Good age, solid player, low fee, doesn't sound too bad.

I'm fed up of hearing things like this - not a dig at you.

We need players to come in and improve the starting XI, not players who we've got on a 'low fee' who will only fill in when needed.

  2. I’ve always thought Buendia was overrated on here tbh. I think he definitely has a place in the squad but he’s too slow and ponderous on the ball to be a top player. He loses the ball way too much to play in a midfield three and I don’t think he has the pace to play out wide.

I like him and want him to be great but he’s really nothing that special unfortunately.

I’m beginning to think Buendia isn’t all that. Watkins I used to enjoy watching but I think he has also either regressed, or been found out and so is easily dealt with by defenders. Ings is useful for a side that can play the ball into the opponents box - something we can’t do.

Buendia is massively overhyped by Villa fans. He’s a decent enough player but he’s miles away from someone like Odegaard. He gives the ball away far too much to play as a 10 and isn’t quick enough out wide.

12 points behind Arsenal after 5 games. How scary is that?

There was a time we were boasting about beating them to the signing of Buendia. How things change.

We’re going to be right amongst it this season unless things change. Don’t get me wrong, the absolute first thing the board need to do to change this is to sack Gerrard but I won’t lie to you, some of the performances from almost all of our players should concern people.

I too think we have a squad that should finish somewhere between 10th - 15th but right now, some of our players look truly, truly awful.

I really hope a lot of this is down to Gerrard because if it isn’t, this thread is going to be an ever present this season.

  5. I’ve got to the point where I can’t even be bothered to criticise individuals. They’ve all been rubbish.

At some point, we need to just accept that it’s HOPEFULLY Gerrard and the system that is the problem. I think it is, but these players do make me nervous how shit they are.

Would take no transfers for the next two windows if we got Pochettino.

Isn't it mad. How a manager would just instantly make you feel better and less worried with transfers.

With Gerrard, I feel we're all scrambling around and desperate for transfers mainly because we know he's a shit manager and we need better players to somehow fit his daft system and to make it work.

If we had someone like Poch, or even Potter, I think we'd be a lot happier with what we have, safe in the knowledge they'd get much more from them. Hey, who knows, they might even tell players they can venture into the middle of the pitch if they want.

    Our manager sucks.

Wonder if he'll go with his 'trusted' front six.

    Kamara - McGinn - Ramsey

    Coutinho

    Ings - Watkins

    🙄

Honestly, just reading that makes me feel a little ill.

As if any manager, in the world, anywhere, at any time, ever, would think that was the best use of the players we have.

Just looking at it makes me want to KO a cardboard cut out of old Slippy G.

  8. Right now, he’s our second best central midfielder in an area we are very poor in if we’re honest.

Selling him would be one step closer to relegation.

This is coming from someone who doesn’t particularly rate Luiz all that highly.

  9. In order to improve our league position from last year, I thought we needed at least a CB, two CM’s and an ST in this window. The Carlos injury is a cruel blow, but it does look increasingly like we’re going to end up with Kamara being the only addition to the starting XI from last year.

The club is either sleepwalking into a bit of bother or they’re aware of it but just haven’t been able to get deals over the line due to financial constraints. Either way, with the way other clubs have strengthened this Summer, over a 38 game season, I can’t see us improving on 14th and dare I say it, we may be in for a relegation fight.

It’s been a very poor 6-12 months for the club on the pitch if I’m honest. Our transfer policy is a mess.

This will be a classic “well, we tried” situation but Gerrard will come out with some wank comment about how the players need to step up because him and his staff have prepared them enough now and it’s up to them to perform.

This is exactly what will happen.

Im absolutely flabbergasted we haven’t signed another central midfielder.

To be honest, a lot of it is probably down to the fact our squad is bloated and we as a club have absolutely no idea when the time is right to sell players. Often, we wait til the end of their contract or wait for them to be sidelined for an extended period of time before we look to move them on. That obviously means they either leave on a free, on loan, for a very small price or not at all.

For all the good that has happened over the last few years, I’d actually argue we’ve been fairly poorly run when it comes to the footballing side of things, especially given the money spent. I know that’s something a lot of people don’t like to hear but we’re a mess right now and that is inexcusable given the investment in the playing squad.

  11. While we're on the topic of Craig Dawson, he's actually a very competent player. Not sure he improves us, but I bet he's as good, if not better than Konsa and Chambers.

It's uninspiring and boring, but he's had a very good career actually.
