Really, didn’t know that! Thought running gets more momentum hence why attackers run into the box and leap at corners higher than defenders standard leaping.  You learn something new every day!

No, they're jumping higher simply because they're usually better athletes.

Still really dont see how we can rely on Zinchenko who hardly plays in the Midfield to solve our Midfield issues. and we dont need him as LB cover for 35 million

To be fair, "positions" are fairly meaningless in City's system. He's a "left back" because traditionally, we need to label players as such. In use, he's more of a left-sided midfielder.

People think Bailey's stepfather is a bad off the field influence...  Just wait until you see Rabiot's mother!

Why sign a mediocre player when you can sign a mediocre player WITH AN OVERBEARING PARENT WHO THINKS THEY SHOULD BE RUNNING THE CLUB?

What type of striker do peeps want and think we’ll target ? I like the looks of Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG or Gonçalo Ramos from Benfica as a young up and coming options. Then you’ve got the not quite finished article in Jonathan David …

Considering the crosses Lucas Digne is capable of sending into the box, I'd like one who can use his head to redirect it into the net once in a while. 😁

A lot of good teams in the league deploy it like Arsenal, Leicester and West Ham, plus Gerrard's narrow 4-3-2-1 has hardly been a roaring success.

We spend too much time worrying about formation and not enough about players. No matter the formation, everybody ends up with five or six attacking and everybody dropping back in defense.

Jèsus is awful. Couldn't score in that city team and offers very little. If they pay more than £20m for him they've been had.

I wish we had somebody with that lack of production on our team.

Is Tyler adams worth a look at - versatile and reportedly available and if taking targets from Leipzig more realistic sadly than Laimer

Feel like I'm the only American soccer fan in existence not to think he's anything special. Limited range as a passer, and doesn't offer a whole lot else. Could live with him as a squad option, but wouldn't want him as somebody we rely on weekly.

He isnt wrong in fairness. We are probably paying double/treble his wages and dont have European football

As said before if Spain or France had the Premier League money and Ramsey and Mings got better deals to play to sign for Osasuna or Reims we would be bitter too

I'm not saying he's wrong, but he doesn't have to say it, either. He's trying to save face with the club's supporters, which is understandable. He could've simply said "Diego made the decision he felt best for him, and we respect it and wish him well."

  9. Story confirming Newcastle had agreed to a deal with Diego in January but Sevilla didn't want to sell him. Also Sevilla's director takes a shot at Villa!

Sevilla director Jose Maria Cruz de Andres has admitted that Diego Carlos wanted to join Newcastle back in January, but the La Liga side refused to let him go midway through the season.

Carlos was among Newcastle's top targets for the first transfer window under new ownership and personal terms were agreed with the centre-back, who wanted to make the move but was met with fierce resistance from Sevilla.

The Andalusian side stood firm and kept Carlos until this summer, when they then sold the 29-year-old to Aston Villa for around £26m - less than Newcastle were prepared to pay six months ago.

Speaking to Sport Witness, Cruz admitted Sevilla were not upset to have missed out on some extra money as the extra six months they got from Carlos were invaluable.

"We received a good offer in the winter market from Newcastle for Diego," Cruz said. “At that time, the player and the agent were very interested in the offer because it was a very good offer for them in terms of time of employment and salary for the player, and commission for the agent.

"We received a good offer from Newcastle, from a financial standpoint. But the problem was it was in the middle of the season and Carlos was very, very important at that time for us. We had no chance to replace Carlos [in January]. We had been suffering a lot during the season with many injuries, especially defenders.

“At the time, we were competing to win the league and had a chance to win the Europa League again, after being eliminated from the Champions League. The main reason to not accept the [Newcastle’s] offer was that it was not at the proper time.

"At the end of the season, we received a new offer from a different team. It was probably better than the first one for the player.

“He told us that we said it was not possible to sell him in the winter market, but we didn’t promise to sell him in the summer. We told them that when the season finishes, we will surely analyse offers. There was an offer and this is the reason for selling Diego Carlos, because we didn’t need to sell Carlos to balance the books.

“We wanted to keep Diego Carlos with us, but we understand that a player like Diego, 29, 30 years, it was a very good opportunity, probably not sporting wise, but in terms of money. We respect that because we understand that Diego has played very well for us.”

Yeah I'm starting to get it :D From what I can see though, by this metric Harry Kane is one of the worst finishers in Europe with a non penalty xG of 17.1 this season and 13 goals...

I think most people on here would take Kane up front.

This season is the first time Kane has finished below his xG since they started tracking it (publicly) in 2017-18. He's still scored 105 goals on 90.9 xG. He's pretty established as a well above-average striker from both the eyes and the numbers.

I may be reading this wrong but doesn’t it suggest he wasn’t getting enough chances last season rather than missing chances ?

No, it means he overperformed expectations based on the chances he had the last two seasons, and this year he performed to what was expected of the chances he got. Yes, it would help if he had more chances, but 25 goals on 16.7 xG is a wild overperformance that very few players in the world can maintain, if any.

One thing with Ings is it seems like he's underachieving, but he might just have reverted to the mean, because his last couple of seasons with Soton some of the goals he was knocking in were more like quarter chances than half chances, like a score one in ten/15 of those but he was knocking in every one. That was never going to continue

    Very much this.

    2019-20: 25 goals on 16.7 xG
    2020-21: 13 goals on 8.3 xG
    2021-22: 7 goals on 7.3 xG

    We bought high.

  13. Let's look at this logically. Gabriel Jesus has won trophies at Man City and has played for the Champions League. Now he's looking to leave because his place in the team is unsettled with Haaland coming in. He had long been connected to Arsenal until Arsenal missed out on the top four.

He's been connected to Real Madrid, etc.

And we're supposed to believe he's going to choose Aston Villa to compete for a spot in the Europa League? I know we're desperate for something tangible but let's try to use our brains, lads. 😂

He is the Egyptian Brett Holman.  A headless chicken who didn't belong in the Prem.  We paid less for El Ghazi and he contributed far more to Villa during the same time period than Trez ever did.

And? What does Anwar El Ghazi have to do with Trezeguet? £8.75 million for a player is nothing. If you didn't like him, fine, but to call him a waste while pretending anybody thought he would be Mo Salah is idiotic.
