  1. Just home from a sodden Villa Park

Delighted with the point and you cannot fault the effort levels, thought they all played well including KEA who had his best game in a villa shirt. My MOM goes to Stevens who played out of his skin.

Can't believe the disrespect the arse fans showed to Wenger .

    Troll status confirmed.

KEA's best performance in a villa shirt? He was our worst player by a country mile today in an otherwise really good performance. You honestly know very little about football. Its embarrassing quite frankly.

  2. 'held on against Arsenal?'

Apart from the last 5 minutes I thought we were the better team throughout. Crackin' performance from the young lads.

Lot of positives to take from today and I also thought it was a good game. It was 0-0 but still a very decent game in the conditions.

Really impressed with Bannan and Westwood in the middle. Holman also looked superb when he came on just in front.

MOTM has to go to Gabby though today. On sheer effort alone he was fantastic. He lacked that final bit of quality at times but was brilliant throughout I thought.

Bring on the next two games and hopefully we can take the performances from Utd and Arsenal in to them. Our goal this season needs to be survive and If we can, there is a lot to be positive about for the future.

Lets just get behind Lambert and the boys.

    UTV.

  3. Amazing. gareth provides evidence to a point he's made, and CI (aka the biggest troll on VillaTalk) dismisses it because it's been googled.

CI, you're a wind up. I'd count yourself lucky you haven't been banned by now.

Cheers for quoting that, Gareth, it would have gone unnoticed for me if you hadn't :D

Cheers from me aswell. I enjoyed that. It seems I'm not the only one who has CI blocked?!

  4. We need to prioritize in January. A central midfielder is key, a big nasty bastard would be ideal to give us a bit more bite. I also feel we need a winger with excellent delivery. I actually quite like Gabby down the left but down the right we are weak. Holman, N'Zogbia and Weimann are all very average.

Now that we have Benteke, we could use a genuine winger to put decent balls into the box for the big man to get his head on. Benteke has already scored some good goals for Belgium from excellent crosses. We could use that.

We need 2/3 players for sure. Without them, we could be playing championship football next year.

  5. We cannot play Bent and Benteke together in the same team, simply because our midfield is not strong enough.

Right now I believe we have to play with 3 central midfielders, one a little more advanced (Ireland) simply because we are so poor in that area.

Benteke looks good though, we need some good wingers to provide him with good service. Would love Milner, Young and Downing back here.

    Sigh.

  6. Lol, writing players off after 9 games.

KEA is actually a decent player IMO and that will show if we improve the players around him in midfield.

Is he another one of those Villa players that only becomes good with good players around him?

Why cant we just have a 'Good' player?

All these bloody excuses we make for players is embarrassing. I know its nice to be positive but unfortunately KEA has had a poor start to his Villa career. He's no spring chicken either. We need better.

As for Benteke, hope he continues in the same fashion. Good performance from the lad against Norwich.

  7. An Awful player, should be nowhere near the starting XI. I like Marc though and hope he does well in the Future. He just needs to make that step down to the Championship and I'm sure he will have a long and solid career.

Worst comes to worst, we get 1/2m for him and the academy has done its job.

Cannot afford to have him in the team at the moment though. Brings absolutely nothing.

  8. Guzan - 10

    Bennett - 3

    Vlaar - 6

    Herd - 7

    Lowton - 6

    Albrighton - 3

    Delph - 3

    KEA - 3

    Holman - 4

    Agbonlahor - 3

    Benteke - 7

Terrible performance from a terrible team.

We desperately need to buy a whole new midfield in January otherwise we are in serious trouble this year. Delph and Albrighton are Championship players at best.

Oh and I hate Phil Dowd as much as the next person but he wasn't the reason we were shit today. Norwich could arguably have had two penalties and Chris Herd was lucky to be on the pitch at the end.

  9. He will be off to a bigger club in a couple of years.

What are you basing this on? The 3/4 sitters he's missed for us already? People laughing at him at training? The sky commentators slating him? His all round poor performances? Will Bannan and Herd be off to big clubs too?

  10. Yet another average player unfortunately. Haven't been impressed with him at all. Probably does just enough to start in our midfield but that is more of a reflection on our strength in that area rather than the player himself.

He seems to bring energy at least and that's something we need. Apart from that though, there is not much to his game.

  11. He is probably our best midfielder. He isn't great by any means but far better than Delph, Westwood, KEA and Bannan.

He definately doesn't do enough to justify his 60/70k a week wages but at the end of the day, if he's fit, he should play. We have a piss poor midfield.

  12. What do people expect? Honestly?

We are a very average international team with some very ordinary players. In a group we are very likely to qualify from, going to Poland and getting a point in difficult circumstances is decent IMO.

We aren't Brazil, Germany or Spain, we are England and we are average. Why do people act surprised when players like Carrick, Cleverly etc. play poorly? These players wouldn't even make the Spain reserve team's bench.

Its time for people to wake up and get real in England. We have no divine right to go to Poland and outplay them with the team we have. It's a good point tonight and it puts us in a good position for the remaining games in the group.

  13. Sorry if this has already been discussed but just found this online and it made my blood boil...

Rangers chief executive Charles Green predicts European overhaul

Chief executive Charles Green believes Rangers will be involved in the formation of a new European league.

Green's consortium relaunched the Ibrox club after the former incarnation could not be saved from liquidation.

“I'm convinced it will happen because otherwise where will the revenues for the top come from”

Charles Green on a European league

Rangers currently play in Scottish Football League Division Three.

"There will be a European league because big teams can't keep subsidising small teams for the next 10 years because they will go stale," said Green.

"Arsenal don't want to play Southampton or Swansea, but ask them if they want to play Celtic or Rangers. It's what the fans want to see.

"Fans across the world want to see Manchester United play Barcelona, not just once every few years but every season."

Green is convinced Rangers would be part of any new European league.

"If there are two divisions of 18 clubs, how could Rangers not be a part of that?" he asked. "I'm convinced it will happen because otherwise where will the revenues for the top come from? These days Arsenal are struggling to sell out their game against West Ham."

Last month, BBC Scotland revealed Scottish clubs, including Rangers, were to discuss the possibility of being part of a new European regional league set-up.

Uefa is believed to be open to change as it grows increasingly concerned by the polarisation between the top clubs and top leagues.

Green added: "How can Manchester United's revenues be £320m and Aston Villa, who are completely useless, get £250m?

"What Manchester United put into world football is massive, but what they take out of it is a joke and they won't put up with that for much longer."

  14. Scored tonight for Belgium....

Anyone watching the game? What was the goal like?

I've watched the whole match. His goal has masked a somewhat poor performance in my opinion. More often than not he has given the ball away and has won very few headers. The most worrying aspect of his game for me is his work rate. Sometimes he seems to just amble around the pitch.

I'm all for giving him a chance but he needs to use his physical stature a lot more and certainly win more headers. He is 21 so will get better I'm sure but the only way he will do this is if he works harder to create chances for others.
