I wanted to take advantage of my isolation and grow a wild beard. Turns out though I’ve developed alopecia of the face and now have bald patches in my stubble. Why the hell that’s happened I’ve no idea? It wouldn’t be so bad if it was the whole beard, I wouldn’t have to shave again. But it’s only in patches, meaning I have to shave everyday to not look like a weirdo.

Has anyone here ever had this happen?

Yes mate, I’m currently going through it myself. Have you had any bad stress recently? Are you aware of any underlying health condition you might have?

There is no hard evidence that stress causes it (as it’s virtually impossible to empirically prove) but there’s certainly a strong belief that a stress event can trigger an occurrence of alopecia. I lost my Dad last year which is what seemed to cause mine.
I went to see a GP who diagnosed alopecia but suggested I’d be best to see a dermatologist. I get private healthcare through work, but the provider won’t cover alopecia treatment unless it is caused by an underlying health condition (such as a thyroid problem). I had my bloods tested and they all came back normal. As a starting point, I’d get yours checked and go from there.

In terms of treatment, I didn’t want to **** about - I always have stubble as being clean shaven doesn’t suit me - so I found a top dermatologist on Harley Street. He prescribed two creams (Elidel and Elocon), a lotion (Minoxidil) and a course of steroid tablets. I started the creams & lotion, but not the tablets as they lower your immune system*.

I had to get the cream through the dermatologist’s private prescription (they’re about ~£80 for the two) whilst the Minoxidil can be found cheaper online (Kirkland brand). If you can get an NHS GP to prescribe you the stuff then it would be at NHS prescription prices (£9 per item or something?).

My bald patch is under my chin, around part of my neck area. I’ve recently started to see some regrowth from just the creams and lotion. I’m hoping that they’ll do the trick alone, the regrowth will continue and thicken up, and that I won’t ever need the tablets (which I wouldn’t now use until COVID-19 is under control and there’s a vaccination). Good luck and DM me if you need any more info.

*Massive credit to the specialist who suggested I held back on the tablets until Coronavirus was better understood as he warned it could get nasty and end up here (my first consultation with him was back in Feb edit: actually it was January) so that was some excellent foresight by him.

I dont miss it at all and if honest have barely watched a full game all season thats not Villa. Truth is the Premier League is a whole pile of hyped up crap and I know some people thinks its a "lack of ambition" but the Championship was a hell of a lot more fun

We’re going to lose Grealish anyway, and whilst I’d be gutted, that’s not a concern of mine. His talents deserve better and I’d wish him all the best. He should be ending his career with some serious silverware. It’s a dream to think that he’ll achieve that here.

Mings is a top guy and an important player to have around because of his general stature and personality, but I wouldn’t be too gutted if he decided the PL is where he wants to be.

SJM: I’m not sure about him anyway and think he’s a Championship player. If another club decides he’s worth a sizeable amount then I’d take it and the money would come in handy.

As long as Purslow and the owners are as good as we think they are, they’ve managed the finances prudently, and prepared us for the worst, we’ll still have a football club to support. So all in all, relegation wouldn’t bother me one iota. It’ll be rubbish if we go down and go on losing streaks again*, but that’s down to the manager, and if that happens, then he should be replaced, but I would stick with him for the time being if we got relegated.

*I’m still unsure whether Smith’s arse was only saved last season purely because he had the benefit of a once in a generation player.

  3. @markavfc40 It’s in a hotel. I was expecting the same thing to happen and that the venue would cancel, but apparently not. It’s probably greed i.e. that the wedding represents a healthy profit for one day to the venue so they’re just unwilling to cancel.

  4. Well I’m expected at a wedding this weekend. It’s going to be a ~3 hour drive of which I’ll be stuck in a car with others who need a lift or I’m debating whether to get a train (social distancing might be easier if the carriages are empty) .

I’m then going to be in a venue of around 150 people for about 5/6 hours.

