Rd (about 5 mins walk away from Scott Arms pub) (and no, not actually living in the middle of a dual carriage way ) The youngest Grandson will be 2 this May, Got him to say Villa ,before mommy, daddy, nanny .Trouble is he doesnt know the difference when watchin footie on TV and thinks all teams are called Villa Ok I live on the Pheasey Amy just can not recognise the difference between us and West Ham but every time the badge is shown ... indoctrination eh ?
  4. as you say another thread but it's not as black and white as you try and make it appear ... if an elederly relative needs 24 hour medical care then they simple cannot live at home of course not but you would admit a lot can be looked after at home ... it is difficult and the costs are enormous and will only get worse
  5. there never was Gringo and all of is knows what will happen after this is over from a poltival point of view though do you see any alternatives that other parties (all over the world) are saying that would be any different or makes thinsg better ?
  6. Hi General, first I echo what BCV has said. secondly any news of any possible tribute for Vic and Johnny at the Wigan game ? cheers, Ian
  7. over here you would have to sell it to pay for the nursing care so at least the family don't have to squabble differet debate and a very interesting one on who should pay and fund the massive costs in respite care when the family does not care enough to look after one of their own but that is for another thread
  8. woul not surprise you that I totally agree on this and you have summed it up brilliantly, if I knew I coul get a cheaper rented house on a long term lease (say 10 years for security) I would sell my place now. Problem is whilst renting is on comparable prices as a mortgage (well for me) there is simply no incentive to rent I will be 55 when my mortgage is paid off, great ...
  9. do these people realise thje consequences if the government had not done this ?? actually there is no reall poltical opposyion to these moves because if it had not been doe, HBOS and RBS would have gone tits up maybe they should have been allowed to but do peopel serouly want a depression ?
  10. some peopel made have made a killing out of this ...
  11. are these the same agencies who rated the toxic loans AAA+ ?
  12. Hi General, every Villa fan around the world will be very very sad to have heard within two days of the passing of two Villa greats, Johnny Dixon and Vic Crowe. these two players for older supporters hold very cherished memories and it can be argued that Vic helped to save the club the best thing we can do to cherish their memories is to acheive something this season they should provide great inspiration for the current sqaud.
  13. officially in a recession now not exactly a shock agriculture being the only industry that is still growing which is strange I guess
  14. Gavin check this out Newky lost £32m last year and obviously they will be worse off this season as well ... I reckon any decent bid for Owen (around £5m) will get him whether we are interested is another matter
  15. I suspect he was MON's first choice this window and 2/3rd choice behind gabby
  16. well it i not impossible is it, is Owen really goig to want to stay there especially as Given will go ?
  17. Thought it was markets? Is housing not a market ?? in fact in many ways the ourest form of any market we have ?
  18. yes Lev, there was intervention by clinton to fufill the dream of an home owning demcoracy, I hope the oidea that everyone should buy their own homes is dead, that is the root cause of this problem and the one back in the 90's we never learn
  19. yes they do Gringo, the free marketers were desperate for total freedom, they got it and blew it as I have said so many times ALL TO BLAME
  20. a simple rule should be a;pplied that no high street bank can be an investment bank seperate the two in fact we have the model that should be adhered to, the building soceities Interesting response on two accounts. Firstly the point you are making has a hair breadth's relevance to tinkers point that you quoted. Secondly, doesn't this contradict the point from a couple of days ago that "the markets" were to blame for all of this. what I meant si s if they were seperated then you can allow investment banks to fail and thus no need for government backed trades if the high street banks are seperate the 'normal person is protected. Clearly the market is to blame because the market demanded and encouraged the formation of these 'super banks' the market now has to be propped up by teh state Wasn't it right that int he US these banks were seperated by law after the depression until a few years ago when that was repealed (was it Clinton or Bush ?)

  22. sounds quite positive to me .... is the era of nationalisation on us ?
  23. there is Johnson as mentioned and thats it ...
  24. where about in Great Barr and Amy at 2 and half recognises the badge - Villlaaaa and when we play on TV got her to boo any team that plays in Blue, she gets confused by West Ham and Burnley though as she cheers them !!
  25. always said it Gringo, Markets place the emphasis on profits and increasing 'shareholder value' this encourages greed this encourages risk taking the more unregulated the market is the worse it gets and so we get to where we are now
