Heard some absolute moron of a Liverpool fan slagging us off for wanting him gone. His argument was that we don’t know anything because he was a brilliant player. As if that makes him a good manager.

If Kloop left tomorrow would he take him at Liverpool ..no chance so jog on

Well, at least the stepping stone, theory to Liverpool is dead and buried.....so much for that prediction.

I'd love a manager to come here as a stepping stone to a so called bigger club , to do that he would need to be great with us .Every Manger we have had since I have supported us bar GT going to England as steped down after us ..

  4. I don't think you can play a 3 with Ramsey / McGinn to start with but having them on the wrong side for their stronger foot doesn't help !

Fundermentally as per pix above this isnt just about players it's the coaching and tactics .They are playing in the positions intstructed that's the key issue.

  5. Frankly I find it unbelievable we are apparantly letting him spend more money after this shambles. He is Bruce MK2 buy buy buy .

The mf 3 are a mess and for someone who played that position with some distinction how he can't see this I don't know. You can't play that 3 in those positions.McGinn is miles to deep to be effective long gone is the McGinn who gets forward and creates or scores .Now he is left sitting deep on the right side attempting to float balls cross pitch to Digne .

Talking of I'm becoming more convinced he is not that much of a step up on Targett and for 25mip plus is he really the best LB we could of gotten ..great scouting .

Ramsey great running with the ball ,hamped like McGinn being on the wrong side but the issue is in this formation you need mf calmer on ball.

Defence all over the place ,Konsa is miles off his best perhaps coming back from injury too quickly ..Set pieces we look nevery as hell

Under Smith we would ,especially post Jack go direct to Watkins running into a channel from a lump from Mings and here we are almost a year later and still doing it .What identity has SG put on this team exactly ..It you had been locked on a space station for a year with no news and came and watched this game you would have no clue we had changed manger

And what is the answer to these crap performances ..here you go Stevie here is another 25 mil for an attacker of the known quantity .See here is the thing - we ditched the young and up and coming transfers for known exp pro's ,when you do that you do it  for instant results .Which we are not getting so just how long to we persist with this ?

I don't see any points from the next three games so leaving him a record of 3 wins in 16 if I'm not mistaken ,( against 2 sides no longer in the league and Everton)

  6. So we lose to Bournmouth and Palace mostly due to an inffectional ( and imo poorly coached ) Mf and the answer is 25 mil on another attacker ..

I guess this is so when we punt it to Watkins someone might be closer to him because that's pretty much out one tactic

  7. If he is talking about Gabby gets him to avoid the 4 point cushion City have on him and his new Star striker headbutting a player and getting a Red on his debut .It's deflection from Klopp. Also if your in a team that got batterd  6 nil and were useless you probably are an expect in not putting in a shift and know the signs ..

Generally I find Gabby a nob but Klopp is also a huge bellend most of the time

Probably a load of rubbish, but  players that fit the description:

    • Danjuma
    • Moreno
    • Depay
    • Isak
    • Raul de Tomas
    • Morata (money laundering option)
    • Inaki Williams
    • Umar Sadiq

    Sadiq is going Villareal

    Depay Juventus

  9. Beckham did it and came back and played for a few more years , Hudson-Odoi also suffered it recently. Closer to home Benteke did it and came back though arguably was never quite the same.

Futher back 2 players who suffered it Neil Webb ( Carried on but career nose dived afterwords ) and John Barnes ( never got his pace back )

Quote I've seen today is 7-9 months out

  10. In terms of time needed ,in SG case we have a direct comparrison with Howe as both took over clubs at about the same time and Howe's results and performances are miles ahead of SG.

So yes time is required but after 9 months ,2 windows and a preseason you should see something but with 4 of his own players making up the starting 11 now we look no different then the end of DS time.

We played alot of long balls Saturday so either that's his direction or the players are not listening either way it's not a good reflection on him.

  11. Poch I can't see why he wouldn't come if he was still jobless and we needed a manager .None of the top UK jobs are available so why wouldn't be come to us with rich owners and no doubt a good salary .Wouldn't it be better to be doing a good job somewhere of one of the so called big jobs came up .If that means we are a stepping stone so be it because if a manager of us is doing well enough to be poached it means we are winning games !!

Rodgers probably more likely especially given Leicester seemingly are broke .

Everton is must win for SG imo but to be honest as a villa fan since 1990 I've seen enough times when the writings on the wall and I don't see SG here much longer.

  12. Wanted him to do well ,it started ok but in the last  13 games we have only beaten Burnley and Norwich ! He can talk about Europe all he wants but what's on the pitch isn't backing those comments up.

I've the same vibes I had near the end of Smith .He has 10 games at most to turn it around or he will be gone and of I was owners I would be questioning Purslow as well

The bad signs IMO were as follows:

    • Purslow trying to convince the fans that Ings + Bailey + Buendia was some kind of pre-planned move to replace Grealish, when we all know Buendia was coming anyway, and Ings is a completely different player who didn't really suit our setup.
    • No serious investment in other areas of the pitch besides obvious squad players (Young, Tuanzebe), when we all knew we needed competition for places at CDM (especially) and full back (with Guilbert leaving).
    • The way Suso was scapegoated the summer before, when by all accounts he followed Purslow's brief.
    • The obvious lies about Grealish's buyout clause, which are fair enough tbh (why advertise it?), but review some of the things that were said and you realise we were all severely misled - perhaps that stretches to ROK and Terry.
    • The mysterious injury to Grealish, who has been absolutely fine so far at City.
    • And then JT leaving just as he appeared to be becoming increasingly influential on match days.

You can see this all as Smith losing authority, or you can see it as Purslow meddling, or maybe a third party undermining things (Shakespeare). It's so hard to tell from the outside, isn't it, until someone spills to a journo?

My general view is that most managers achieve "par" for their squad over the long-term, and only a handful (Klopp etc) dramatically improve a side with their ability and personality. Especially nowadays when so much is handled by data teams, analysts, coaches, etc.

So when things are going wrong, it's easy to point the finger at the manager, and I agree he is having a nightmare at the moment. But I doubt he's the only problem, and I doubt sacking him mid-season will fix everything.

One of the best things Brighton did was give Hughton a full season before replacing him with Potter. Didn't destabilise the club, gave Potter a whole summer to work with the team. Unless we're really flirting with relegation (seems unlikely to me tbh), I would plan to do the same here with Smith, unless things really are completely ****ed in the dressing room.

We are , 5 wins in 27 is the stat I saw earlier in this thread and conceding 2 or more goals game after game - only Norwich IMO look worse than us and maybe Newcastle , but the latter obviously will recruit a new boss and through millions at it in Jan.
