  1. If Baros comes in and Vassell goes, weve sold one pacey striker who cant score and bought......well, another pacey striker who cant score. If Baros was to form part of a quartet which included Vass, then fair enough. There's no point if Vass is leaving though as our strike force would still include three main strikers and a youngster who still doesnt seem ready for the PL.
  2. Liverpool - 106(40) apps, 27 goals = 3.926 Non-L'Pool - 61(0) apps, 12 goals = 5.083 Overall domestic career - 167(40) apps, 39 goals = 4.282 International - 37(6) apps, 25 goals = 1.480 Overall - 204(46) apps, 64 goals = 3.188 Vassell Overall domestic (Villa) - 201(77) apps, 44 goals = 4.568 International - 22 (19) apps, 6 goals = 3.667 Overall - 223(95) apps, 50 goals = 4.460
  3. This is from the same newsgroup that gave us such recent 'exclusives' as: Villa in for Saviola & £11M Bellamy and Distin swoop. Hurry up DOL and dismiss these latest reports.
  4. Whilst we are touting players good on FM (but shit in real life) D'Allesandro anyone :winkold:
  5. Bringing him in and turfing Vassell out is a no-brainer if you ask me. If we do sign Baros, then surely DOL would also keep Vass. We'd have a decent(ish) quartet then with Luke Moore playing a bit part role. However Baros wouldnt be first choice so why come from the Liverpool bench to sit on the Villa bench? :?
  6. Benitez is being quite coy about whether he wants to sell him. It seems he might be prepared to do business if he gets a decent offer. Thats us out of the running then.
  7. If you're sick of that then we better not buy Baros either :winkold:
  8. I posted these Baros stats yesterday. If we compare his overall domestic average with Vassell, then they are both as bad as each other. Baros' international goal scoring rate is impressive but we arent the Czech Rep. Baros Stats: Liverpool - 106(40) apps, 27 goals = 3.926 Non-Liverpool - 61(0) apps, 12 goals = 5.083 Overall domestic career - 167(40) apps, 39 goals = 4.282 Czech Rep - 37(6) apps, 25 goals = 1.480 Overall - 204(46) apps, 64 goals = 3.188 Premier League only: Goals: 19 Avg goals/game: 0.29 Appearances: 66 Subs. (on/off): 21/25 Vass Villa - 201(77) apps, 44 goals = 4.568 International - 22 (17) apps, 6 goals = 3.667 Overall - 223 (95) apps, 50 goals = 4.460 Premier League only: Goals: 35 Avg goals/game: 0.22 Appearances: 162 Subs. (on/off): 55/45
  9. There isnt an option for 'busting one into Potato Heads daughter' so Im going to have to say 'first teamer leaving people asking why'.
  10. Isnt the new kit released today? Some rumour mongers had this day down as when we would reveal a new signing - to coincide with the kit launch.
  11. It seems the Man City fans just reckon all this talk of Distin leaving is just his agent (Willie McKay) trying to stir things up and potentially earn him a better contract. Was a formal bid actually made for Distin?
  12. Distin is signing this week, just like he was last week, and the week before that, and the one before that....... Im not sure whether the fact that it's gone quiet re: Distin is a good or bad thing?
  13. They certainly did and we also have no chance (if there ever was one) of signing him
  14. Did anyone honestly mention Richardson before he put in a decent performance against the almighty footballing nation that is the United States? :?
  15. I see one of our 'nearest rivals' are making inroads to sign one of the best strikers available this summer - Yakubu! So if they get him then thats another 10 steps forward they take whilst we mess around with trying to sign Phillips
  16. We established a few pages ago that the 'one season wonder' option should have been worded better and actually should be something to the effect of 'His best years are behind him' - so take it as that and not what it says.
  17. Thank you for what? Because Ligs made a point that doesnt really say much? You said, in your slightly provocative way ( ) that Liverpool had a bad season. Now I think you will find thats not exactly the case. Even your mate Ligs said that the champions league run helped them, which seems to say it wasnt a bad season. Definition of a good season would be what in your world? Get real, there are 3 teams that can win the league, Liverpool even by their own admission are not one of them. They are amongst the other teams who challenge for fu=ourth place, maybe a cup run / win and anything else. Oh thats exactly what they have done. I agree with Drat. How on earth anyone can think Liverpool have had a bad season is beyond me! Champions League finalists, which they might win considering Milan didnt deserve to go through, and still in the hunt for fourth place! Liverpool are in the process of building under Benitez so the best league position they could reasonably expect this year was fourth.
  18. Im not saying we should replace Angel, rather I would like to see us break the bank and purchase a decent striker to play alongside him. However, if it absolutely came down to it then I think Yakubu or Keane would be decent replacements Yakubu - played in a piss poor team but 28 league goals in 66 league games -Argue that this is overrated!? :? Keane - 39 league goals in 98 games - this isnt a smaller goal return in the last three seasons. Angel - 23 league goals in 81 games. (Stats PL website for last three seasons) Or since Angel has been at the club Keane - 51 league goals in 141 league games (1 in 2.76) Angel - 36 league goals in 107 games! (About 1 in 2.97) Interpret that as you will!
  19. Its a sincere reflection of our season when it is so hard to pick one (and its obviously not because theyve all been brilliant). Ive gone for Nobby but how a player wins it who hasnt turned up for half of the games further highlights our cack season
  20. Yeah apologies for the wording of the poll - the one season wonder option should have been something like 'His best years are behind him'. In 01/02 he scored 16 in about 30 appearances and even under GTmkII he managed to grab 3 in 9. This has been a poor season by his high standards but I still voted that he is class and will come back better than ever.
  21. I am a big JPA but his performances this season have been a great concern to everyone. Once again he didnt look interested and looks a shadow of his former self (or at least of last season). To be a truly great player, you need to perform season upon season (with an allowance for minor blips in the middle); however, JPA has had a season long blip and my confidence in him is starting to truly diminish. I hope he goes away, reflects on the season, works hard in the summer and comes back stronger than ever. We all know he has had his problems this season with a lack of a regular partner (or at least one who he can work with), plus various injuries and niggles, and a lack of form/confidence but sometimes he has looked woeful - even after reassurances of his fitness and confidence. So....Do people think he will come back and prove his critics wrong next season by emulating or eclipsing last season; do you think he was a flash in the pan/a one season wonder; or do you just not know anymore. P.S This could be an interesting debate so please can this be a sensible discussion and not descend into mindless arguing.
  22. Its also nice with a bit of cheese.
