  1. i think one of the hardest tasks for lambert will be the moral, we have been taking quite a few punches the last couple of seasons. And it might be worth noting that norwich went up a league each season, they would have been walking on clouds, i think the mindset of the players have alot of impact on how they play.
  2. we just got henke in, im sure he will have some play in this, maybe it was a matter of waiting for him and hearing what he had to say? sure there will be some restrictions on and im not saying there are no options at all out there, economical restraints arent something new for us. But there is alot of things that needs to click than just finding the right player. He might have inquired into a couple and they simply might not want to live in birmingham? the players lamber might have lined up will need to be replaced by the other club, they arent going to sell if they have no one to take their place. what im trying to get at is that economics is just one bit that needs to fit.
  3. well, if there are no players that doesnt suit his play style, or the ones that do are out of our price range, then what? just buy random player for the fun of it? Im sure theres a underlying plan, which we dont know about. I personally think the spending will come either later this window or in the next, i rather see them buying smartly and spending money where its needed, rather than blowing it just to have a higher net spend than a previous owner.
  4. some of the comments on here are slightly... well i dont really have a good word for it hehe. some people complaining bids werent made for a certain player, others saying were DOOMED and so on. Lambert is rebuilding the squad, when a squad needs a overhaul like ours its not going to be done in one window, we are not working with an unlimited budget or a budget as high as other clubs thats just something we have to accept. Lambert will want to form the squad in a way which suits his tactics, tactics we dont really know much about, so how can we sit here and say its outrageous he hasnt signed or made bids for certain players? It will take time, it will be a rocky ride this season no doubt, but thats footie for you. Next season well have a better understanding on who will be able to do what on the pitch and more players can be brought in where they are needed. Buying lots of players now could just end up meaning we will end up with more beyes and in 2 - 3 season we will be in the same possition as we are now. We have to learn from our misstakes and build a squad a bit more carefully this time. I for one will enjoy this season alot more than the last two, even if we get smashed in a couple of games, which we will. (even if i am slightly worried about certain aspects hehe)
  5. And this again. Who has seen Guidetti play and when (apart from highlights)? What makes him so wanted on here from first hand experience? Add to that, the fact that he is injured and nobody really knows when he will certainly return. Sorry, but if we sign anybody atm, I want it to be somebody who can contribute right away. ive seen him play quite a few times, both in international games as well as in the dutch league. Beeing swedish ive tried to follow him as good as i can, he gets quite a bit of coverage in the media. Id have him over in a heart beat. Hes quick, good on the ball and got a mean shot on him, hes young, hungry and he has lots of potential. Its either signing someone like him or forking out alot more money on a "proven" player, under our circumstances id pick him, especially if our other options would be carrol etc. im no doctor, but an inflamation due to food poisoning cant hang around for that long surley? we got players we can rely on for a while atleast. In my eyes hes a good option. When the injury is gone and hes normal, i would let him walk straight into our 11 he does look a bit like a prat with his hand-heart goal celebration though hehe
  6. johnson has not been given the same chance/playtime as downing or zog. I think he has the potential to be better than both, and in some cases thats what you have to go for. I think hed be a good signing, but not at any price or salary.
  7. must... stay.... possitive... no more injuries now though, im just waiting to hear about bent breaking a leg falling out of his bed or something. I vote for padded cells for all villa players, they should only be let out during game time.
  8. On the whole - if you don't hear anything happening - its because nothing is.............I can't remember the last time a signing was announced a complete surprise . Actually, a lot of our signings have comes as a relative surprise. No one had even mentioned KEA for example until suddenly a Dutch paper said he was joining us. Within about 4 days he'd signed. Hearing about a player and him signing 4 days later is hardly a surprise signing. in football terms i probably say it is.. alot of transfers you hear about weeks before hand, people talking openly in the press "flirting" with players etc. I wouldnt be supprised if lambert has inquired and had offers refused for players. Deals that never reached the press nor us.
  9. i dont think theres a sell to buy thing going on. i dont think were waiting to get rid off the deadweight before bringing new players in I do however think that they are looking for some suitable players, and i do belive there are dealings going on that doesnt get leaked. There is some panicing going on here due to the silence, doesnt nessecarily mean they arent doing anything. I could be wrong though, wouldnt be the first time! Id want a striker (not fing carrol) and a defensive minded player or two.
  10. good stuff! i think i might have wet my pants a bit..
  11. hopefullt warnock and hutton will go before that though. im thinking in a couple of days would be nice..
  12. out of curiousity, where does this number come from? The team and the accounts. kewl, is there anywhere us mere mortals can have a look at the accounts? or is it something youve added up your self? not trying to disprove youre figures just geniunily interested hehe..
  13. thats true, theres been some compensation packages that has gone out which could have been avoided. just goes to show running a business and a football club is verry different. i think theres a long way to go before we end up as Rangers did and lerner selling the browns could be a sign he wants to get out of sports completely and it could be for a million different reasons. whos to say theres not going to be more action though? there was a big IF in lamberts interview which alot of people seem to have ignored, its easy to always expect the worst. Now with the signs of makoun going there will hopefully be a bit more space in the wages, and if we can get rid of hutton and warnock even more so.
  14. thats a shame... i actually thought he could be pretty good here... hopefully it will mean some cleared up wages atleast
  15. A Billionaire who has just sold one of his fathers companies for another Billion dollars..... Just saying. given its not him whos made all the money, but you dont get rich by spending wrecklessly and as much as we might want to belive that aston villa should be as important to him as it is to some of us here, it might not be. manage expectations. i think well see the proper investment when its suitable.
  16. if that would have been done from the start this thread would have been 2 pages long.. tops
  17. im staying causiusly(sp?) optimistic! i dont think it would be feasible to build a whole new squad at once anyways, there has to be some part of the team which has played together before that "knows" each other. One or two more players is enough for me i think, and should be enough for a resonable finish with the outlook of signing some more maybe in january or in the next summer window, when the squad has been properly tried out under pressure. Its a big difference trying players out in pre season compared to how they will perform during the season
  18. He would if Ellis Short let him. Knowing MON he won't be miles off your both probably right hehe. i wonder how the sunderland fans are taking it...
  19. i doubt fletcher will be on the same salary as RVP though
  20. to answer my own question, warnock will be here until next summer if we cant find anyone to take him off our hands.. surley someone must want him!?
  21. this! its a speculation thread, 99% of people have no idea whats going on at VP, including the people who are actual ITK's. Things can change, rumours can get twisted as they get passed from person to person. What people seem to forget is that this is a speculation thread, it gets incredibly tedious seeing posts like "omg twitter is pants!" "how do you know what our budget is?!". One should assume that everything in here is posted as a speculation not hard facts, having to state this everytime one makes a post would just take up space, time and would get tedious. I rather discuss roumors than nothing at all. on another note, does anyone know how much time is left on warnocks contract?
  22. people see what they want to see, in the same way everyone ignored the IF in lamberts interview a couple of pages back and went into instant panic mode. personally i think we will see a couple of more arrivals before the end of the window, maybe not of the size we have been hoping, but this was always going to be a transitional period. Hopefully the players we have and will get over the summer will keep us safe until the next window.
  23. hes pretty good, id take him any day over carrol or any of the other strikers weve been linked with at the moment. He deffinetly has talent, incredibly hungry and i can see him getting alot better in the next couple of years. sure its always gonna be a bit of a gamble but our current economical state doesnt allow us to buy someone whos already a proven PL player, even if we/lambert want us too. Been watching him in international games and in a few of the dutch games, i personally like his style.
