I've got a feeling we're working on something big for the central midfield positon, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever we bring in we have to break our transfer record to do so. I think for sure we will do someting in that area, so it's going to be interesting to see exactly what happens.

We'll sign De Bruyne and then have him cover behind Matty as he bombs forward.

Yes but that’s what Bednarek has been struggling with.

Bednarek, or Southampton? That's the thing about CBs. They're often blamed for the shortcomings of the midfielders ahead of them. When you're asked to play a high line and the midfield allows the opposition to break through with one pass, there are very few CBs in the world who can make up for it. But that's why Van Dijk, Koulibaly, etc are paid what they're paid.

I don’t care if we sign superstars but I don’t want us to sign shit players like bednarek. Low block it is.

Low block? Southampton plays a remarkably high line in possession.

  4. While it's not a move I'd be excited about, think a lot of you are being excessively harsh on Bednarek. He's not a superstar, but he certainly isn't terrible. He's more well-rounded than Konsa as a player.

Bissosuma, Cucurella, Richarlison, Sarr, Zaha, Eze etc

Were those players linked with City, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc when they were signed? This very thread is talking about Liverpool being interested in Ramsey. We just sold Carney to Chelsea for £20 million despite him not having accomplished a damn thing.

This entire thread has devolved into nothing but people complaining we either aren't buying enough or selling enough. It's maddening.

Answer me this! Whats the point of having Lange and Rob Mackenzie(Guy who discovered Kante and Mahrez at Leicester) at the club if they never sign any gems, the kinda players Watford, Palace and Brighton are signing?

Why did we fail to sign Julian Álvarez
Why didnt we sign Cucurella last summer? Or sign Sergio Gomez this summer?

Because they all ended up signing for Man City and Chelsea. Brighton, Watford and Palace aren't signing them, either.

There has to be something dodgy going on with Forest. They’ve now broken our transfer record in their first season back, after spending £100m+ on other players beforehand.

If they don't stay up they'll be in a lot of trouble.

Really interested in why we weren't in for Nunes at that price.

I can only think we aren't looking to spend that sort of money.

Same as Guimaraes, we will not be able to get a midfielder of that level for that price. Wolves will be selling him for £75m inside two years.

Because we're owned by NSWE and not Jorge Mendes. Some clubs are owned by nation states, Wolves are owned by an agent. 😁

Can we get some **** moderation? Half the posts in here should be in the Gerrard thread.

I come in here for the fantasy of signing a whole new CL winning team not to hear the same old tiring bullshit from the same boring bunch of sods.

    This forum is becoming unreadable.

Well, if it's just straight information you're looking for, there's a whole internet out there. If you're looking to avoid boring sods discussing their opinions, a forum is probably the last place you should look for it, seeing as it's the foundation they're built upon. 😁

If you didn’t have to play to gerrards tactics/formation who would you bring in to sort out what’s going on?

    You have 50 million

I'd give the $50 million to Antonio Conte and then I'd ask him who he wants me to sign. 😁

As regards not getting any faster with age, I think that is something that can be applied to all players, including Ollie who is older than Werner

Of course, but the difference is that Ollie has more skills than just being fast. I'm not convinced Werner does. Nearly all his goals with Leipzig were on the counter when he'd beat a high line and run in behind it and get a one-on-one. When Werner isn't attacking on the counter he doesn't offer a whole hell of a lot.

Football isn’t all about stats. Some judge it with their eyes. I think Werner is a much better player to Watkins. He needs to be played properly and he needs a run of game imo. I watched him at RBL and we was unreal he was so good. The right team and the right manager and Werner will look world class. Ollie will never look world class although he is very good

It's not all about stats, no, but they help explain to us what our eyes are seeing at times. In his final season at RBL he scored 28 goals on an xG of 22.4, which suggested he was quite lucky, and those Chelsea numbers seem to show that the "luck" has run out. Also, from what I've deduced from my eyes, I don't think his strengths as a player fit into the style Gerrard has this team playing. For me, he's much better suited to the Bundesliga than the Premier League.

Finally, his greatest asset has always been his pace, and he's not going to get any faster than he currently is. He'll only get slower., so it's a no thanks from me.

  13. I find it funny how many people complain about Ollie missing his chances yet so many of the same people would take Werner. In Premier League play, Ollie has scored 25 goals on 28.2 xG for Villa while Werner has scored 10 goals on 19.5 xG in two seasons with Chelsea.

So frustrating we can't shift certain players, surely a ligue 1 team would take guilbert given his performances last year. El ghazi to an eredivisie club and nakamba would be decent for a newlu promoted prem team

I would guess players like Guilbert and El Ghazi can be moved, but not until late in the window when teams have been forced to give up their dreams of bigger prizes.