I’m torn: I don’t want to miss a friend’s “big day” (although  I **** hate that phrase) but also don’t want to congregate in such a large gathering.
**** knows what to do. I was hoping the bride and groom would see some sense, and call it off/postpone, but nope - plans go ahead as scheduled.

  5. I’ve seen stuff being passed around Whatsapp and on Twitter about how someone has “heard from a good source” about the exact day that London will go into lockdown including plans for deployment of the military/police.

People are so desperate for likes and internet kudos (attention) that they’re even pretending to be ITK with COVID-19 plans. FFS.

Similar here, it doesn't mix brilliantly, but give it a really good shake and it's not too bad.  It's definitely runnier than the properly made sanitiser gel, but as long as the alcohol content is high enough, it'll do the job.  It seems to evaporate on my hands in the same way as the commercial stuff.

I’ve got two lots of rubbing alcohol - 70% and 90% - I use the alcohol first, let that dry, and then use aloe vera (one doctor said moisturising is important because high content alcohol is extremely harsh on the skin and you could end up with bad eczema). The reason behind the use of one and then the other is you might not get the concentration right when mixing the two thus making the formula ineffective.

Probably easier to maintain the required alcohol content with 90% stuff but harder with the lower 70% concentration.

Yeah, I read that. Paracetamol is getting hard to come by, which is pissing me off because I currently have a bout of sciatica causing pretty bad pain down one leg. Paracetamol is way the best thing to alleviate it. I don't take it during the day, but at night it's absolutely essential, as lying down makes the pain worse, and I inevitably have to take a couple of tabs at about 3 am.

I literally feel your pain as I’m currently suffering from a herniated disc. The only difference being that Ibuprofen is better for it. I’d happily just use paracetamol but given that’s being ransacked as well, I’ve now got no pain management options.

Just pop to your local shop, everyone I’ve been to last few days has had stock

This is what I’ve just resorted to and I was able to buy some. Not in Sainsburys, Waitrose or Wilkinson though...nah. Their shelves were completely stripped of everything tissue paper related (toilet rolls, kitchen roll, face tissues, wet wipes and so on).

My local shop, though, must have had about ten packs of Andrex (of which I bought one because I’m not a word removed).

Sainsburys Mere Green had no bog roll at 9:50am. Tills didn't open until 10am!

Shop was rammed. Busiest I have seen it at that time on a Sunday.

I’m just about to attempt to buy toilet roll (because I am actually out of it) from my local Sainsburys/Waitrose.

I imagine, however, I’ll be washing my arse in the shower after every poo I do at home for today at least.

Yep, that's the issue with just rescheduling or getting some sort of voucher. You can't be sure that those airlines/travel companies are going to be around when you come to the rescheduled holiday dates or to try to use the voucher.

Excellent point. I think I’ll go down the refund route rather than attempt a reschedule.

Firstly, tough shit. Walk to 15 pharmacies like I did.

Secondly it's for work, so not exactly straight up personal use. Take thst moral crap elsewhere. It's to keep my field guys healthy to sanitize their equipment. Didn't change the look on her face mind.

You probably bought the ineffective shit that claims to kill 99.9% germs but fails to mention it doesn’t have a sufficient amount of alcohol content to be effective against the Coronavirus. A walk to 15 pharmacies well spent.

    March 2020

Yeah it’s starting to **** look that way.

  13. I’m not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but there’s a video in which Gabby rates all of the managers he’s played under.

There’s also an interview in which he talks about Rami Garde being absolutely **** useless as a manager and an arrogant word removed to boot.

Why did we bring this guy in? Did he do a good job elsewhere because he appears to be shite

He did well at Atletico, but it hardly took a genius with an exceptional and in-depth knowledge of European football to go around the rest of Spain knicking the best players from other teams.

It’d be like us going out and signing players like McNeil, Lundstram, Dubravka, and so on.

Said it in the other thread but not a single real hit from £150 million spent. It's really poor stuff.

    Agreed.
